While people are talking about tgwdlm again I guess it's a good time to bring up one of the various crossover aus I've kicked around where I put the characters from some other thing into that plot. Today I'm gonna talk about my fotc concept because I think it has the most going for it
So Bret has been getting a lot of long shifts at his sign holding job lately and Jemaine has taken to visiting him during these shifts because it's boring at home without him. One morning Jemaine is startled by a crowd of people singing "Friends" at him. He's not sure how they know that song, as they haven't actually performed it for an audience yet. Bret sympathizes, saying that everybody at his job has also gotten really into singing and dancing lately. This is demonstrated when Coco and his boss rope him into an impromptu performance of "Boom", a song he originally only sang in his head and is a bit embarrassed to have to actually sing out loud. People who've eaten the hot dogs that Bret is holding a sign to advertise start coughing, so they decide to get out of there. They meet up with Murray, Mel, and Dave; Murray is initially excited that everyone suddenly knows the conchords' music until it's pointed out that the people singing are clearly zombies.
Unbeknownst to anyone, Mel has been carrying on an affair with Dave for a while (it started when they cosplayed as Aragorn and Arwen in the "Frodo, Don't Wear The Ring" music video. Mel tried to make Dave wear the Bret wig but he was like "fuck no, I'm not dressing up as those lame ass irishmen"). Mel suggests they all go to her house to lay low :3 and she'll take really good care of Bret and Jemaine and keep them safe and sound :33 But when they get to her place, Doug starts approaching Mel singing "Business Time". Dave knocks Doug out with his patented Can Attack (tm) and they tie him up, but Doug then sings "I Told You I Was Freaky" to convince Mel that he can provide her with a more exciting sex life. Ripping out her guts is actually incorporated into the song as one of the freaky activities and Mel is totally into it. In fact that's what wins her over <3 Not that she has much choice at that point.
Meanwhile, Dave is getting drunk and arguing with Murray, who's worried about his dog Toby. Bret and Jemaine already know each other's life stories pretty well so they don't have a ton to talk about, but Bret confides that he doesn't want to die in New York, so far from where he grew up. Jemaine reassures him that at least they won't be dying in Australia. Mel barges in zombified and sings "Mutha'uckas". Idk who takes her out or how; things derail a lot more from the tgwdlm plot from here on out.
Murray decides he needs to go across town to his apartment and rescue Toby. Nobody is willing to go with him so he just goes off on his own and we hear a motif that sounds suspiciously like hit song Doggy Bounce by the Crazy Dogggz. After a while he comes back in a bit of a manic mood talking about how maybe this whole musical apocalypse thing isn't so bad, and actually he always wanted to direct a musical (so yeah basically switching from Bill analogue to Hidgens analogue because fotc doesn't have enough relevant characters. And because it's fun to get silly with it). He sings the musical medley from the show they put on in the final episode, but with "Leggy Blonde" added in, and the eponymous leggy blonde herself shows up to disembowel him.
Dave, Bret, and Jemaine get out of there and try to get to. Uh. Okay wait I just remembered that one lady who lied to Bret about being in the military. Maybe she appears and is actually in the military now and has a chopper for some reason. Or they're just trying to make it to an airport, idk, anyway Dave ditches them to try to be a cool solo action hero but immediately gets taken out. Nobody is heroic enough to try to go blow up a meteor but all the infected show up to sing something at them, idk what though. Maybe "Ladies Of The World" because it has that part about soldiers?? Anyway Bret and Jemaine get split up and Bret accidentally gets put on a flight to Australia instead of New Zealand.
Some time later, Bret has managed to book a flight to Wellington and is excited to go home, though he's a bit worried about Jemaine. We learn that most of the world except for Australia and NZ is now overrun by the hive, so a lot is riding on the infection not spreading to either of those nations. At the airport he reunites with Jemaine, who greets him with "hey there, Bret..." Bret's relief is short-lived as Jemaine launches into "Bret, You've Got It Going On". Bret does still join in on the part where he's asked to despite being upset and terrified, because it's just polite.
Optional bonus twist: this whole thing is revealed to be a fantasy Bret had after Jemaine asked him something like "wouldn't it be great if one day you could walk down the street and hear people singing our songs?" After imagining all this Bret shakes his head and goes "no I think it'd be really scary. And kind of sad because everyone would become zombies" and doesn't elaborate.
