Lightrion headcanons? ^_^
HI ANON!!!! Thanks for the ask, I've been rotating them in my brain constantly, this is such a fun opportunity to just word vomit. Most of my headcanons are, I'd say, canon adjacent??
Not ship-specific, but when Lightray returns from the Waiturnum, he comes back mini-sized. Someone on here was calling Lightray "Orbray" when he was in the Waiturnum. Orbray evolves into a teeny pixie fairy Lightray and then as time passes, he grows. So, tiny little fairy Lightray to put in Orion's pocket for a little while, and he looks like this(I got inspired by Witch Hat Atelier Coco's smoke sculpture):
2. Orion is very chill, but Lightray is jealous as hell. Orion's used to people admiring Lightray, look at him. He gets compared to flowers! That's gentle Lightray who always has a faint glow about him. Who wouldn't fall for him? It makes sense. Lightray while he sees the appeal of Orion and understands the crushes, he haaaaaaaates it. No one knows Orion the way he does, they don't deserve him. Lightray flirts with the people trying to hit on Orion, he's fending off competition. He's disguises his jealousy in pettiness.
3. The Source just, gives them a baby. I got deeply affected by seeing Orion carrying around Liv, Kamal and Melissa. Melissa especially when she said "I wish I was your child". Orion's meant to be dad!!! He's so dad-shaped! Lightrion would make such good parents ;_; So one random day, The Source just leaves a baby and it's got Orion's hair and Lightray's eyes. Everyone can see this baby's a perfect combination of Lightrion.
4. Orion helped Lightray when he was learning to fly. Lightray climbing the top of a tree to test his flying, Orion stands at the bottom, arms open to catch him. Orion has absolute trust in Lightray that he will fly, but Lightray's so scared he'll get hurt.
Lightray: "You will catch me!"
Orion: "I will have no need to, you can do this Solis."
Lightray: "I do not trust myself, these powers are too fickle and strange."
Orion: "If you do not trust yourself, then I beg you to trust me."
Lightray does manage to fly all the way on his own eventually, buuuut....he pretends to drop mid air to be caught in Orion's arms ;)
5. Everyone on New Genesis is just waiting for these two to get together. They've been witness to this budding romance since they were both boys. Bets have been placed, illicit fanfiction has been written and widely distributed, there are at least fifteen plays a season about 'The God of Light and The God of Wrath's Romance'. The Celestial, the Bugs, the Furies, ScottBarda, HIGHFATHER, everyone's in on it. Forager and Fastbak are pioneering the fanfiction.
6. Darkseid really likes Lightray as a future son-in-law. This one actually has canon backing I'd wager. In Orion(2000-2002), Lightray gives Darkseid his condolences when Orion is presumed dead. Darkseid is taken aback that Lightray would do that. Darkseid has a clear soft spot for Orion and doesn't want him dead, he gets mad at anyone who does get close to killing him, especially if they're being dishonorable. Lightrion wedding is the only time Apokolips is chill, he purposefully calls of any attack plans to support. It's horrifying. Orion, come to the dark side, bring your delightful husband with you.
7. Lightray during the wedding planning is a menace to society. He's obsessing over every little detail. The Bridezilla(Groomzilla??) of all time. Orion would marry Lightray in a garbage dump, he's frankly in shock that he's getting married to Lightray and wandering between battles and New Genesis in a daze. Some poor parademon attacks him, he bashes them and goes "I will soon be Lightray's husband!".
8. I like the idea of yandere-tendencies Lightray. He's super protective of Orion, possessive, and wants to keep him all to himself. He's also like canonically a bit apathetic and has no qualms just turning people to dust, he's got this natural cruel edge to him that he has no fears leaning into. Orion's a little oblivious, or has rose-tinted glasses on about it. Everyone who has faced Lightray in battle is terrified of him. Orion knows Lightray can hold his own but he's also like "he's so sweet and gentle you guys, he knows not how to be cruel!", and everyone's like "buddy he's with you because you match in your ruthlessness".
9. Orion never manages to get over seeing Lightray as someone he must protect, Lightray does noooooot mind, in fact he'll feed into it. When they first met, Orion already knew he'd be a dog of war, but Solis had no powers to speak of. So Orion dotes and protects him a lot, he makes sure he never gets injured. Lightray hates being seen as weak, being coddled, by anyone that isn't Orion.
10. Orion unlocked like eighteen different parts of his sexuality when he realized his bloodlust and actual lust got mixed up when fighting Lightray. Following up on the previous, when Lightray gets his powers, he can hold his own against Orion. It's a whole new dynamic. Orion's enjoyment for battle and violence gets fully triggered and he goes all out against Lightray, and he's more trained for battle than him so he does eventually pin Lightray down and it's.......oh he wants to kill him and kiss him, he wants to hurt him and be hurt by him. His heart's pounding away in his chest. He can feel Lightray's quickening pulse where he's pinned him down by his wrist. Lightray LOVES IT. He likes protective Orion, he also likes his War Dog. He'll have either way, all the ways!
11. Lightray got inspiration for his new name from Orion. Orion has a tendency to give Lightray epithets, and one day it was something like "Rays-of-light Solis" or "Gentle-light Solis". And it was said when they're relaxing in the fields, in the sunset, and he remembers Orion's sweet smile as he said it with such love and Solis never wanted to be known as anything but Lightray ever again. In anyone else's mouth, it's a name. In Orion's, it's a term of affection.
