"Plutarch pov prequel this", "Plutarch pov prequel that" - you what would fucking slap in my opinion? Caesar Flickerman pov prequel.
Katniss and Haymitch I think both pointed out how he genuinely tries to help the tributes through their interviews and he was born into a legacy that is such a huge part of the Hunger Games. Also it would be incredibly interesting to have a pov of someone from the Capitol who doesn't remember the war. Someone who grew up on propaganda and didn't notice how fucked everything in the country is until he was already a vital part of the system himself.
It's also obvious that the resistance must've had some valuable contacts close to the games and the government. Not trying to turn Caesar into a secret hero, but maybe he passed along some information here and there, stuff like that? Idk, I just think there are a lot of opportunities here.
drawing capitol citizens is my passion
couple of wips ✨
Well, it's time to share my controversial opinion...
Now that we know casting of the two prequels, I believe the casting of Lucretius Flickerman and young Caesar Flickerman should have been the other way around.
imho JS's appearance is closer to og Caesar's, while KC looks more like a distant relative (especially considering that they decided to go for a natural look and moustache lol). As for acting, you can create any character and image you want, they're blank canvas; that's what actors do after all. But in my opinion, KC would be perfect for Lucky. He's a sarcastic dandy, funny and caustic, he doesn't care about the tributes, it's simply his time to shine. On the other hand the fact that JS created and thought out some of the lore for Lucky character, that was great. I believe with that approach he could have played an interesting young Caesar with more depth behind him, as he's a much more complex character.
Overall, this isn't really a complaint, but rather my personal impressions. I'll be interested to see all different versions and portrayals. But it's a shame that, the cast could have been more suitable if sotr had been actually planned from the very start, rather than suddenly appearing some time later.
And I find it odd and ironic that sotr movie tries to be faithful to the og movie trilogy in every way, including changing the book characters' appearances to match the movie versions. But somehow this doesn't apply to Caesar. The only character who canonically "hasn't changed in 40 years and looks practically the same" is now the only one who doesn't look like his younger self.
saw the take that the complaints about sotr are simply whining, and that we should be grateful that collins wrote a new book for us to enjoy, along with the reblogged takes akin to “don’t like, don’t read”.
i’d like to start by saying critical interaction with work is not inherently a complaint, nor is it just whining. it is often a form of respect, valuing the piece as something worth discussing.
to critique a work, you must engage with the work. “Don’t like, dont read” does not apply to mass published works, especially those intended to be a commentary. “Don’t like, dont read” would flatten the entire realm of philosophy and academic discourse. “Don’t like, don’t read” is separating realms of thought and devaluing critical thinking and discussion. It is the first step in creating echo chambers.
For fan work, for unpublished work, for free and accessible art, “don’t like, don’t read” absolutely stands. But the moment you require someone to pay for a text, or the moment you position your text as a political commentary as SOTR does, it invites critique. we shouldn’t just praise anything that comes out of collins’s pen. We should think more deeply about the text. We should engage with a magnifying glass. That is a form of respect. That is a valid and necessary way to interact with published media.
sotr brings absolutely nothing new to the hunger games’s larger political commentary. There was nothing more for Collins to say that has not already been thematically applied or discussed in the trilogy. we do not need a new product just because the others are five years old. we do not need an author to produce just to produce. and we should absolutely point out when the production leans more toward the pocket than toward the mind.
I have no idea what scene this is because it clearly wasn't in the book, but... If it takes place after the reaping and before the tribute parade, and I see gloves and a suit?? (too bad it's not a leather jacket)... My wild guess is that Mr. Flickerman will be riding a motorcycle 🙂
To be more reasonable, it also looks like something like a ceremonial suit. It's opening ceremony and master of ceremonies after all.
(however, the question about two goldfish is still open...)

interview attire meme, but featuring the interviewer himself 🎤✨
Okay, let's talk about Caesar's green hair...
I don't like the character's new look, but the costumes and hairstyle themselves aren't that important. What matters are the details that are specific to the character. And Caesar's dyed hair is his signature look. The color may not play any role in the plot, since he's a minor character (yet for me there is something deeper to this), but it's part of the image by which he's known and remembered.
Book canon can be changed, but removing Caesar's colored hair is a distortion of the character. It should be green, period
“Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the 50th Hunger Games Night of Interviews. And here’s everybody’s favorite host, Caesar Flickerman!”
I'm completely disappointed with the sotr character designs, whatever that is, so instead I'm offering you something sparkly & colorful 😌✨
