Tagging guide for followers who aren't into RPF:

Generally, I'll tag with names only (I've always been more of a twitter person till very recently and tumblr conventions are a bit of a mindfuck for me) but if its a shippy post I'll tag a ship name if there is one because I don't like putting them in the name tags, or name/name if it's a rare pair without one. If its a fic post, I'll also add #f1 rpf or #indycar rpf, hockey rpf, football rpf etc

There are several ONG-funded ships currently operating in the central Mediterranean Sea with the specific intent of saving migrants from what has been for years one of the deadliest migration routes in the world. Here is partial list:

Geo Barents (Médecins Sans Frontières)

Ocean Viking (SOS Méditerranée)

Aurora, Sea Watch 3 and Sea Watch 5 (Sea Watch)

Life Support (Emergency)

Open Arms and other ships (Open Arms)

Another important resource for migrants in distress at sea is the hotline AlarmPhone.

Since 2016 these rescue missions have become more and more onerous to fund as EU countries have progressively strengthened the Frontex program while at the same time criminalizing ONG-led search and rescue operations. (Italy has been at the forefront of this trend, and a shipwreck on the coast of Calabria in late February this year only managed to strengthen the resolve of the current government to make it even more complex for ONGs to try and rescue migrants.) So while it definitely won't solve the root issue, donating to these NGOs still has a tangible effect.

Realizing you can like people aesthetically without it dictating your sexuality is so liberating tbh. Like, one can adore, even be obsessed with, the looks of someone of the same sex and still be straight. One can find people beautiful, and handsome, and fascinating, and still be asexual. I can like the physical appearance of someone of the opposite sex and still be gay. Finding physical beauty in people doesn’t equal to being physically, or sexually, or romantically attracted to them. Human beauty isn’t inherently sexual. Just wanted to put it out there.

DF: Dix and I… How do I put it? We weren't so… it wasn't talked about really, but my relationship with Scott as a teammate is as good as any I ever had. And to me, that didn't change whether he beat me or I beat him. I knew any day he could beat me and my job was to go out and beat him. But as far as being an open book and the guys I work with, ours was as good as any relationship I've had.

As far as a friend goes, I'll tell you this. When things were really, really bad, when I was really struggling with my head after Houston, he would come and visit me every day and just sit with me. I didn't want to be around a lot of people because I was struggling with all kinds of things. But he would just sit with me and talk to me. No matter what was going on. If his championship fight was coming up, whether he was building his new house, he had Emma and the two girls to look after, he was doing all this stuff and he would come and sit with me for hours. (Dario chokes up a bit before continuing) And then right before the championship, before he went on the grid, he called just to check that I was all right. He told me not to panic because he had a plan to go out and win the title, which made me laugh and raised my spirits. Him and – of the guys that are still running, TK and Dixie, are two, not even – forget teammates here – but two of my best pals. Amazing people.

MP: You don't hear a lot about selflessness in our sport. Hard not to love Dixie for being there when it mattered the most.

DF: That's him, man. He's that type of person.
