rcg has fallen into the trap of writing a gay man with only explicitly gay & stereotypical traits. do i think mac ‘acting more gay’ is bad?? absolutely not! viewers can assume that his personality switch has something to do with the fact that he had to act straight for 40 years, and that these mannerisms are more reflective of who he really is. but we know that mac had genuine, impassioned interests (as ridiculous as they were) before coming out. it’s lazy writing to completely ignore his first 11/12 seasons of development. where is project badass. where is him being as much of a little shit as dennis. the writers have apparently also forgotten that mac was bossy as fuck for the majority of the show. yes, he’s always wanted dennis’ approval, but he’s somehow become almost submissive to the rest of the gang in these recent seasons and it feels really OOC. i think part of the reason his complete personality overhaul seems so drastic is also bc rob looks incredibly different than he used to, but that should be irrelevant. & i think the erasure of badass mac to apparently make room for him being gay is part of why a lot of sunny tumblr debates over whether he is actually good lgbt rep ://

Ironically Mac was way better gay rep when he was still closeted because he had a personality and motivation and interests and agency. It’s painfully clear once they ended that story they had no idea where to take him and just took the most one-dimensional, laziest, most stereotypical route possible.

This is the first fic I’ve written in years and it’s shamefully self-indulgent angsty purple prose but I’m proud of it.

the way charlie just fuckin’ pops up in that last gif like a wind-up toy—more physical comedy from the peak.

Bonus points for Mac joining in just cause Dennis is doing it + Frank just nodding cause he’s used to watching them do this growing up.
