I recently watched one of those I completed 100% of the game videos for west of loathing and I thought that it kinda does a huge disservice to the game. I don’t think a single person after watching this video would actually understand what the game is about and would want to play it themselves. The amazing humor that the series is known for? Gone. The character interactions? Gone. The experience of being a cowboy in a silly world? Gone. All replaced with I went to place A to talk to person B to retrieve an item to return it to place C and so on. And it’s not like they actually 100% the game, they just did all achievements, which doesn’t even cover most of the game? Never got fully into the circus, never got the band in dirtwater, never got the time traveling device, so on and so forth.
and like it got me thinking how many people watched those types of videos and missed out on great games. How many watched a playthrough like this and thought that the game was not their type or boring when in reality they might have enjoyed it if they played it themselves or watched a different playthrough.
I’m obviously not trying to hate on the creator, maybe it’s mostly for people who beat the game, or I’m the silly one because it still got a good amount of views, and it’s not like those types of videos always do a bad job at portraying the featured games. But it’s just…weird how widespread those types of videos have become.
TLDR: just watch markiplier play it instead. Or better yet play west of loathing(and other games) yourself
