Kat Von D Pastel Goth palette

I snapped this up while I was on holiday since it made a surprise appearance at Debenhams and it arrived home the same day I did! I immediately ripped the package open and wept with joy. It’s so pretty! I’ve been using it a fair bit in IG looks plus since it’s “pastel” I can use it for pops of colour in everyday looks too! The formula is just as good as the other KVD palettes; buttery, smooth and pigmented, so good! I’m so glad I managed to get this!

Kiss Little Black Dress lashes

I wanted to try some new lashes out and I was drawn to these since they’re faux mink, plus Kiss make the best lash glue! I thought they’d be a little too dramatic for everyday looks but they’re actually perfect! I’ve been wearing them to work regularly and they’re so comfortable! Usually I feel like my lashes are stabbing me or they feel really heavy after wearing them for a while but I can barely feel these, plus they don’t touch my glasses!

Revolution peach lights

I know it’s not new and I’m pretty sure everyone talks about this on YouTube but the Peach Lights highlight from Revolution has been my go-to highlight for the past few months! I always reach for this when I’m getting ready and it works really well with my skin tone.

Freedom Bronzed Professional “Warm Lights”

I was immediately interested in this because it looks cool toned enough to work as a contour/bronzer for my skin tone. It’s super soft but not overly pigmented which means its really hard to put way too much on but it builds nicely into a natural bronzer.

I Heart Makeup Candy Queen of Hearts Blush

I’ve had this for a while but I never really reached for it until I recently decided to try it out again and I’ve just been using it everyday since! I don’t normally wear blush but this blends into my highlight really well and gives a nice natural glow without being too much!

nip + fab

I picked up the Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Cleansing pads (thanks Jamie!) a few weeks ago and I noticed my skin cleared up so quickly and it’s been really good lately ~touch wood~ so I decided to pick up the cleanser too to replace my non CF one and my skin feels so soft and smooth! I’ll definitely been picking up more of their skincare and I’m really excited to try out some of their makeup too!

Huge thanks to Belle Jorden for this recommendation! This mist is pretty much a Mac Fix + dupe and it’s so nice! I use it for shadows, getting rid of the powdery look on my skin, hydrating boosts and before I put my makeup on in the morning, I love it!

coconut oil

Okay a little vague, I know, but I watched a video (can’t remember who by) on how to fix extremely dry skin and they recommended a small layer of coconut oil. I had a huge tub lying around that I never used so I figured I’d give it a shot on my nose. My nose is super textured, scarred and extremely dry, and I noticed applying a small layer at night and in the morning made it look and feel so much better and makeup looks a lot better now!

Mikasa brushes

I already did a whole post on these but I’ve been using the Lemon Drop and F120 brush every day, absolutely love these! (I have a code toooooo: kelzgrayMUA25)

mua pearlescent sheen

This highlight oh my god. The colour is gorgeous, it shifts from white to blue and it shows up on my pasty skin, whats not to love! Actually, the packaging of my one I don’t love, I have to jam some scissors in there to get it to open since it’s really stiff… Probably just that one since all the other shades I have don’t have that problem.

CoLab dry shampoo

I wanted to try these for a while since I they’re cruelty free (I’m still not sure on Batiste) and they were on offer so I picked 2 up to give them a go and they’re really nice! I hate washing my hair, gross I know but I have coloured hair and there’s a lot of it so it’s just irritating to dry plus I have dry hair anyway so it doesn’t get greasy quickly, plus it’s so much healthier than washing it everyday. I can usually go about 3-6 days between washes but I do love a good dry shampoo. I’ve tried some great ones and I’ve tried some crappy ones but I’m pleased to find that these are really nice! They don’t give a white cast and they smell really nice! Definitely stocking up while they’re on offer!

I tried this hack after hearing a few people (cannot remember for the life of me who though) YouTubers talking about it and thought it sounded perfect! Have you ever taken your glasses off for a picture (to avoid the dreaded flash reflection) only to find the bridge of your nose is now a blotchy mess? Then you feel my pain. I also remember some guy I used to work with asking to see me without my glasses and finding the awkward blotch hilarious! (because obviously I would take off my glasses and become a completely different person just like in the movies which is almost always followed by “oh my god you look so much better/prettier without glasses you should get contacts/laser eye surgery!” (I’m also gonna go on a tangent here I do apologise but please for the love of all that is holy DO NOT say that to someone who needs glasses. Contacts are uncomfortable for some people and some of us can’t wear them for other reasons, and suggesting someone gets lasers beamed into their eyeballs because you think they look better without the frames that literally require them to see is just rude. Okay I’m done, sorry.)

…Where was I? Oh right, so I don’t typically use eye primer (I just use concealer for my eyeballs) but I do have the Nyx Glitter Primer which was recommended in one of the videos so I gave that a shot. It didn’t work.

Just for reference: here’s the style of glasses I wear.

Okay so I applied the glitter primer before I put on my foundation then set it with a powder, same as always. About half an hour later I noticed that it was already rubbing; not a great start.

I carried on with my day as usual, went to work for a few hours, watched YouTube, played video games, yadda yadda all the good stuff, didn’t touch my face or glasses (at least that I’m aware of, I did notice they didn’t slide down as much so that’s a plus!) and 6 hours later, boom. Blotch.

Sad times. I would love to be able to skip foundation/concealer on my nose but since it’s a lot more textured and red than the rest of my face it looks really weird when I do. I’ve tried this a few times now but it doesn’t seem to want to work for me, I’ll try it with a legit eye primer to see if it makes a difference but for now this hack was a fail for me.

Any suggestions for primers to try or other hacks for glasses? Lemme know!

So Superdrug have an offer where if you spend £12+ on Revolution products you get a free Love the Revolution palette! I wanted to try the Lip Kits for a while so I grabbed Reign (it was the only shade my store had when I bought everything, although after that we got them all in) as well as the Peach Lights highlight since I’ve heard only good things about it! I also really wanted to pick up the Strobe palette because it’s so pretty! Annoyingly the colours won’t pick up very well on my camera but the swatches show just how gorgeous they are! I’ve tried some of the stuff so I can do a review on them if people want? I have quite a lot of Revolution stuff (joy of 30% discount! 😍) so I can do a full brand review too if wanted! (I already have strong feelings on the Lip Kit…)

I needed a new glitter glue and I heard that the Nyx Glitter Primer was great and it is, it’s amazing! I bought a new pair of The Interview lashes from TCOL as well as thier new The Felicia lashes! The Interview are my all time favourites and the Felicia lashes are so long and fluffy they’re perfect for dramatic looks! I also picked up the new-ish GOSH fibre mascara, if you read my review on the l’oreal fibre mascara then you’ll understand my apprehension, but it hasn’t caused me any pain yet so that’s a good sign! I’ll update if my eyeball falls out! 😉 I can’t remember if I already posted about this but I re-purchased the Tattoo Liner but in full size as well as Lolita liquid lipstick! I was torn between Bow n Arrow or Lolita but I’m glad I picked Lolita since it’s literally like my lip shade but better! Although I’ll probably get Bow n Arrow anyway! I finally managed to get my hands on Sugarpill’s Trinket! IT’S SO PRETTY! 😍

As I mentioned before I’ve been wanting to go cruelty-free for a while now so I wanted to exclusively pick up some cruelty-free goodies! I am in the process of using up all of my current non-CF products and switching them all for CF! (NOTE: I do believe Smashbox are cruelty-free (they no longer sell in china) but after doing research I know there are conflicting opinions.)

I picked up the new Nyx Ultimate Brights palette a couple of weeks ago and wanted to share my quick review on it!

My main reason for buying this palette was because I assumed it was an all matte palette because I only saw it online (completely my bad, I didn’t look at the pictures close up I just grabbed it), kind of a bummer but I’m still happy I picked it up! I believe there are 4 Ultimate palettes but since I love bright colours I instantly popped this in my basket! I ordered it from Boots and it was £16. This is my first time trying Nyx shadows so I was really excited to try this out!

The palette is a hard black plastic case with a clear front, I think all Nyx shadows are like that, and it feels fairly thick. I do feel like it’s a little wobbly and it can be kind of a pain to open, but I’m not worried about the lid popping off or anything!

I feel like the more vibrant colours have better payoff than the more “pastel” shades but all of the shadows are good quality and blend out well! All of the shades feel really soft and the shimmer shades don’t feel gritty or hard at all.

dupes?

I wanted to see how the palette compared to my Morphe 12P and 35B palettes but to be honest I only found a few dupes from each palette and only a few are similar enough to be considered legit dupes. The Nyx palette doesn’t have a white or black shade, whereas both the Morphe ones do, and the 12P palette is fully matte.

So as you can see there not exact dupes, and I couldn’t find a dupe for every shade in the palette.

I really do love this palette and I’m really happy I picked it up! If you love bright colours then you’ll probably really love this palette!

So I bought the Revolution palette first then planned to pick up the Kat Von D palette to compare but annoyingly there was a large gap between buying them (I got the KVD palette for Christmas) so this is a long-awaited post for me!

The price point is obviously the biggest difference between these palettes but is that the only one?

PACKAGING

The thing that immediately stood out to me about the Rev0lution palette was how similar it looked to the KVD one (the KVD palette came out in early 2015 and the Revolution palette was released around September 2016). They layout is exactly the same and the name is literally the same just flipped. Kat Von D always has beautiful intricate artwork on her products, she is a tattoo artist after all, whereas Revolution has always had plain black packaging. The Revolution palette is a hard plastic case and the KVD palette is a hard board kind of material (I honestly cannot think of the right word right now but you know what I mean, I hope). The KVD palette comes with a mirror but no brush and the Revolution palette has no mirror but comes with a double ended brush, as does some of their other palettes.

SWATCHES

The formula in each palette is completely different; the KVD palette is smooth and buttery but the Revolution one is a little on the chalkier side. As you can see the shades are pretty similar so this is definitely a dupe but there is quite a difference in quality.

I’m not gonna lie and say I know what all of that means but I figured it’s important somehow. The palette 14g and has a 12-month “shelf life” (I couldn’t think of the right word so that will do!).

The back of the KVD palette:

There isn’t an ingredient list on the actual palette but there is on the box, I, however, am an idiot and I lost the damn box… so no comparisons for that annoyingly. The shade names are printed on the back which I really like and everything is listed in English and French.This palette also has a 12-month shelf life.

Both palettes and brands are cruelty-free but I’m not 100% sure if these specific palettes are Vegan.

Both of the palettes perform well and I like using them both, but I find working with the Kat Von D palette a lot easier as it blends quicker.

My personal opinion

I really do like both palettes but you can’t beat the quality of Kat Von D in my eyes. If you want the same shades but don’t want to pay KVD prices then I recommend getting the MUR one, but I personally see palettes as investments since I use them so often and they last a long enough time for the price to be worth it! I do own a lot (seriously a lot, I think about 15-20 maybe?) MUR palettes and they’re always good quality and really nice so I do recommend picking this up if you don’t wanna splurge!

How do you feel about this dupe?

I’ve actually been apprehensive about buying this because I’m trying to avoid brands that still test on animals, but since I work in a “drug store” I kind of have to try new releases to recommend them but I’m not comfortable supporting non-cruelty-free products. I’ll talk more about that in an upcoming post but for now, let’s just talk about my initial impressions with this mascara.

BEFORE

Before I go into it: my natural lashes suck, and that’s my fault for wearing falsies all the time and ruining them. They fall super straight and cannot hold a curl. (Here they’re fully curled)

ONE COAT OF PRIMER (SIDE 1)

From this point, it went downhill. My lashes fell instantly and didn’t gain any length at all. I soldiered on and applied the fibres, though, I don’t know what I was hoping for but oh well.

ONE COAT OF FIBRES (SIDE 2)

Nope. No, thank you. I do not like this. It looked messy, got all over my lid and lower lash line (I’m not even sure how that happened, to be honest with you) and it burned so bad! I got a tiny bit of the “fibres” on my tight line and I felt like my eye was going to fall out! I know most mascaras suck the first time you use them but honestly I’m terrified to try this again! I didn’t try building layers because I just wanted to get it off of my eyeball, and luckily it came off really easily with Micellar water.

I don’t like doing negative reviews/first impressions but I really had high hopes for this and it was so disappointing! I personally don’t recommend this but if you like how it looks then go for it! I’ll be sticking to my falsies though! ♥

Sorry for the moany useless post!

I knew as soon as Sugarpill announced they were releasing a Pumpkin Spice liquid lipstick to go with their Shadow that I needed them both in my life! I literally had an alarm set for when it went live and I grabbed the duo as soon as it was available! I wanted to do a review of these sooner but I wanted to play with them a bit first to get my opinion right, but luckily they’re still available in the duo and separately!

PUMPKIN SPICE LIQUID LIP COLOUR

This is the first Sugarpill lip product I’ve tried and I love it! I really wanted a lipstick this colour (I refuse to buy the J* pumpkin shade) so when they revealed this I was ecstatic! It smells like pumpkin spice (yum) and the formula is really comfortable. It does take a little bit of layering to get it to the opacity that I like but it doesn’t feel heavy or drying at all! I really love this product, it’s definitely in my top 10!

PUMPKIN SPICE PRESSED EYESHADOW

When I first got this I wasn’t entirely sure how to use it, to be honest. I don’t know what I was expecting as I don’t own any shadows with this texture (metallic). It was a bit chunkier than I expected but it’s still soft. I first tried to use it as a lid colour with a flat brush but I found it to be messy and it had quite a bit of fallout, but I then used it as an inner corner highlight with a fluffier brush and it worked fine with barely any fallout! I really do love this product but I do recommend if you get it (or have it) to please for the love of all that is holy be careful with it! It fell off my eyeshadow shelf and broke a couple of days ago and my heart shattered with it 😭 It only broke in half and it’s still useable, I just have to be careful it doesn’t fall apart! To be fair, it does say to be careful with it on their website so my bad!

Due to the nature of metallic pigments, this eyeshadow is slightly more delicate than others. Avoid dropping from 2nd story windows. (x)

Considering they claim that international shipping could take 2-6 weeks I was pleasantly surprised when I got it before Christmas! This was my first time ordering directly from the Sugarpill website, normally I order from love-makeup or cocktail cosmetics but this collection was exclusive to Sugarpill.com. The customs and shipping costs makes me a little apprehensive about ordering from there again but if they release another collection like this then I probably will!

   Super sad that Over The Moon arrived broken but it’s all there and still usable so it’s not the end of the world, still kind of a bummer though since it’s so stunning! I got Prenup, which I was expecting to be super dark and not suit me but it’s a really pretty pale pink! I’m terrible at picking blush colours for my skin since I don’t really wear it so this was a leap of faith really! Churro. Oh my god, Churro. It’s sooooo goooooooooooood! I won’t be able to use it as a highlight but it’s so gorgeous I’ll probably be using it every day on my eyes and, to be honest, how could I not grab something called Churro?? Monster is so lovely, I prefer highlights with pink shifts so this is probably going to be a new favourite!

I don’t know what exactly I was expecting but I certainly wasn’t expecting them to be so soft! I almost felt bad for swatching them and ruining the perfect patterns! I’m not sure how they’ll transfer to face and eyes, as I feel like brushes aren’t going to work very well, I’ll have a play and do an update soon!

Speaking of brushes; they were offering a free brush when you bought 2 shadows so I picked the flat one!

Since I loved the 2 Lippie Stix I bought last time, I wanted to buy a bolder colour this time plus with Christmas literally right around the corner my god where has the time gone, a lovely deep red seemed like the perfect choice! I chose Poison, I have no idea if it will suit me but it feels really lovely and opaque! I also ordered an Ultra Satin Lip instead of a matte because I heard they were really good, and again I went for a red: London Fog. This one is more of a classic bright red, again, no idea if it’ll suit me but time will tell!

I was really worried they wouldn’t arrive before Christmas but they did, yaaay!

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops

So when I first heard of these I heard mixed reviews, one was “it’s amazing, it’ll lighten anything without changing the formula!” and “it lightens but it changes the formula” so I was a little confused. My experience with Body Shop makeup has been a little hit and miss but I figured for £10 I could afford to give it a try!

THE PROS

I found that it doesn’t change the formula of anything I mix it with at all!

It’s an off white cream colour so it lightens to a more natural colour rather than looking too “ghostly”.

It’s a really creamy texture so it blends well.

You can mix it with pretty much anything; I’ve mixed it into a pot of foundation to lighten the whole thing, concealer tubes, cream makeup etc.

THE CONS

The dropper. Oh my god, the bloody dropper. It doesn’t pick much product up if any at all unless I’m just being dumb and not using it properly?? (I just checked my new bottle and I think I may have got a dud because the new one works okay!)

The dropper is also way too short. I had about 1/4th product left in the bottle which I couldn’t get out which just felt like a giant waste of product to me.

Although the first 3 don’t look like drastic changes it makes a world of difference to me when it makes me face match my neck! I only added 1 drop of the lightener in each of these swatches to show you how powerful the stuff is! The Maybelline Fit Me is in the lightest shade available to me, give me a minute to laugh at that please ahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha, okay done. (I’m assuming there are lighter shades but I can’t find them anywhere) So I added about 3 drops to this one and you can see just how drastic the change is! Still not light enough for me but it’s a start! PS I bought this online so I couldn’t swatch it beforehand and we can’t return makeup so I’m stuck with it wooo!

CONCLUSION

Would I buy this again? Yes, I already have. The only complaint I have is the dropper but other than that it’s a magical product which broadens my foundation horizons!

If you have problems matching your foundations/concealers then I definitely recommend picking this up, I can’t say about the darkener because I haven’t tried it, but if it’s the same formula then it is probably just as good!

I haven’t used this foundation since they changed the bottle, did they change the formula too? I can’t remember, but I was suckered into the whole “find your true match” thing and picked it up again. I like it! I need to lighten it a tiny bit to match my neck but it’s the closest match I’ve found so far! Although I have noticed that my skin has started to break out a tiny but I’m not sure if that’s because of the foundation or other reasons, I’ll update when I figure it out!

I got this when I picked up the foundation & primer (which I forgot to take a picture of, whoops!), I haven’t tried this mascara before but I like it from my first impression!

Collection Glam Crystals Liner “Pow!”

These also sell out super fast so I grabbed this when I saw it in stock! The glitter dries really quick and looks so pretty! Once the glitter fades the actual blue liner last for ages! It has a really thin brush so you can get a really precise line! I used it in this look!

Barry M Dazzle Dust in Crimson

How pretty is this?? I plan on doing a Christmassy/cold/chilled look with this so keep an eye on my Instagram for that! I’ve used their dazzle dust before and they’re really good so I’m excited to try this!

I thought I’d try these out while I was buying the Shade Adjusting drops as I’d heard good things! From the swatches, they feel more “moussey” than a traditional liquid lipstick and it doesn’t dry down much, although it does feel like it won’t dry my lips out! I’ll do a full review when I’ve played with them a little more!
