In other news, on Level 7 my Tiefling Iblis will deal an average of 45.5 damage per turn if she hits
I used to go for high damage characters, planning all the levels ahead, but it got to the point where fights were ungodly boring.
So now my fighter with an AC of 30 (most of it natural) is becoming a Dread Pirate.
Normal Campaign Planning: "Okay, so then they enter the lich's lair and he has some brief dialogue then they fight."
Planning My Campaign: "So they'll be travelling towards the main villan, then a lich riding a large chicken will block there path. Rather than talk, he unloads a clip from an AK-47."

Literally every player: My character is an atheist
I always get confused when people make atheist characters in worlds where magic and miracles are readily available! I think that the DragonLance Gnomes are probably the only time Iâve seen that work and actually make sense.
Atheist in my setting means youâre not actively worshipping anyone.
One of my characters was athirst to the point of saying "God not real."
To make a long story short, she was the potential vessal to a god at that point. The only reason she said the gods weren't really was because the nation she was in burned her alive and called her a witch. So she hated their religion and wanted to piss them off.
Now she just chills at home with her "assasin" wife. Favorite character by far.

You might want to bring back negative HP
In 3.5e, once again me not knowing my 5e nearly enough, never do away with negative HP. If you die at zero, it gets rid of so many features.
For example, my current character Ruger Thundercock, upon reaching zero HP, activates Die Hard, which let's him keep attacking until -10. At -10, any character not stabilized dies. Rather than be unconscious, he uses his sheet force of will to stay awake, much like myself through college.

Why?
As a cis man, I can say some of my characters were women tbh. That being said, playing in character as a gender your not can be tough. Especially voices.

Tonight I had to punish a player for referring to the Monster Manual as a âhusband catalogâ

Offer your players the route of being possessed by a devil. However, with a successful will check, they begin possessing said devil and using their powers.
Any character with 16+ Charisma is legally obligated to be as unnecessarily dramatic as possible when doing even the most mundane tasks.
If your sorcerers don't pose and make melodramatic monologues you're playing D&D wrong.
The villain of the campaign is Pun-Pun. Your players have 2d6 days from the start of the campaign to hunt down the right 5th level kobold. Bonus points: Party is level 1.
