Sorry I haven’t posted in a while!! I’ve been going crazy!!! I severely overestimated how much free time I’d have working two jobs rn. Most days I open at petsm@rt and then have a 45 minute break before I go in to the restaurant to close and I get home at like 10:30 just to wake up at 6:30 the next morning and do it all again. It’s okay, I’m making money which is what I need, and also this is exactly what I signed up for.

It’s kind of nice though because I get to get out of the house more and I talk to people other than my roommates and my cat.

I cried tonight AND last night at the restaurant. Last night I cried because middle aged men (men in general) love to do this thing where they think they’re being funny but they’re just mean. Let me set the scene for you:

I see that I’ve been sat(four middle aged men), I’m excited bc I genuinely like my job and enjoy being in a customer facing role. I walk up to greet them, and they all look at me like my face is melting off before I can even say anything. I’m obviously nervous because men in general are kind of scary but men who look like they’re mad at you are especially scary. I give my little introduction which is

“Hi! How is everyone doing tonight? My name is Elle, I’ll be taking care of you today. Just to let you know, I am super new at this BUT that just means everything is fresh in my mind and it’s all going to be perfect for you tonight.”

And then one of the guys looks at me and says “so that means if you pay attention you won’t fuck anything up for us?”

And I think it was just a combo of being nervous already, being caught off guard, his tone of voice which was NOT joking at all and was actually very mean, and that he cursed (not a big deal but I wasn’t expecting it at all)

So I just stood there and stared at him while my eyes filled up with tears and he started laughing and was like “I’m just joking” and I started like HYSTERICALLY crying in front of them (uncomfortable for all parties) and then I walked away. I cried in the server closet for a second and went back out to take their drink orders, but started crying again when I walked up because I didn’t take long enough to calm down.

Obv I still served them and I let my manager know what happened just in case she wanted to go check in with them or maybe comp something or give a discount because I was SUPER unprofessional with all of the crying but she didn’t really care and said to just take a breather and let her know if I needed a break before I was sat again. They tipped well and told me I did a good job, but didn’t apologize at all.

I know I could’ve totally asked someone else to take the table for me, but I feel like since I’m still new it was a good thing for me to continue to serve them so that my coworkers and my managers know that I can do hard things and that they can trust me to figure things out.

I cried today because I fell down the stairs at work while carrying 40 rolls of silverware, effectively unrolling most of them, and I rolled my ankle really badly. Putting my silverware away was the last thing I had to do before I went home, and it was just my final straw(today was awful) and i just sat on the floor and cried for a second.

Do you guys ever get nostalgic for a time that you never lived through?
