all queer history on here is just US-American or maybe sometimes some UK history as well and it makes me sad that thereâs so little information about other countriesâ queer history on here :(
@makingqueerhistory has some diversity, as of historical queer people, and theyâre doing a great job, but thereâs a lot of work ahead.Â
OP is definitely right, there still is a huge gap in the discussions of queer history, and thank you for recommending us!
This isnât perfect, and many of these only have one article, but here is our list of countries we have written about. We are hoping to one day have at least one article for every country in the world but as @every-book-has-a-secret there is a lot of work still to do.
Europe
Albania Austria Belgium Czechia Czech Republic Denmark England Finland France Germany Greece Hungary Ireland Italy Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania Russia Scotland Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland

Of course! Glad we could help!
Definitely check out: @queerasfact they are really epic group of Australian historians so they profile a lot of Aussies but also profile queer people from around the world.
Australians PSA - we have a Queer Bushranger, you may not have heard of him but he existed. itâs very cool and fascinating.
Thanks for mentioning us! We also have a list of our podcast episodes by country if you want to check those out.

A lot of people ask me what my biggest fear is, or what scares me most. And I know they expect an answer like heights, or closed spaces, or people dressed like animals, but how do I tell them that when I was 17 I took a class called Relationships For Life and I learned that most people fall out of love for the same reasons they fell in it. That their loverâs once endearing stubbornness has now become refusal to compromise and their one track mind is now immaturity and their bad habits that you once adored is now money down the drain. Their spontaneity becomes reckless and irresponsible and their feet up on your dash is no longer sexy, just another distraction in your busy life. Nothing saddens and scares me like the thought that I can become ugly to someone who once thought all the stars were in my eyes.
this fucks me up every single time
I never expected this to be my most popular poem out of the hundreds Iâve written. I was extremely bitter and sad when I wrote this and I left out the most beautiful part of that class.
After my teacher introduced us to this theory, she asked us, âis love a feeling? Or is it a choice?â We were all a bunch of teenagers. Naturally we said it was a feeling. She said that if we clung to that belief, weâd never have a lasting relationship of any sort.
She made us interview a dozen adults who were or had been married and we asked them about their marriages and why it lasted or why it failed. At the end, I asked every single person if love was an emotion or a choice.
Everybody said that it was a choice. It was a conscious commitment. It was something you choose to make work every day with a person who has chosen the same thing. They all said that at one point in their marriage, the âfeeling of loveâ had vanished or faded and they werenât happy. They said feelings are always changing and you cannot build something that will last on such a shaky foundation.
The married ones said that when things were bad, they chose to open the communication, chose to identify what broke and how to fix it, and chose to recreate something worth falling in love with.
The divorced ones said they chose to walk away.
Ever since that class, since that project, I never looked at relationships the same way. I understood why arranged marriages were successful. I discovered the difference in feelings and commitments. Iâve never gone for the person who makes my heart flutter or my head spin. Iâve chosen the people who were committed to choosing me, dedicated to finding something to adore even on the ugliest days.
I no longer fear the day someone who swore I was their universe can no longer see the stars in my eyes as long as they still choose to look until they find them again.
This is so fucking important and I think itâs something I needed right now

Like I hate to be this person, but why arenât we taught that slavery was genocide? why arenât we taught that colonialization was genocide. There are whole tribes and cultures that do not exist anymore because of slavery and colonization. 24 MILLION INDIGENOUS PEOPLE DIED DURING THE SPANISH CONQUEST! 60 MILLION BLACK PEOPLE DIED DURING THE SLAVE TRADE (that isnât even counting the black people of African diaspora during slavery and even after). Millions of black/brown people died and no one even understands it. That shit IS genocide, and the fact that weâre not taught that it is, the fact that things like colonization ARE praised in classes just appalls me. Slavery and colonization done to black/brown people IS genocide. And the fact that no one is telling us that what happened to our ancestors is genocide and expecting us to forget it, speaks volumes abt how white societies view the complete eradication of brown/black people. Our genocides donât matter to them.
edit: reblog this post without being condescending, upitty or superior to americansâmainly black and brown americans. yes we know our education system sucks. but when iâm talking abt a tragedy my people face, then i am not trying to hear how superb non-americanâs school systems are, and how much smarter yâall are than us. please have empathy lmao.Â
sometimes i think about gay people who lived centuries ago who thought they were all alone who imagined a world where they could live openly as themselves who met in secret spoke in code defied everything and everyone just to exist and iâm like..i gotta sit down. whew i gotta sit down
this is why this sappho fragment hits me so hard
This
This shit just made me tear up
You grow up and you realise A Bugâs Life was the revolutionary Leftist masterpiece of our childhoods
Iâm not even slightly kidding
Ants are the workforce doing the labour needed to survive, and they have to do it twice over to provide for both themselves and for a group of parasites who do nothing but consume the labour of others
The ants work themselves near to death trying to stay afloat
The grasshoppers donât even need any food. They have tons to spare but still insist on taking the food the ants worked for because they âdeserveâ it, despite actually contributing nothing of value. The only reason this works is by threatening ants with force and degrading them so they feel weak and worthless, and insisting that the grasshoppers deserve a cut for some vague service they claim to provide to society
In reality Hopper is desperate to stop the ants from thinking for themselves, keeping them ignorant of the fact that he has subjugated ants through threats of power while the ants actually overpower the grasshoppers through sheer numbers.
And should the ants ever realise that the grasshoppers take from them while providing nothing and that revolution is possible, the class system theyâve installed will be finished.

The face Milhouse made haunted me for years. I donât know what it is about that grimace that branded itself upon me but⌠it stuck. It stuck with me for years.
Even now, I feel a certain coldness
because its based on this picture of a French man watching the Nazis march into Paris in 1940
my biology professor has such a chaotic energy about him, last week i went to his office hours and somehow we ended up on the topic of gay marriage:
he said that when he lived in texas they changed the law to define marriage as âbetween a man and a woman in a house of religious worship with the intention to have childrenâ so he filed his taxes as single and when they called him up like âyou filed married last yearâ he was like âyou changed the law, i was married by a judge in a courthouse and i have no intention of having kidsâ and they told him âyou know who that law was forâ and i guess he hung up on them and did not, in fact, pay taxes as a married man that year
Chaotic good
NO! This is Lawful Good! He is following the LAW! Chaotic doesn't just mean cheeky!
this is like how Sweden stopped classifying homosexuality as an illness because people started a campaign of calling in gay to work
malicious compliance is one of the best tools in the arsenal of civil rights activism
I donât even go here but Iâm still so angry about what happened to Hunger Games. The CLEAR allegories and political messages that were swept to the side and/or completely ignored in favor of a cool sci-fi dystopia story and a love triangle. The casting of a white adult Katniss. The REMOVAL of all (or nearly all) disabilities from the movies. How every fucking YA book jumped on the hot new trend of Rebel Girl Against Evil Society yet NONE of them managed to grasp that the Hunger Games dystopia wasnât MADE UP based on some bullshit Hogwarts House sorting type system. And it wasnât some bullshit teenage wish fulfillment fantasy about being Special and teenagers being The Only Smart Ones but rather Katniss is caught up in a groundswell movement that is so much BIGGER THAN HER. How when the movies came out corporate America started making fashion & beauty âCapitolâ lines in a hilariously devastating display of irony. How nobody liked Mockingjay because it was âtoo darkâ as though that wasnât PRECISELY the point. How Katniss Herself was written off as though sheâs just a Mary Sue action hero and she was âannoyingâ and not uniquely gifted because she had STRUGGLED and STARVED and learned how to survive the hard way and she was ANGRY. It basically inspired a new genre and yet all of these books were so pale and uninspired in comparison and the movies though they largely follow the plot somehow STILL managed to miss the point and the whole message was lost because of both these things.

trans men deserve to be safe. trans men deserve partners who love them and don't abuse them. trans men deserve to have sex lives without the threat of assault. trans men deserve access to lgbt spaces. trans men deserve better and more comprehensive medical care. trans men deserve resources that are for trans men only. trans men deserve respect and bodily autonomy when I comes to reproductive decision-making. that's the post
