in a time before things like radios and record players, every time you heard music was because there was somebody in the room with you playing an instrument. and many, many, many social events involved dancing, which requires music. so, if you're planning any kind of gathering in the american south or appalachia, you need to find a fiddler. and the fiddler's job is to play music that everybody knows and likes and can dance to.

the mistake The Devil makes in his bet with Johnny is that he misinterprets the contest as being about technical ability, so he has this big flashy song. he plays fast and impressively with a band of demons playing unfamiliar instruments in unfamiliar rhythms. he's definitely more skilled at playing than Johnny, and thinks he has it in the bag.

Nah, I mean IDK who else could have written it? Perhaps the Society wasn’t completely founded yet, but Fiddleford was already beginning some things on it. I mean, it is a weird continuity error… perhaps not “created” but in the works? It’s a weird conundrum that I’m still working out because Ford CLEARLY ran into the blind eye or a blind eye member, but wasn’t a part of it himself (I never guessed  he was part of the Blind Eye). There’s also the fact that he knew what Fid’s memory wipe gun was… definitely not part of the actual society, but certainly prepared himself against it (metal plate, anyone?).

Yeah that’s what I figured he meant. Not that the society was founded when Ford was in the portal, but that I was like “in the works” and not the society it was when Dips and Mabs found it.
