Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.

cadash being able to dream because of the anchor, not knowing how to dream, even, and solas, visiting her in these dreams in harmless forms to see what it is exactly she will dream about--- an experiment of sorts. what will a dwarf conjure up in their sleeping hours when they can? where will they go?
and then he is confronted with the fact that among the visages of the people she has met so far, he is in every one of them. that, more often than not, her dreams are simply images of his eyes while he looks to the sky, or the way his ears catch the sunlight on the plain, or the movement of his hands when casting a spell, all surrounded by echoes of his words, his voice poignant and precise. beautiful recreations of moments stolen when he wasnt paying attention, each one more reverent than the last. a creature that has discovered escaping to the Fade in their sleep for the first time, having the opportunity to explore its rich environments and histories, and yet she is content merely to bask in the memories of him.

You exhale raggedly as you continue your climb up the crumbling skeleton of stairs that runs along the mountainside. When it seems as though your thighs cannot take another step and your lungs wheeze unevenly with each new breath, you reach a landing. You collapse to the ground. After a moment's rest, you right yourself with trembling limbs - only to find yourself facing a skeleton, its lower jaw dropped in a silent scream. You scramble backwards, your back hitting a jagged rock jutting from the mountainside. You cower against the stone, your fear surpassing the sharp flare of pain, but the skeleton does not move. It sits slumped by the edge of the landing. A ragged cloak pools around the bones of its body and clutched in its lap in a bony grip is a book.
The book slides from its grasp easily. The binding is a dark green leather - plain with no embellishments or markings. Two copper clasps keep it closed, but there is no way to unlock them or open the book it seems. You run a finger along the cool metal as you shuffle backwards, keeping a wary eye on the skeleton. Its empty sockets stare back at you.
Codex Entry: A Book Without Title
Material: Simple leather binding with no title and an ornamental clasp with no visible way to unlock and open the book
This object is not for use in combat.
A plain leather book. The visible page edges appear to be simple parchment. An intricate and ornamental clasp keeps the book closed, but there is no keyhole or visible way to unlock the clasp. To unlock the book you must whisper it a secret.
Once opened the pages appear blank, but ask the book a question aloud, and it shall be answered in the reader's own mind. But beware for the cost of knowledge is a memory.
The book takes no physical toll from the reader apart from the snatches of memory it takes. Yet the more it is used, the more the hunger for knowledge grows within the reader.
The reader will be compelled to continue asking questions. The craving for knowledge will become insatiable until the reader has no memory left to offer.
Without memory, no knowledge can be gained.
The reader will wander, aimless and without memory, protecting the book with no knowledge of how to open it or what it is until it is taken from them or until death.
A secret, long-forgotten comes to mind. You run your finger along the copper clasp again, the pad of one fingertip catching on the sharp point of one end. What knowledge lies in this book? Might it help you find what you seek?
You are faced with a choice. Do you:
β‘ Share a secret with the book and see what lies within its pages
β‘ Return the book to its previous owner

For day 4 of @evanurisweek is DIRTHAMEN :D I mentioned in the previous entry that the twins are my favorites, and this really is true. Dirthamen's object is the most simple, but by far the most compelling to me. I think the concept that I landed on is so interesting and makes me rub my hands together and cackle whenever I think about it >:)
Design wise, I just have a few notes. Kept similar colors to Falon'din's object so that we had a throughline between the twins. Also, the claspssspspspsps (plural of the word clasp seems fake to me idk why) look like Dirthamen's vallaslin :)))) i was struggling with how to do an "ornamental clasp" while sticking with the pretty simple visual concepts I was aiming for in this series and this feels like it hit a nice sweet spot !
Sharing a secret to open the book. Nothing being on the pages. Losing a memory to gain knowledge. Being the bearer of the book with no memory of who you are or what the book is but carrying it with you until you die or its taken from you DELICIOUS IM EATING IT UP
I honestly just love the twins so so so so much :)) when I was doing the planning for Dirthamen, he had BY FAR the most amount of object I was thinking could be interesting to associate with him. A cloak, a key, a ring, a mask, etc. but ultimately I like this unassuming book I went with :D
You stand before a tomb. It is not a building - rather, it is carved into the side of the mountain. The wind whistles around you, whipping your cloak against your body. The ledge you stand on hangs above a steep drop of jagged rock that disappears back into the valley. The entrance to the tomb is unassuming. There is no ornamentation carved into the stone - no intricate facade or metal embellishment. Only an open doorway and the words "Enter, Friend" carved above. You step inside, and the harsh whistle of the winds quiets immediately. It is dark and cold, yet it does not feel unwelcome. The room is small with only a stone coffin set into an alcove that has been carved from the mountain. A line of unlit, melted candle stubs sits in front of the coffin. The floor is covered in a clean layer of freshly dried grass. In the corner, a ragged yet neatly folded blanket rests next to a small chest.
The chest holds a few unused candles, a small flint, and a bulbous glass lantern. The glass of the lantern is uneven and dark, as though dirtied with a thick layer of soot. The handle is a simple copper hoop, and a small tassel hangs from the bottom.
Codex Entry: The Lantern of the Dead
Material: Dark, textured glass and copper ornamentation
This object is not for use in combat.
A lantern of simple design with dark glass and simple copper ornamentation. The shape is reminiscent of that of a skull. The lantern cannot be lit with mortal flame and must instead be lit with an invocation spoken by the bearer.
"Friend to the Dead
Guide my feet, calm my soul,
Lead me to my rest." (X)
When lit, small orbs of blueish-green light fill the lantern and the air around the bearer. The bearer is also adorned with a pair of spectral wings that form a glowing shroud around them. This shroud is not visible to the living.
The lantern will guide the bearer along a sure path through darkness or across perilous terrain, and also grants the bearer night vision.
The bearer will hear the whispers of the dead when in possession of the lantern. The whispers will grow louder as time passes. Continued use and exposure will lead to mental distress and eventual psychosis.
While lit, the lantern sustains itself on the bearer's life force. This toll may be offset with an offering and a blood sacrifice. However, the bearer will hear the voice of the one that was offered, haunting them for the remainder of the bearer's life.
You light one of the unused candles and set it by the coffin before huddling under the blanket in the corner. You cradle the glass lantern in your lap. The candlelight flickers strangely across the textured surface of the glass. You brush your finger over the copper handle.
"Friend," the wind sighs from beyond the entrance to the tomb.
A phrase comes to mind. The words cluster against the back of your teeth, begging to be uttered.
You are faced with a choice. Do you:
β‘ Speak the works and light the lantern
β‘ Fight the impulse to speak and leave the lantern behind

For day 3 of @evanurisweek is Falon'din!!!! As always the twins are my favorite to play around with. I always seem to have the most ideas for Falon'din and Dirthamen (conceptually I think Dirthamen's is my favorite for this series...)
Initially, I thought I would go the route of the shepherd's hook, but as I've already done that imagery twice before with Falon'din I wanted to try something new. I also initially thought I would try to make a really ornamental lantern design with lots of embellishments, but decided to go for a simpler design - again more in line with a shepherd guiding their flock. I like that the glass of the lantern is slightly misshapen, and if it weren't lit it would be a pretty nondescript object other than the strange skull shape.
The little orbs of light made me think of wisps flitting around and guiding the bearer along their path. I also liked the idea of making the twin's items not for combat. Just felt right to me !!
I linked the wiki entry, but the invocation is not mine - just want to double call that out.
I also think its fun that while the lantern does have a negative effect on the user - its not necessarily violent or malicious like Elgar'nan's or Mythal's itmes. It is just a side effect of a mortal coming into contact with something from a plane of existence they probably shouldn't have access to. Definitely a kinder interpretation of Falon'din as a more benevolent shepherd for this project :)
You pass a courtyard overrun by gnarled, twisted vines and tall grasses. The once kempt stone paths are hidden by a blanket of moss, and at the center lies a fountain. A statue looms at the fountain's center - the head is gone, severed from its shoulders, and the body is obscured by a pair of massive stone wings. You step closer - peer into the murky water. The surface is dimpled with water bugs and green, feathery algae shifts in the depths of the water. The night sky is blanketed with clouds, but a sliver of moonlight breaks through the gloom. Light glints off of metal. There is something in the water. You lean closer. A gust of wind swirls around you, and you must catch yourself on the fountain's edge. The clouds break, and the courtyard is filled with moonlight. A curved scepter lies in the depths of the fountain, haloed by algae.
Codex Entry: The Scepter of Mythal
Material: Scorched wood, an unknown metal, and orbs of twinkling light
+7% Resistance to fire damage
+7% Resistance to poison damage
+7% Resistance to lightning damage
+7% Resistance to cold damage
+7% Resistance to spirit damage
+7% Resistance to piercing damage
+7% Resistance to slashing damage
In combat: Magic barrier forms around wielder granting an additional +2% to all damage resistance
In combat: Wielder will speak in the Voice of Mythal which will have a +5% chance to stun, +5% chance to stagger, and +5% chance to cause bleeding from the ears of anyone within a 10 m radius from wielder.
A heavy scepter with a crescent-shaped finial. The shaft is twisted like a gnarled root. Once the wielder touches the scepter, they are possessed by the spirit of Mythal until their death. Possession can be manually triggered in combat with a blood offering. Possession grants +250 attack damage.
Possession will also occur at random intervals outside of combat. The wielder will have no memory of events that occurred during possession. Period and frequency of possession will increase as time passes. Eventually the wielder's conscience will be consumed by the spirit of Mythal, and the body of the wielder will become a puppet of Mythal.
You reach for the scepter, shivering as your hand lowers into the icy water. Your fingers stop short. Do you dare to touch it? Whispers fill the courtyard, urging you to take it. The soft, dulcet voices curl around you as you hesitate longer. It could be useful. You must continue your journey through the ruins, and the air beyond the courtyard hangs heavy with malice. A distant roar sounds further up the mountain. The moonlight fades as clouds blanket the sky once again, and the gloom of the courtyard deepens.
You are faced with a choice. Do you:
β‘ Listen to the whispers and take the scepter
β‘ Ignore the whispers and leave the scepter

Yikes! What's going on with those whispers, huh? For day 2 of @evanurisweek - MYTHALLLLL ! My initial notes were for either a shield or a scepter, and while the shield would have been a pretty obvious nod to the prompt "The Great Protector", I felt drawn to the scepter idea. Bonus points because the scepter alludes to a lot of common visuals we see in the Empress tarot :)
Since I didn't go with a physical shield, it felt correct to have the attributes of the scepter provide protection to the wielder. But at what cost o_0
The side effect of possession was another "well of course" moment, and I had a lot of fun thinking about what that might look like. The challenge with all of these designs and descriptions has been how to concisely describe everything and make it interesting WITHOUT turning it into a novel.
You enter a cavernous sandstone chamber. A wave of heat crashes into you, and sweat immediately begins to drip from your brow. The roof has decayed, and great shafts of sunlight fill the room. Dried, dead leaves litter the floor - fallen from the gapping holes in the roof. Frescos fill the walls, too faded to make out distinct images, but there are traces of golden and orange pigment in the grooves of the stone. The floor glows, almost too bright after the gloom of the forest. A dead vine crawls limply across the back wall - withered and dried from the lack of shade and the oppressive heat. At the end of the room, a gleaming copper chest sits atop a raised dais. It is unlocked. Within the chest is a small dagger in need of sharpening, an empty flask, a rusted key, and a spiked, metal crown. The metal of the crown is dull despite the overwhelming brightness of the room. You reach for it and immediately slice open your palm on the sharp edge of the band. A drop of blood lands on the golden velvet that cushions the chest.
Codex Entry: The Crown of The Sun
Material: Unknown metal
+60% Critical hit damage bonus
+60% Attack power
+60% Increase in mana for mages
+40% Mana regeneration for elves
+20% Fire damage
+20% Resistance to fire damage
+10% Critical hit chance
A spiked crown that mimics the rising sun above the head of the wearer. The metal is dull and lifeless with sharp edges which seem impossible not to cut oneself on.
When worn, the dull metal begins to turn a rosy fired hue as though heated by flames. Slowly overheats the wearer's brain and causes blood loss through cuts and wounds where the crown touches the wearer. Can only be worn for a maximum of 300 seconds before death of the wearer.
Causes irreversible damage at intervals before death of the wearer.
After 60 seconds: Internal bleeding begins
After 120 seconds: Nerve damage and loss of sensation in extremities begins
After 240 seconds: Degradation of mobility in limbs begins
For mage class: Wearer will hear a low voice encouraging the use of blood magic which increases the speed of blood loss. Blood loss will weaken the wearer but add +3% chance to cause spontaneous combustion in enemies.
You hear scrapping from the hallway outside of the chamber - like long claws being dragged across stone. The dagger may come in handy, but what about the crown?
You are faced with a choice. Do you:
β‘ Take the crown along with the other items
β‘ Leave the crown behind but take the other items
β‘ Take nothing

HI AGAIN ! It's everyone's favorite Worst Dad Ever - Elgar'nan for day 1 of @evanurisweek ! Given his status in the hierarchy of the Evanuris, I thought it was fitting to make his object a crown. With sun motifs of course (as is tradition). I had a lot of fun thinking about the attributes / abilities this crown might give the wearer and landed on general attack and damage boosts in combat. I thought adding some favor (is it really favor?) to elves and the mage class was a fun way to show how his bias might pervade even his crown.
I know this is a bit of a jump from the intro, and really I would love to one day think through more details of the journey of this dungeon crawler. But I am making an effort to not go 1000000% or overboard on every single thing I touch just in the hopes of avoiding burnout. And we have other days to get to this week! In that vein, I would have loved to provide different angles of the crown, but I'm trying to stick with simple visual story telling and writing for this project :)
p.s. I hope everyone likes the layouts for these ! I will be attempting to format these in a way that would be easy to click through like an actual codex. And I will be making a master post at some point that will look like a main menu but :) later :))

Everything on this list is something I would probably draw anyway, eventually. It might not be any time soon, and I might not post it, but all of it would probably get drawn. By choosing to sponsor one of the pieces, what you're doing is: 1. making sure I draw it sooner rather than later, 2. making sure I post it when it's done, and 3. making it easier to create art by relieving some of my financial burden.
I did not invent this system. My partner saw someone doing it with fanart on bsky.
How it works is:
You see a piece listed that you want to sponsor.
You send at least the listed monetary value to my ko-fi and include which piece you're sponsoring in the message. (If you send more I might render it further or try out more advanced art styles with it!) If you want me to tag you when it's done, please include your Tumblr URL in your ko-fi message. All amounts are listed in USD.
OPTIONAL: Pay extra and specify a rendering/art style you want me to explore with the piece.
I draw the thing and post it, tagging you as the sponsor when it's done (or listing the sponsor as anonymous if no Tumblr URL was provided).
If you can't afford the full price of a piece but want to contribute, I'll mark partial payments in the list below. I may start work on a piece before it's fully funded, but it won't be posted until it is paid in full. If a piece has multiple sponsors, they will all be listed in the post.
I don't currently want to give ETAs because lately even my Dhavi drawings have taken upwards of a month, and obviously more involved pieces will require more time.
If more than one person "sponsors" the same piece, depending on the piece I might do more than one, or (more likely) I will make it more detailed/a more advanced art style.
Sponsor-able art listed under the cut:
Dhavi Solo:
Halla faun Dhavi, single sketch, $30 (if more than one person orders this, i'll just keep doing sketches of her like this)
Butterfly bra Dhavi, sketch, $30
Dhavi in a Great Bear pelt mantle, sketch, $40 SPONSORED
Lady Godiva-inspired Dhavi on Golden Halla, fully-rendered piece, $100
Sleeping Beauty by Louis Sussmann-Hellborn inspired, fully-rendered piece, $100
Dhavi/Solas:
Meeting on the Turret Stairs, Dhavi/Solas Trespasser, fully-rendered piece, $120
Veilguard Act 3 steamy scene, $120
Klimt's "The Kiss," Solas in a wolf shroud, $120 (did this one for free lol)
Dhavi/Solas comics, $200 each (up first: dhavi teasing morrigan in the temple of mythal)
Pick any pose off the Pose Refs section of their pinterest board and provide the link, the more you pay the more I render, $30+
If you have your own ideas/requests, for either Dhavi solo or Dhavi/Solas (or one of the other ships you know I ship for Dhavi), feel free to send those as well! Please note: If you request something outside of my comfort zone for any reason, I reserve the right to adjust the request until it is within my comfort zone. If you request something blatantly racist, I reserve the right to forward your money to charity without drawing your request.
I do not currently have access to accepting payments through other means. I'll accept recommendations to other payment sites only from trusted people (mutuals, friends).
I'm trying to get together $700 so I can get a new (used) phone, seeing as mine is rapidly approaching a decade old.
Ko-Fi link again (and a reminder that prints are also available there, as well as some digital purchase-ables like my Dragon Age emotes)
