BYLER CAN & IS LIKELY TO STILL HAPPEN

Here's why:

- While yes, they didn't do it "right" with just Joyce and Mike like even I expected, I think Will took a tactical thing cause he already believes his feelings are unreciprocated so he laid it all out in front of everyone as to not have secrets when facing Vecna. Very brave move.

- Now this was the 80 ish as a timeline in the show right? It would be hard for him (especially when believing Mike is straight) to just straight out also confess who he likes TO THE PERSON and many others and so he

- down played it for the same reason cause he's not gonna freaking say "I've been in love with someone for years". Especially since the people there have a high chance of knowing who that person is (small town) so he played it off as just a crush.

- And lastly on Mike's reaction (and now that I've finished Supernatural before vol 2 I call this the post Destiel dying - Dean reaction effect) : when Cas dies after he confesses to Dean, Dean is taken aback and can't move or answer Sam's call because he didn't have time to process this between it being said and him immediately losing Cas. SIMILARLY (although Mike doesn't know who Will likes).. we have Will coming out as gay before a huge fight mobilization while Mile has no time to process what is happening. Here something beautiful can take place because Mike is likely also in the closet so seeing Will come out gave him something to think about - courage to maybe accept this in himself, a likely powerful nudge in his feelings towards Will that no friend would have unless romantic undertone (the Will voice Mile uses is my strongest link this byler discourse), is a positive movement for him to have a way to make a move once said realization happens.

BONUS:

(and this isn't shade to milevens - i just think a bi el with the current "we'll both be in the wormhole sacrificing ourselves" situation would be a welcome thing in my opinion... plus el deserves someone who gives more of a shit about her than mike which has honestly been kali in my eyes since long ago but discussions on my crack hopeful kaly x el ship are to be had in other posts)

THE VERY FACT that el realized kali was right and agreed to self sacrifice with her is a big hint at mike and el very likely not being endgame which would also be a push to the whole byler situation. kinda hope it won't cost me el to see byler tho but alas... (again hope her and kali go on their own little arc or something open ended)

Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.

And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"

That's kinda hard to come by in middle age.

They were lucky.
