“I’m going to keep apologizing.” The offending doorknob was back in Lorna’s hand. “But you don’t need to lie. It’s okay.”

Crystal had a soft spot for Alex; both were affiliated romantically with the Monarcy of M. “Do you need ice?”

“Jesus. I’ve been looking for you everywhere.” Regan stomped towards him with heavy boots. “I’m happy you’re off the Hellions. Truly. I bet you didn’t think you’d get stuck a parole officer.”

“I suppose I picked the wrong time to be murdered. I’m glad reality didn’t crumble in my absence.”

“Look, I don’t know who you’re looking for, but it’s not me.” Harry insisted slowly, the worry evident on his face as he slowly scanned his surroundings, obviously very confused.

“You can tell people I scratched you. It was an accident. Besides, it’s not that embarrassing. I’m formidable.” 

“Bet you wish you could phase, huh?”

“You look like a cadet who tried to smack someone’s ass.”

“I’ve been punched in the face before. Who did you make angry?”

“And I am from Jersey.” 

“Was it a fist shaped doorknob?”

“A doorknob?” Everett couldn’t help the small chuckle of disbelief as he shook his head. “No way. Not buyin’ it.”

“Are you alright? I don’t wanna freak you out, but it looks pretty gnarly.”

“Dude your face is fucked up. Did you even ice it?”

for good reason, maybe. madelyne understood where she went wrong. she could look at her life and see where she had hurt people. her mind oscillated between remorse and mania; the goblin in her relished in it but the lost little clone mourned what she never would have. thank god she had someone who remained naively loyal. sitting on alex’s bed with her legs tucked up against her chest, madelyne rested her head on her knees.

“thanks for letting me hide. the last thing i want right now is to see scott or jean.”

alex nodded, peering out the window of his bedroom for a brief moment before shutting the curtain and turning back to face madelyne. leaning against his armoire, his posture was tense and he refused to look at the woman in front of him for more than a few seconds.

sure, she’d been granted a fresh start - but if alex knew any better, that fresh start would come with a hell of a lot of red tape, and leave madelyne on a very short leash.
