I had the unpleasant experience of going to a KC satellite city downtown event and witnessing one of the so-called “teen takeovers” around 8:30 P.M.

Large crowds of mostly 17 year old kids screaming “gun!” and causing everyone to run away from nothing like herd animals. At one point I was walking against a panicking flood of teens to get to the bar that was about to open across the street.

We live in America, man. I don’t care if there WAS an actual gun being brandished (though I highly doubt it). I gotta go places.

Stealing this post to rant a little.

The AI companies that keep raising the price of their tokens or whatever have ran a clinic on unsuspecting executives. Companies have fought tooth and nail to union bust since forever, but for some reason, they have decided to outsource large swaths of the labor to advanced auto-complete machines at the direction of other companies.

Because the AI code is unknown territory and the workforce at some of these mid-sized software companies is so sparse, the owners are basically on the hook for paying an AI bill. So like, they never unionized, but functionally they now have to deal with a union. The outsider company can flippantly raise token prices (cost of “labor”) and well, that’s that.

Hey, is it a bad sign if the production software service you’re using for your blog spits out an error message containing the lead developers personal home folder path for ruby gems? Just wondering.

Two things that are interesting about this particular dev.

1. He is super into using A.I. for software development

2. These types of bugs have been present in the service for a while now; years before the adoption of any A.I. tooling

Take from this what you will… but honestly, this seems very typical with developers who view AI as a revolutionary engineering unlock.
