its unbelievable how many amazing black performances of yesteryear are on film, but they're in sometimes relatively mid movies from like the 40s

however, the reason they were in the latter roles was because it was easier to cut their scenes out without impacting the story when these films were shown in the south. unless a black actor was shown as the help in the rest of the story, their scenes were almost always cut when distributed to jim crow states.
