the thing that really charms me about armand getting a bunch of modern kitchen appliances and just putting random shit through them in queen of the damned is that those chapters are from daniel's point of view. armand has a human companion. a human companion with whom he seems to spend approximately every waking moment. he has a perfectly valid reason to learn to cook. he could cook for his beloved pet amateur journalist who eats human food. like. you know what's a fun thing to put in a toaster oven? toast. and then daniel has some toast to eat. but no. dead rat.

The most basic, intractable fact about mental illnesses is that you simply cannot willpower your way out of them. The only exceptions to this rule are the ones I have, which continue to disable me due to lack of determination and other grave personal flaws

btw you will miss this in 5 or 10 years. memory will smooth these circumstances down like a river stone, and you will find yourself longing for a shade of light or a moment of this particular innocence. you don't know about what happens next, and one day that will be the most alluring thing of all. don't leave it all for nostalgia. have a nice night now, whatever night it happens to be.
