And, finally...

I posted the final chapter of this yesterday!!! PLEASE GO READ IT!!!!:

im just gonna ramble out my ideas so YAY :))

Backstory: James is a year younger than Harold, being 16 in the canon of ABH. The two of them grew up together and were considerably close, basically being like siblings even when they each had their own bio ones. They were close enough to the point that Harold was the first and only one to know about James being trans (ik they didnt have the words for that then, but idk the right term for the time period). And then they get older and Harold went off to war. James was already nihilistic enough with everything else, so he was convinced that Harold would die and they'd never see each other again.

During canon: James got brought to the tube during the blitz like everyone else. Lost his entire family and dog, the whole deal. He spends time down there, reclused on his cot and just waiting to die. And then one day, Harold gets there. Now James can't believe it. he's in disbelief to the point of not asking if it's really him for a while. He only finds out when Harold is doing his usual spouting off of nothing and says his name, which leads James to try and talk to him. It doesn't go too well the first few times, especially while he's still getting used to the tube and what his home had become and all that PTSD stuff, but they do end up reconnecting. James is just so protective of him. He never puts up with anyone being rude to him. Over all, they get their sibling bond back pretty quickly, given the circumstances.

Just before canon/James relationships with the others in the tube:

Tabitha and him never talked much before Harold got there, but they did have more conversations after. Mostly just general Tabitha advice. She keeps a close eye on them both, mostly James, because she knows what its like to find a sibling and then lose them. So she's both happy for them and jealous that she can't get her sister back.

He and Mamie (Clarissa, for those who haven't read the book) and him do NOT get along. Not only is she not afraid to make fun of Harold, but she's also just APAULED that a 'girl' would wear PANTS and cut their hair SHORT. Oh, the horror!

Dodgy is basically in the same boat as Mamie, constantly making fun of both him and Harold. They get alone a little better than him and Mamie, but hardly.

He doesn't talk to Alice, if he can avoid it, but admires how passionate she is.

He pities Nigel, but that's about it.

Aside from Harold, the only person he really gets along with is Angus. He can overlook his...general being him...and addiction since he doesn't act like he hates him and has stories to pass the time.
