#1 (above) Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in GNP6 Prickly Pear and Dior Vernis Opalescent Top Coat in 001 Opal.
#2 Barry M Limited Edition Nail Paint in GNP80 Icing Sugar and Leighton Denny Nail Polish in Star Dust.
You may not remember but in 2024, I decided to document my manicures throughout the year. Whilst nothing major has really happened (health-wise), I am finding I'm less and less able to do what I used to. Days turn into weeks, which turn into months and I realise I've done absolutely nothing. My shoe challenge last year took priority, so the manicure posts were paused.
I did still take photos of what I wore and bought nail swatch sticks (I've found the internet is a weird place when it comes to nails), so I want to catch you up. There's not a lot, as I haven't felt up to doing my nails either (determined this month to do the Christmas manicure I wanted last year). So here's my May 2024 manicures (there was nothing in April and we left off in March here).
#1 I've always really liked Barry M Nail Paints, but I'm not a fan of the Gelly Hi Shine. The first coat is always terrible, no matter the colour I'm wearing; patchy, streaky, weak in colour. The second coat massively improves and evens things out and in the end it turns out alright, but I feel it takes effort when the original Nail Paints were always stellar performance-wise. I wore Opal (Spring 2022) so much when it first came out (Dior are usually my choice of sparkling or iridescent top coat tbh), it provided a lovely, subtle pink sheen over the lilac (completely smooth). Overall that's how I'd describe this look; subtle, but also soft and pretty.
#2 I forgot all about this one until I looked back my swatches. The silver if I remember correctly was a one-coat wonder (from the advent calendar a few years ago). I photographed the bottle up close, it looks like liquid mercury. The glitter top coat I got years ago and is so much more impressive in person than in photos. It needs direct light hitting it though, as it's proper disco-ball-like with rainbow reflects in the glitter (which I can only photograph when it's slightly out of focus-above left). I was in the mood for OTT sparkling, glittery nails, but in ordinary light, they weren't that impressive tbh.
*I always use Barry M Green Origin Base & Top Coat (as a base) and would never be without Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat*
Why is it whenever I take a selfie, I only realise that my fringe I'd slowly taking over my face? 😂 I'm coming to the end of my 6 day's working in a row which is probably why I look so exhausted!
I would definitely recommend against this Barry M Peel It! basecoat I decided to try the last time I did my nails.
At least unless the "It!" you're looking to peel off includes the top layer of your actual nails. 🤨
(Yeah, I am aware that thumb cuticle is pretty jacked up. Trying to just leave it alone now, with my picking problem and the stress levels lately. 🙄 One reason I try to keep something on my nails, tbh.)
Anyway, other than the little bit of dark staining that was already there? My nails were in pretty decent shape before removing that stuff last night. That thumb is the worst, but none of them are looking great now.
Usually I don't want to thin out my natural nails with buffing, but it's honestly probably a good plan regardless to gently try and smooth that shit out a little.
I actually bought a different brand of peel off base mostly to use for another purpose, and I may try that when I hopefully get around to doing another polish job tonight. Almost hesitant now, but I guess we'll see!

The season for glitter and autumn colours ........
Hi guys,
Something I always like to do when I’m having a meh day is my nails! Sounds kinda lame I know but painting my nails really relaxes me and makes me feel good so when I saw the autumn colour range from Barry M I decided to treat myself (also there was also a buy one get one free offer so even better).
This autumn they released new shades with the crystal rock formula which basically gives your nails a glitter textured finish. I love the colours this time around. We start off with a metallic silver glitter which is beautiful for a sparkly nude vibe. Then I picked up the two blues in this collection one is a dark navy shade the other is a gorgeous bright blue shade, I tend to pair these two shades together and it makes the glitter really pop. Now of course it wouldn’t be a autumn collection without some type of red glitter colour, this one is gorgeous because it’s more of a coral red shade. And lastly I got a emerald green shade which is by far my favourite shade!!! It’s such a gorgeous green shade that is so autumnal I’m so excited to get lots of use of that colour.
I adore glitter nail polishes so much so when I saw these on instagram I headed straight to Superdrug’s website and probably got a little carried away but honestly they were so worth it! As simple as it sounds glitter nails really makes me feel glam and good and if there is one thing I have learnt from 2020 it’s do what makes you feel good. Check out the range on Barry M’s website and Superdrug / boots drugstore locations.
