the thing they dont tell you about learning to "trust the process" is that you forget and relearn it every single time you make a new piece of art. unfortunately there is no cure either
a chart of what i mean for the visual learners in the audience
Reblogging for reference on how to make a blanket cape.
Wait I need this reference
I however do not have a good blanket for this
I shall have to acquire one

I have a lot of pet peeves but I think the biggest one is when people say things like “oh it’s such a small town, only 35,000 people” like bitch my town has 200 people, you need to pick a new adjective
According to Wikipedia, a small town is 1,000-20,000 people. So although you are correct in stating that 35,000 people is not a small town (it is a large town), you are incorrect in thinking that you live in a town. You live in a village. You are a villager.
I…… don’t know what to do with that information……a villager…

i think we should start openly mocking male creatives who can't figure out how to write women. like actually i think it's embarrassing that it took elliot page transitioning for christopher nolan to give him a good role. why did it take like ten years to get the first female lead in a marvel movie? why is it a Known Fact that stephen king can't write women? why is 50% of the population omitted from large ensemble works? i asked my friend to name a movie directed by a man with a majority female cast and he said ghostbusters 2016. ghostbusters. ghostbusters. g
Alright funny baby Stoat story time.
So when I was very, very little (think roughly 2-3 years old), I couldn't consistently pronounce 'Charlie,' so my name for myself was 'Awie/Arie.' I also was right at that stage of development where I was starting to develop, like, an inkling of how religion worked through osmosis. I also also was figuring out the concept of a 'sibling.' To a degree. Pets I had already figured out ages ago (we had, at the time, a big sweet old cat, and our neighbors had a cockatoo). So, according to my parents, my first ever independent prayer went 'Dear Jesus, Arie need baby sister, Arie want baby brother, Arie bird.' And that was that: my big three life priorities, in order.
Anyway, a few months later my mom got pregnant with what we would later learn was my little sister. And kind of as they were explaining the whole concept of pregnancy et cetera to me they decided to ask my feedback on baby names. And so I had mentioned a few girl names, and my parents went, "Okay, but Charlie, what if it's a baby boy?"
"It's not. That's my baby sister."
"But what if it is a baby brother? Don't you want to help pick out his name?" "'Him.'" And I refused to budge from that answer. Apparently it just was not worth even thinking about in my mind that it even might be a boy.
As previously mentioned, I wound up being right about that one.
So, several years after that, my parents pulled me aside and explained that my mom was pregnant again. And without missing a beat, my first question was "Can I share a bunk bed with him?" Because bunk beds were the coolest thing ever and obviously it was going to be a boy.
(Their reaction was very much 'oh boy, here we go again.')
Anyway, several months later, we were driving back from the ultrasound appointment where it had just been confirmed that, yes, that was my baby brother. And I (very smugly) asked from my car seat in the back,
"So, when do I get my bird?"
u guys omfg can we try feminism again. can we breathe life back into feminism's wounded and perishing body like OMFG she's dying...

love it when fma just says the quiet part out loud
[insert “i know writers who use subtext and they’re all cowards” here]
One of my favourite bits in fma is how during the final arc they bring up why attempting human stransmutation is forbidden, as the readers we've seen what happens when an attempt fails with Ed and Al, so of course the logical explanation is that "it's too dangerous to attempt", or even "it goes against the natural way the world works, it's monstruous in nature and impossible".
But then Arakawa in her infinite wisdom as a writer goes, lol no, the goverment has been making flesh monsters with human transmutations in secret for years, they forbid it so that nobody can't even come close to attempting to create a personal army that cannot feel pain
interesting map surely no biases going on here
That's what I was thinking the whole fucking time lol, Yankees are insane
Three years ago today. I love this bit of video. Not sure why.
Because this looks like a Monet painting or an old watercolour anime background come to life?! I was in utter disbelief until it started moving.
I read etiquette and homemaking guides from the 1800s mostly because they're a FASCINATING insight into cultural norms that we often don't think about. I honestly really recommend people crack one of these open at least once--it goes way beyond, like, "what to wear to a ball!!!"
The best ones have advice on decor, how to select high-quality furniture, childrearing, fashion, etc--from a contemporary perspective, and the things the authors feel the need to clarify vs the wild shit that will just casually mention like it's something everyone knows and agrees on is REALLY revealing of the culture and how it's shifted.
And while a lot of the advice is WILDLY bigoted or just outright funny, you'd be surprised how much of it is...just genuinely timeless, and shockingly compassionate.
They ALSO, as a writer, have INVALUABLE resources--because, again, they're talking about things that are so MUNDANE that a lot of the time nobody really sat down to formally document what normal, everyday people thought or cared about--because that's boring! But a book written to provide advice and information to, say, a young woman who's never run her own home before? You can fully expect an entire chapter dedicated to The Types Of Oven, and which features are useful and worth spending money on, and which features are a huge hassle to clean and a waste of space, and what to spend that money on instead.
And like. As a writer who frequently works in the 1800s? Fuck inflation calculators, this is the kind of thing I need. This is absolutely priceless.
Now that being said.
My current favorite 'etiquette guide' in the world is actually like....70% purely practical advice, written by a gentleman the groupchat has affectionately dubbed History's Most Autistic Man In The World, and thank god they didn't have Aderall back then
Because the AuDHD is strong in this one and as a result, in addition to the deeply practical and useful everyday reference points, we also have:
Alternate timeline in which all Greek and Latin roots are swapped:
catastrophe -> contraverse cephalopod -> capitoped chlorophyll -> viridofolia democracy -> populimpery homicide -> anthropoctony homosexual -> equigamic kilometer -> millimensure interregnum -> mesarchy magnanimous -> megapsychic manuscript -> chirography motorcycle -> ergatorote microscope -> parvovisor oxygen -> acidofex polyamory -> multierasty television -> remotoscope universe -> monostrophe
