Okay so hear me out here, you know how Snotlout said his mother taught him how to sew? And how the riders got updated clothes before Rtte for the event?

Tuffnut Headcannons:

Tuffnut is fairly smart but has never really been good with economics, especially understanding pricing. So Ruffnut has to do the shopping, or else Tuffnut ends up saying yes to any price a trader says with zero questioning on why a quil is worth his life savings.

Tuffnut spends a lot of time reading, but tends to hide it from the other riders, with he and Ruffnut only reading after dark or when they're on watch

The teeth on Tuffnut's necklace are shark teeth. Gruffnut brought them back for him on one of his "adventures", and Tuffnut actually has a couple of scars/scratches from where they've scratched against his neck. He managed to scare Snotlout once by convincing him the night terrors had "gone savage" and attacked him once.

Tuffnut can actually cook, but no one trusts him to

Berk had to invent a prison system specifically for him; however, Tuffnut just kept breaking out to the point they just kinda gave up

Tuffnut learned a lot of his tricks from his mother and tends to be closer to her than his father whom he doesn't really get along with too well, as he more so married into the Thorsons and doesn't share their love for pranks or Loki

Tuffnut is actually second best at taming dragons in the group, as he tends to be a bit more fearless than Snotlout and fishlegs and more able to connect with dragons than Ruffnut and Astrid

I think if Tuffnut got his own dragon it’d be a timberjack because of his love for sharp class dragons

Tuffnut likes drawing mutated images of dragons (think how medieval painters couldn’t draw big cats cause they only had descriptions of them but intentional) with vivid colours he got through crushed clays and flowers

Tuffnut likes the idea of living in a skrill storm, hiccup said no 😭

The twins were born on the summer solstice, Tuffnut believes Loki just wanted to give them more spotlight for their plans

Tuffnut is pretty good with slight of hand and Hiccup actually agreed to let him go around the northern markets once to steal what he could from the dragon hunters, he ended up getting too bold though and the two barely made it out of there by the skin of their teeth

With the live action movie stirring the fandom back up a little I’ve seen a few posts lately talking about some of Httyd 3 flaws, typically blaming the Lightfury for the fault of the film and would like to disagree rather heavily by saying even without her being in the movie at all this is an inherently flawed idea for a film.

This idea that dragons shouldn’t exist within our world because they’re just too pure for us is wrong on so many levels.

You can’t just remove an animal from its natural environment and have everything be perfectly fine

Dragons in the Httyd universe are native species specifically a mix of prey and predator animals with incredible ecological impact. Take the bewilderbeast for example, it is heavily implied throughout the second movie they are directly responsible for the formation of iceburgs and habitats and eco systems that form around them. It’s more than big dragon makes ice burgs. Varka’s bewilderbeast created their entire homeland, whilst regularly leaving the territory to fight and travel alongside her leaving behind iceburgs in its wake. Dragons followed him as their king and alpha, yes but even without the presence of birds or other reptiles or mammals we can see the direct influence he has on the natural environment. He creates an ecological hub in his home with booming plant life that dips directly into the water and through the scene of there being so many fish around he’s quite able to feed hundreds of dragons simply by breathing in and shooting fish out a world has developed around him beyond dragons. By fish likely becoming attracted to his territory through the high agle count and ideal conditions.

He has an affect not only on the vegetation and climate but the formation of other animals populations, yes he was always going to die very few animals make it to die of old age but endangered species or not there were more bewilderbeasts out there. At least 3 with drago’s and the one on Beskserker island and the egg (we know the egg wasn’t Varka’s as she confirms the king was there when she first arrived 20 years ago). 3 other bewilderbeasts that wouldn’t have disappeared all of a sudden even if there eventual extinction had a great affect on the world. Which brings me to my key point here, eventual extinction. By now you’re probably thinking of dinosaurs and how Pangaea (the combined continent before the world began to split apart into multiple planes.) contained not only dinosaurs but many mega species. If mega species removal is so bad then how have we gone millions of years without them and been fine? I mean everyone knows the meator struck down thousands of dinosaur species. The key difference here is eventual extinction.

The important thing about dinosaurs and a large amount of them being whipped out is that they actually died, you didn’t force them out of their homes and territories to their “ancestral home”. They were gone. Just like how snow leopards evolved from an African variant of big cat, you can’t just drop em back into Africa and have everything be fine. They are intelligent creatures with thick, dense fur, and large soft paws adapted to their mountainous homes. Dragons are the same and we know that for a fact because we actually have cave dwelling dragon species like fireworms, cavern crashers and even nightfuryies. Dragons that can be on the surface but actively thrive in there. You cannot say the same for something like the flightmare, a dragon that must spend every day following its agle trail something it can only do under the moonlight to survive.

Forgive my bluntness but you aren’t saving a dragon like that from shit by forcing it underground, you’re condemning it to starvation. Which for a series supposedly about respecting differences and learning to reject the impulse of cruelty to the unknown is pretty damn cruel and spreads a message of inherent human right to determination over all. Which even if for some reason you don’t care that it affects our planet and every animal in it, humans would most definitely be included in that. Time and time again the presence of predators and prey alike being extinct being over-hunted or driven out of their homes due to climate change and human influence affects the world sometimes beyond repair. For a movie made in 2019 they absolutely knew that and should have thought about the message they were sending with that

Maybe the Barbaric Archipelago host an annual Thing and Viggo wanting an intel about the dragon riders (who are clearly from the Archipelago) managed to secure an invite via some other tribe.

He's there rubbing shoulders with Chiefs and heirs up when the Berk representative showed up. He doesn't know the Dragon Riders are from Berk yet.

He learned that:

Berk's Chief, Stoick the Vast is a 6'9ft giant weighing 400 pounds. A renown dragon killer and engaged dragons in hand to hand combat, no weapons or dragon root needed.

Their Viking adult initiation means the top student will fight a monstrous nightmare in a cage fight. (isn't that an execution method in other tribes? What do you mean initiation?)

The Chief's son is last year's winner, he didn't defeat the monstrous nightmare because he decided to go for something bigger. (What does that mean?)

Spitelout, one of Berk Chief's retinue bragged about his son acquiring the most Screaming Death scales out of his peers. And showed scales as evidence (Viggo's execution method literally involves pushing people into whispering death hole. What do you mean someone actually tunneled down there to steal some scales?)

Gobber mentioning that Spitelout's son use to be his apprentice in weapons testing. His apprentice (Snotlout) used to test catapults by launching himself to the sky to see if it works. (Which again sounds like an execution method.)

Gobber also complain about two troublemakers (Ruff and Tuff) who dedicated themselves to serving Loki. Which involves putting a cart of sharp objects on the apprentice's landing spot. (Which still sounds like a method of execution to him.)

There's also Astrid (that name sounds familiar) who was a strict drill sergeant who made everyone do push up until their hands fall off every time they mess up. (Not too bad compared to other things Viggo had heard.)

Look how completely natural this 32-year-old single man growing up with almost no family is with small children he has just met.

I firmly headcanon that somewhere between Oxford and his early years with the museum (rather than as a teenager, because it’s a very different experience as an adult), Milo babysat and was surprisingly great at it. Most likely it would have been for family of Lisa McGrath, the woman he briefly dated around age 23 according to the DVD timeline. Offering a quick extra hand with some young nephews or nieces one day might have led to discovering a skill he never guessed he would inherit from Thaddeus. The kids would have come to treasure his nature walks and blanket “tents” and all the random facts he’d excitedly impart as Lisa marveled at his dad instinct, making it all the harder on everyone when “Uncle” Milo went his own way. Now he finds himself walking beside someone new through her own home, meeting all her loved ones who react with curious delight. When even the littlest Atlanteans flock toward the charming stranger, those old feelings wash over him once more; and he joins in their fun and laughter as naturally as someone they’ve always known and loved. So this tyke suddenly getting a playful gesture from both the princess and her cool new friend must know they are in excellent hands all around.

The filmmakers clearly wanted us to see this side of Milo, and I am so glad they did. We rarely get such a sweet glimpse of Disney couple relating to the everyday community around them. I love that we have this image of a thriving kingdom where the children admire their new ruler not just at arm’s length—he’s family and their pal.
