gilbert i think is less susceptible to delusions tho i do think he suffers from them occasionally especially during / right after cold war era. but he Is just the right combo of kind of paranoid & high strung + in a kinda shite mental place once he effectively Doesn't Exist anymore that i think if u get him drunk enough and catch him at a bad time u can make him a victim of folie imposée

A lot of warriors in fiction have some kind of Special Reason even if they don't think it's special, like how Guts is "The Struggler" who simply can't give up. If I think about it like that, then it becomes "What is Tolys' narrative impetus to fight and what about that is strong enough to puppet his corpse around when he shouldn't be able to get back up?"

So, for Tolys, I think it's pride. Love is still secondary to pride in all things that he does, he falls back on it when he wants to have good reasons for things or he needs to convince himself his reasons are not selfish. If pride is his main motivator, then his will to fight beyond normal strength is the idea of "I cannot/will not die here". The idea is so repulsive to him that it would be enough to make him crawl and fight and struggle when he clearly has nothing left and there should be nothing to draw from, just pure insult making him squeeze out any last ounce of strength.

Secondly. since you requested asks + i think i thought of this when reading a fic of yrs. what do you think of how gils mortal8y interacts w liet. like i imagine liet 2 b one who kind of hangs on 2 the idea that empires rise & empires fall @ least Somewhere in the back of his mind. tho it gets Harder 2 cling on2 when gil is slowly becoming mortal & dying. what are yr thoughts on the Concept,,,, if you have any. soz im like horrible @ sending asks.

After WW1 I think Gilbert sees the writing on the wall and believes he's going to die, and when he's out of his mind enough believes the world is ending in a biblical way. He's struggling to get what he wants anyway but he really thinks this is The End for him, and is VERY OPEN ABOUT IT, to the dismay of anyone who cares about him.
