The day has finally, finally come. I set out to start this fic after finishing Aster last year, and I brainstormed all summer and into the fall. I've never planned harder for a single story, but what's even crazier is I originally had ideas for this in 2022 and expanded that in 2023. Currently, I have 12k worth of notes alone, which means there's no telling how long this will end up. It'll be a WIP for the foreseeable future and my #1 priority because it's overtaken my brain tenfold.

Now, I am not a medical professional. I've done countless medical research for this (still am) but there will be some levels of fiction because of the doctor/patient relationship. Bucky's disease/illness is made up, and obviously we're gonna have him and Steve making out in a hospital room at some point and more, so... 😘

🩺 Summary 🩺

Bucky, the son of a state senator and a real estate billionaire, leads a luxurious but troubled lifestyle. Even with the wealth and power of the Barnes family, Bucky is always one hospital stay away from death. Doctors are evil. Hospitals send him into a panic attack. Nobody knows what might be wrong with him. His body is broken. Former emergency physician turned pulmonologist, Steve spends his days between the hospital and the assisted-living facility where his Ma resides. He has a network of work colleges, countless lives to save, and enough nightmares to keep him awake at night. One lapse of concentration, one false decision, can mean the difference between life and death. Little do they know, their paths will soon cross. But will it be in time to save Bucky from his mysterious illnesses?

How about you take into consideration that some of us have been doing this stuff for literal years? How about you think about the fact that AI models were literally trained on actual artists’ work?

Just because you can’t fathom how someone might put something together doesn’t mean that it was made by AI.

I’m honestly disappointed by the reaction from so many of you. I pour my heart and soul into my work, and it breaks my heart to see the accusations because it takes what I love doing and renders it meaningless.

Because of this, I’m going to be taking a break. I’ve got some bang and reverse bang commitments that I’m going to follow through with, but that’s going to be it for a while.

I love creating, and I love my fandoms, but this is going too far. I spent hours creating something I’m super proud of for a zine that I was invited to be part of.

My art involved photoshopping a reference image, creating pride jerseys from scratch, learning how to manipulate images to “fit” over the reference models, photoshopping the actors faces over the reference images, and then going through the process of layering textures and backgrounds and making it look like watercolours, adding the overlines and playing with the colours and tones.

I shouldn’t need to explain my process to everyone. I shouldn’t need to defend myself against baseless accusations. I definitely don’t have to produce a fucking “screen record” of my process to defend myself.

The “explanation” and “apology”.

I was not contacted about anything before a post went up saying that my cover art was AI. I was not contacted before I made my own post in the discord asking what was going on.

I did not apply to be the cover art of this zine. I was *invited*.

I’m so sorry, Jill. This is truly awful. It’s horrible to think that folk on a server, who have admired and requested your art, are so quick to condemn you instead of standing up for you and pushing back.

Your stance on AI is well established, and predates you getting back into art.

I bet these people aren’t doing anything about the server members feeding works into AI detectors, or spreading rumors.

Name and shame the server/zine so other people know to avoid it. “There’s literally no way we could prove you did or did not use AI and instead of trusting you we’ll punish you to pander to the folks destroying fandom and feeding AI detectors.” Absolute madness.

For everyone else: Enough is Enough.

You literally cannot. CANNOT. Determine if someone is using AI. AI stole art and copied it just like they scraped fics to mimic. Of course AI looks like and sounds like us, it’s just copying us!! AI checkers are still AI and incapable of identifying itself!!

What you are doing is loudly yelling you don’t know how to make something and therefore it upsets you and has to be fake.

I am so upset and angry about all of this. I was so excited about it, I’d even planned to order extra copies because I wanted to share in the excitement with everyone else and support the charities and other artists and authors who were taking part.
