First of all, let’s count the times she was mentioned in the one from her death to the end shall we?

1. “I watched in confusion as a red-marked guard walked up behind Celeste and put a bullet squarely through the back of her head.”

2. “I’m shocked by how much I wish Celeste was here. I can imagine her rolling her eyes and then winking, or something like that. Making some wisecrack that was almost snotty but not quite. I really, really miss her. ”

TWO TIMES. TWO TIMES IS CELESTE MENTIONED AFTER HER DEATH. DEATH WHICH WAS WRITTEN IN A SINGLE SENTENCE BY THE WAY.

Now, before you start coming at me, I know, I know that at least two months have past between the last chapter and the epilogue(America tells Eadlyn she married Maxon when she was 18, so the wedding had to take place after February 26) so America had time to grieve then. But it was a huge disappointment to me that I felt Celeste didn’t get the appreciation she deserved.

Throughout the first three books and her scenes in Happily Ever After, we saw her character grow and mature a lot. We saw her relationships with America and the other Selected develop as well, as they went from enemies to close friends. She even apologized to Anna for provoking her when she had the opportunity! I feel like Kiera would have had an amazing character to bring back in the Heir duology and show how she’s grown and how she gets along with America and Maxon’s kids(realizing how well she would have gotten along with Eadlyn is actually painful to think about).

Also, I get that she was insanely worried about Maxon, but I don’t understand why in the chapter where she is in the safe room not once does America think about Celeste. Her friend got shot. In the head. Before her eyes. That’s pretty traumatizing alone. I would have broken down about that being in her place.

1. @partylikeawordstar says that on September 2, America arrives at the palace. In The Prince, it is said that the girls would arrive on Friday. Then the girls arrive on Friday, September 2nd.

2.
