This is the brilliant thing, though! Griffin knows the people he’s playing with so well that he responds to their characters in the way they need him to, whatever that means for them.
Clint first: Everyone, especially the three of them, know that he’s a great dad who loves his kids more than anything and is in general a really nice guy. So when he makes a character whose arc is, in part, learning to be a loving dad, Griffin plays along because it’s just a joke, and it sets Clint up to tell a story about what it’s like to be a parent, and how to be a good one- which is a story Clint is incredibly qualified to tell.
Travis: since he created Magnus, Travis has been all about his backstory and making Magnus a deep character with a lot of deep motivations behind his choices. In taking us through to Magnus’ death, Griffin gives Travis the chance to do what he’s always envisioned with Magnus. He lets Travis complete the story of Magnus, bringing some resolution to Magnus’ earliest goals and motivations.
Justin: Is a self-described socially anxious person who can be pretty self deprecating. In insisting that Taako is more talented, smart, and loved than he realizes, Griffin is responding to the parts of the character (this is only my theory, now) that reflect Justin’s anxieties. And he does it by reassuring Justin, via Taako’s story, that he is smarter, more talented, and better liked than he thinks he is.
Nothing but a theory, but I think it holds some water.
