The apology I deserve.
The way I broke up with you was fucked up and unfair. I didnβt want to continue to be in a relationship with you, but I should not have let the urgency of that emotion convince me you didnβt deserve kindness and respect. I know things could have gone better if I hadnβt rushed to get out, and instead talked to you like a person about what I wanted.
I convinced myself you were unreasonable when I put you in a situation where you felt discarded and taken for granted. But you have shown in our relationship and so many others that you can move through anger with compassion and practicality. I know this about you because I have seen you work during our entire time together to be that kind of person.
I also know that I would have come out of the relationship in a better position if I had taken the time to end things with care. Iβm aware how my urgency sabotaged me. Thank you for being reliable even when I hurt you. That was something you didnβt owe me, but I know you. You would not try to ruin my life out of anger. It wasnβt fair how I referred to your integrity as something unmeetable. After everything it was that integrity that came through for me one last time.
I canβt imagine how much my actions have hurt you. I can try, but I know the scope of damage is wider than I could ever understand. I know you must have felt betrayed that we started this relationship with a dynamic of complete devotion from you, one I willingly encouraged, only for me to feel stifled and restless.
I didnβt leave you for her. I left you because I wanted out of the relationship, but I am sure it must have felt like I left you for her. The timing of everything was perfectly horrible, my college fund included.
I canβt say that security of having that money didnβt reassure me in my decision to leave. I had figured you would be fine since you had the money you saved. You are also very financially responsible. But I donβt imagine you felt very safe with my sudden departure. Iβm sorry for that too. I know how scared you are of becoming homeless again.
I shouldnβt have texted people telling them you sent me trash. I know this. I see how that makes my character look after everything. I really did believe you had planned something because you sounded so angry.
But I saw other people burn you and you didnβt retaliate, and I think I was convincing myself further. I wanted you to have sent me trash, I wanted a reason to say you were horrible and that what I was doing was justified.
But it wasnβt.
I know repair is not possible. Iβm not looking to be in your life. But I know that you deserve, at the very least, an apology.
