It's not something that is easily explained to someone who has never experienced it, but honestly, I think this is a byproduct of the dominant cultural attitude that "being a woman is suffering/a victim", which this person may have subconsciously absorbed.

In fact, trans women probably learned it from you all because they thought it'd make them a "real woman". (But apparently it makes them a pervert when they do it.)

(And I honestly wouldn't put it past you guys to assure said sexual abuse victim that she was "safe" with you and that you could be a shoulder to cry on- and then drug her and give her the strap anyway.)

That said, if you genuinely think being trans is a mental illness instead of using that as an excuse to shame people, you would also take into account that people with mental health issues often have distressing and less-than-PC thoughts that are not 100% under their control. In addition to this example, it could be said that someone with OCD who has intrusive thoughts about murdering a loved one or abusing an animal does not really want to murder someone or abuse an animal and is aware of the dissonance. Similarly, this person isn't 100% on board with their own thought process and seems distressed about it.

If your loved one were to experience something so horrific and you can't spare a single thought for them-- not one line in this post even touches on how his sister feels, or expresses any concern for her-- and instead run straight to the internet to validate your petty jealousy (and don't pretend that isn't what this is about. they aren't looking for actual criticism, they came to the internet to get reassured that it's normal and okay by people like you) you're not a victim. on pornhub videos with no source, which is most of them, how do you know shes acting? How do you know she’s really 18? How do you know she’s enjoying any of it? You don’t. It’s that simple. You are making these assumptions to spare yourself guilt, so you can go on watching porn without having to waste even a second considering if you’re masturbating to the literal rape of a trafficked woman. Unless you’re asserting that sex trafficking simply doesn’t happen or is so rare that out of the hundreds of videos you’ve probably seen none of them could be from trafficking?? Because that would be an extremely naive thing to think. Sex trafficking is extremely profitable and porn makes it moreso. Globally sex trafficking accounts for the majority of revenue from human trafficking, at least 99 BILLION dollars, at least half of this revenue is from porn.

I would also like to add that at least 71% of all human trafficking victims are female, and the average age that girls enter the sex trade in the US is 12-14 years old. Remember that’s just in the US, victims elsewhere are often much younger (though I’m not including that as a main point as i don’t know how frequently this makes it into porn, most girls in these countries are exclusively trafficked for brothels)

So, by the chances of it you have likely got off to a trafficking video at some point. If you watch porn a lot you have probably orgasmed to rape a few times. If you’re porn addicted you’ve likely even enjoyed the rape of a child once or twice (even if the title says they’re 18).

But! Enough of all that! Let’s say that the girls women in these kinds of videos are really just actresses, that are willingly doing porn. Does that make it okay? Even willing porn actresses exist in a culture of coercion, manipulation, and blackmail. Many many prolific porn actresses, mostly ex actresses, have described being threatened with violence if they don’t do something, being told they won’t be paid unless they do it, had the scene change in the middle of filming, had boundaries pushed, been forced to work with people they’ve explicitly said they don’t want to work with, had sex acts forced on them without their knowledge, been intentionally hooked on hard drugs to trap them in the industry. And much worse.

But again, enough about that! Let’s say that’s rare and that MOST actresses love their jobs and are even doing these kind of extreme scenes willingly. Let’s exist in this little fantasy for a moment. Even then, does it make it okay? I wouldn’t say so. The audience is still being aroused by and getting off to the pain and non-consent (even if it’s completely fantasy). The fantasy of her saying no, of her being in pain, of her crying real pleading tears for it all to stop, of her rape, that’s what makes you orgasm?? Women are increasingly dying from “consensual kinky sex gone wrong” this same excuse is being used to get men off from murder charges, and it’s working. And here’s another. How many of these men are really just violent abusers who’ve found a loophole by claiming it’s kink gone wrong?

It’d be very easy to pay the porn sites to host (for example) Nike fetish videos, or Danone yogurt fetish videos. All these articles about millennials and gen z not buying fabric conditioner/softener? It’s not in the porn vids. Associate Spring Fresh scent with sex and watch the sales increase.

3) You couldn't be more wrong about Womanism in comparison to feminism. Several Black Authors & Scholars (both Men AND Women) have written extensively about the difference between the 2 modalities. Womanism has been known to be extremely contradictory and has failed to take popularity because it was a bandaid to a racist failing of a movement at a period in time, not because it’s ideals were exemplary and uniquely sensible. Because it’s not. There are many other ‘feminisms’ that do what womanism seeked to do all the same and some might feel, even better (ie marxist feminism, radical feminism, actual inclusive non racist feminism, etc).

I tagged this #i will not elaborate on this at this time, but now I will elaborate on it. 

I’m gonna go ahead and post the disclaimer: Academic studies of the nature of oppressive forces are generally a good thing. There’s even some value in the ideas of “unpacking language” and “deconstructing narratives,” because yes, sometimes those things matter. I’m specifically talking about a certain kind of academic writing that is hard to define, but tends to have a few specific characteristics: It’s usually focused on something “social justice” related, it’s written in extremely dense jargon, and it’s more focused on moralizing than making any meaningful analysis or providing practical recommendations. 

This kind of writing is not for the purpose of furthering our understanding of oppressive forces. This kind of writing is for furthering the careers of academics.

Academia works kind of like an MLM. Professors want to keep their jobs, so they need students to teach and graduate assistants to help with their research (and grade their papers for them), so they convince people to pursue education in their field. Then those people want to become professors, and they also need students and graduate assistants. A few rounds of this, and you end up with way, way more people with PhDs than positions for professors. This creates the increasingly cutthroat nature of academia. (I’m gonna come back to this.)

So how do you succeed in a saturated academic field? You look smarter than your competition, and you tear your competition down at every possible opportunity. That’s where this kind of writing comes in. It’s so dense as to be incomprehensible - but who’s going to admit that they don’t understand it and risk looking stupid? No, now you need to write an even denser, even more incomprehensible article, so you look even smarter. And the focus of “social justice” shields you from criticism. Any criticism of your writing or analysis can be turned back on you with accusations of bigotry or limited, privileged perspective. And you can’t defend yourself against accusations like that - it just makes you look worse. The more incomprehensible and “social justice-y” your writing, the smarter you look, and the less likely you are to be criticized - and the more credibility and leverage you have to criticize your competition. “Cancel culture” existed in academia long before it made its way to Twitter. 

This nasty little game was previously limited to the ivory towers of academia and the people who wanted to join them. The average person did not give a shit what the word “discursive” meant. If you had to engage with this in the pursuit of a regular degree, you nodded along, vomited back the language into your essays, and moved on with your life. (This stuff is partially where the idea of the “liberal brainwashing university” comes from.). For the most part, you had to seek this stuff out if you wanted to engage with it. The people whose dreams of an academic career didn’t pan out went and got jobs writing for snooty newspapers and/or teaching AP Brit Lit in their hometowns.

Enter social media.

Now you’re not just after that tenure-track job, now you’re after that blue check. Now the game plays out in the public sphere. Moreover, every bargain-bin Foucault knockoff who would normally move on from his failed dreams of being an academic at some point can keep playing the game forever. And every undergraduate with three weeks of Philosophy 101 under their belt and a 19 year old’s passion for social causes can also participate. Their friends, not wanting to be shown up or left out, also get in on the game. And so do their friends. And, like a virus, it spreads and spreads and spreads - with Tumblr and Twitter being the primary sources of infection. Super-spreader sites.

As it spreads outward, people lose sight of the fact that none of this ever mattered in the first place. This kind of writing doesn’t serve the purposes of liberation and never did. It was never meant to. It was always a shallow, artificial charade. But it becomes entrenched in the language of politics and liberation as if it was real. To use their own language, we’ve gone through Baudrillard’s four stages of the image. “It bears no relation to any reality whatever: it is its own pure simulacrum.”

And remember what I said about academia being like an MLM? This serves their purposes very well. More people are talking about their field, more people are interested in it! They have more students, they need more funding, they need to hire more professors! And we all know what professors need… It replicates itself to eat itself alive to replicate itself.
