every time i see a theory related to the book saying “dazai is actually the book” i can’t describe how much i hate it. there are so many storylines, hints, conversations, his literal ability name that shows us how disconnected he feels to being human and seeing anything implying he isn’t human i just can’t stand it.

OH! and in addition to my last post where i said chuuya would not be mad at dazai for leaving may i also suggest:
this panel is so important to me because i view it as a way of asking “are we okay?” or “you’re not mad at me right?” and “we are okay, i’m not mad.” type of confirmation. that’s why i ache that dazai laughing till he cries isn’t animated because it means they are okay :( .
something very small maybe but whenever i see a post about dazai and chuuya related to dazai leaving the port mafia and i see “dazai betraying the port mafia” and chuuya hating him for that i just... i simply disagree so much.
when the topic is soukoku, the two things that are more infront and always stated is that one, they are the only people for each other that they would trust with their whole lives and two, no one knows the other the way they do. to have a bond that insane- that doesn’t happen to people who are just “work” partners.
which leads me into my main point.
mori ruined dazai and we don’t even have a clear idea of how awful he was- only from what we have seen right now from light novels, 15 manga etc. is already extremely disturbing and so chuuya would not be mad at him for leaving the mafia. he wouldn’t see this act as “betrayal to the mafia” because he would know better than anyone about what he has been through.
i do think he would be sad, which it was implied (my interpretation of it! i’ll post the panel there feel free to reply) that he was in the manga panel where he tells dazai he was glad he left, looking extremely passive, would be sad because he didn’t tell him but he wouldn’t care if what he did was betraying the mafia or whatever.

out of the two, dazai and chuuya, in fanfiction or character interpretations it is always shown as chuuya loving dazai, him not caring, chuuya being more openly affectionate and his life crumbling when dazai left him etc. etc. because he is viewed as far more emotionally unavailable and so much more distant (emotionally)
however i want to suggest my side of it, which i think chuuya is more emotionally constipated than dazai.
chuuya will put his life on the line for dazai (proved several times) but not his emotional vulnerablity. when we read light novels like fifteen, stormbringer we see that dazai is a lot more communicating? than chuuya is. this i think is connected a lot to the amount of traumatic situations chuuya has been in that he is very guarded.
a good example of it can also be how that when odasaku died dazai listened to his words and went on action towards that while when the flags died chuuya activated corruption, a state of complete black out and destruction.
