“okay, well if you’re the chosen host to an evil cosmic being, then yeah -- better to have your wits about you...” as soon as the words left her mouth, horrific realization struck her features “---and I could not sound like a bigger asshole right now, I am so sorry. I didn't mean it like that, honestly -- I’m not judging. I swear.”

“funny, usually i’m the one that feels that way. “i take it the brain’s doing okay now though, right?”

“hey, me yesterday, you tomorrow. always one of us.” she mused. “thanks though?” she supposed a thanks was in order. 

“look, i’m not saying i wanna throw my whole brain out. it was just nice living without a choice few memories.” she explained. “you don’t get that at all?”

“look, I’m not saying I wanted it to stay that way forever, I’m just saying it was a nice vacation from the regularly scheduled bullshit.” a beat “--who’s pietro?”

“yeah...” a beat -- how did she respond to that? “--no offense but it just happened to me the one time.” clearly she was going through something and dani definitely wasn’t the one that could empathize on the same level. “sounds like it sucks though?”

“i mean, yeah -- but it was still a nice break.” she said. like sleeping, but her eyes were open. funny since all she could do at the time was bitch about having no memories. “so, uh-- is that your thing, showing up and instilling wisdom on strangers?”

“well that’s because guthrie’s butt isn’t nearly as cute as mine.” dani said. the smirk lingered in her eyes as she looked at her before she shrugged a little. “i can’t say it was fun..but...i dunno, hard to be sad when the bad stuff isn’t there to be sad about, you know?”

“if we’re being honest living without memories was kind of freeing--infuriating, but freeing. don’t get me wrong, i’m glad i’m...me again, it was just...less complicated.”
