i do think the negative interpretations of "im probably nonbinary but i have a job right now" are kind of reaching. it's obviously a waste of time to theorize the op's intended meaning, so instead i think it's better to recognize how the phrase can be a useful framing device to criticize how much of a fucking hassle it is to get gendered correctly. "but i have a job" e.g. will face discrimination that could threaten livelihood; e.g. don't have the mental bandwidth to explain gender to others; e.g. don't have the time and energy for the soul-searching necessary to confirm. all three of these are labor issues. yes you could interpret it as "but being nonbinary isn't important enough to worry about", despite that being a blatantly bad-faith read. it's more useful to interpret it as "but being publicly nonbinary requires a lot of social effort that, in many cultural contexts, will create more problems that you can't afford to deal with". like cmon it's a really good jumping off point for productive conversations about queer labor rights

We will be cooked as long as there are any feminists who believe that a child seeing somebody's tits before the age of 18 is tantamount to rape, and therefore only my cis brother can take his shirt off at the beach, because if I do, I will scar some 9-year-old for life. This level of prudishness is unbelievable to me. It's "we want gender egalitarianism and body autonomy!" until I use my body autonomy, and then everyone wants me to know that my body is inappropriate for children and that it is immoral for me not to accommodate their obsession with these completely non-sexual organs of mine. Can we please get our shit together?

There's so much moaning and screaming about how scandalous it is for people to walk around with their tits out, and yet none of these people approve of my plans to get a double mastectomy. These people refused to let me not have them, but now they're incensed that I have them. What a great system we've built here. I just adore living in a world where people think my body belongs to everybody except me.

i get why people don't believe in marriage as a social construct but legally it is the best and easiest way to say "this is who i trust to take care of me when i can't take care of myself" and i'm so glad gay people fought for that right bc when shit gets scary at least i know im in good hands

This is how I convinced my conservative grandma that the gays do also need marriage, actually. My grandad died when I was 4 and I asked her to imagine not being allowed to see him or make decisions for him or be entitled to an inheritance and she got very quiet and conceded the point. Marriage doesn't intrinsically mean anything but as a legal framework it is really, really important

I cannot recall if I've said this before but like. whenever someone gets really mad about "older" women in fandom, a term that literally can mean anything over 25, it's mostly just that like, in my experience at least, with time and age comes the ability to say "oh this person is being a dickhead and it's literally because of their own issues, and not because of anything I'm doing". LIke, in all seriousness, had I experienced the harassment I did during Campaign 3 when I was like, 23? It probably would have gone quite badly for my mental health and might have been successful in bullying me out of the fandom. experiencing it in my 30s? I can't say I'd care to repeat it, but my response wasn't "oh god I'm a horrible person and I should relapse into self-destructive habits and crawl into a hole and die"; it was "how do I get an exceptionally stupid person to realize this is going to go worse for them than it is for me should they continue along this path." I think people get really mad about women of a mortgage-having age in fandom because 1. misogyny and 2. ageism, but also, crucially, 3. it is often way harder to pummel those women into submission, which is ultimately what they want to do, and they're so mad they can't.
