Nautaelo are a blind, 2 to 4 winged(or finned) species that have regional forms/subspecies. Coloration, wing/fin number, size, magic abilities, and whether their hide is fur, feather, scale, or a mix, depends on where their species is located and adapted to regionally. There are 12 main regional species; highground, freshwater, Saltwater, tundra, taiga, wooded, temperate, grassland, desert, rainforest, wetland, and savanna. But there are many more subspecies and mixed species that live in multi regions. An example of a multi region would be the grand canyon. The grand canyon is a mix of highground and desert regions. so the nautaelo would reside in this area would be a mix of clifftailor, airtailor, calohabit, and any offspring the main regionals may have resulting and many subspecies in the area.
All Nautaelo are blind, but they can see with echolocation. Nautaelo have sensor quills/spines that run on the top of their head, back, tips of lower wing/fin, and tail. The quills allow them to see almost perfectly because each quill is constantly rubbing against other quills, to produce sound waves so the surrounding area can be picked up. Nautaelo all have a minimum of two or more large and long quills on the top of their head. Theses quills act like antennas for communication, in which nautaelo can produce a rattling by moving the quills quickly back and forth. similar to a cockatoo or cockatiel crest feathers, the quills on their head are used for conveying emotion, coordination for hunting, intimidation, or simply to get a better view of something. They cannot launch or βstingβ with their quills. Over time they naturally shed their quills, and will use them, along with feathers, scales, leaves, seaweed, coral, sticks, bones, and flowers, to make charms for their βmainesβ or to mark a colonies territory.
