tldr: RIP Carrie Fisher. (Came for Leia, stayed for Carrie.) I haven’t been on here in awhile, but after the news of Carrie’s passing I knew my place was here. No one says goodbye as well as the wonderful people of tumblr. Seeing everyone else’s posts made me want to say a few words. I want to start by saying that yesterday, when I opened my phone to see the news, I was utterly shocked. When I heard of Carrie’s ailments I did some research. I knew her mother Debbie was alive and well, but I wanted to know how old Eddie Fisher was when he passed. When I learned that he had died at the old age of 82 I was sure Carrie's good genes would help her pull through. My assurance seemed to be confirmed when her mother, Debbie reported that Carrie was in stable condition. Yet after all of that 2016 threw one last heart wrenching blow and took our beloved Carrie Fisher away from us. Carrie Fisher meant quite a bit to me. As for others, her portrayal of Princess Leia Organa helped to show me that women can be strong leaders, fierce fighters, and invaluable friends. However, this was just my first trip abroad the Carrie Fisher Crazy Train. Years after I first saw Star Wars I was watching (my favorite late night talk show) "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson". The guest that evening was Carrie. She blew me away with her humor and her charisma! As the two went back and forth (the way you would only see on Craig's show) the topic of her book "Wishful Drinking" came up. I had heard of the book before, but it hadn't registered in my mind that it was Carrie's autobiography. Given my love of Star Wars and the wit Carrie displayed in the interview I decided I needed to read it. Now, I'm a slow reader and because of this I get discouraged by a big book. That's why I was delighted to find out that Carrie herself had recorded an audio version of her memoirs. I bought it on Audible, and I maintain that it may have been one of the best purchases I've ever made. Her wit is only matched by her honesty and her humility. From her upbringing to her relationships and her life with manic depression/bipolar disorder this book was truly a tell all. Even though she was Hollywood royalty she wrote of such relatable events and feelings. From that moment on I was not only a Star Wars fan, but also a huge Carrie Fisher fan. I am heart broken by her passing. I feel for her mother, daughter, sister, friends, fans, and Gary the dog. Rest well dearest Carrie. And if you don't mind my saying: May the Force be with you, always.

Four days is a lot of time, so this year I’m gonna take it slow rather than stressing out about seeing everything. I’m planning on get some stuff done today before the weekend crowd, though. I hope to see some great cosplayers :)
