i read a post on here that said how it’s funny how blatantly whitewashed rose is in the comics as opposed to cass, bc when you think about it, rose was CULTURALLY closer to her hmong/cambodian roots than cass ever was to her own heritage. rose spent the better part of her childhood in cambodia. yet you cant even tell she’s an asian woman. i’m exasperated by it.

rose SHOULD be drawn like cassandra cain is. she SHOULD rightfully have her mother’s thick dark brown hair. brown eyes. monolids. making her appear fully white for no reason is erasure. it’s erasure of her ethnicity and identity. it’s whitewashing plain and simple.

the way cass is drawn is almost stereotypically. actually, not almost. it IS stereotypically. She literally has YELLOW skin half the time. A lot of us asians, ESPECIALLY mixed asians have the double eye lid, and again, ESPECIALLY SOUTH EAST MIXED ASIANS.

And i think the juxtaposition with culture is an interesting thing? Yes, Rose is more involved with her Hmong roots and grew up in Cambodia, but that doesn’t at all affect how you grow up and look.

I WILL say that they could, yknow, delve more into Rose’s cultural practices, because you’re right, she did live in Cambodia, her appearance and looking more like Slade isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and the fact that you compare her to Cass, just really feels very monolithy.

its just constantly as a mixed asian person we’re seen as ‘not asian enough’ but like. we don’t owe you that, and not even a comic character can escape it.
