Question regarding the creation of samsara. My specific questions are summarised towards the end. Thank you for reading and responding🙏🕉️
I highly doubt if modern science/ philosophy can ever understand the “why” dimension behind the creation of samsara (given the paradigm it works in), even if it has managed to explain the “how” aspect well via the big bang theory. Actually the big bang theory aligns with the rig vedic description of the origin of universe to a large degree that is why i think that the big bang theory is credible. However, this made me wonder what do the vedas say about the “why” question behind creation of samsara.
But even the question of why was this samsara created presupposes a reason which is an assumption too. From what i understand there are three broad theories behind this assumption that there is a reason as to why the universe was created ie why brahman manifests as samsara.
there is a reason- a mission or a goal to be achieved via this creation
it is brahman’s play- this lies in between no reason and reason
no reason- it is the veritable nature of brahman to manifest as samsara
I find that different schools of vedas highlight different theories based on these assumptions. This understanding that there is no reason to suppose behind the manifestation aligns with the concept of eternal limitless brahman because the assumption that there is a reason behind why the samsara exists probably imposes a limitation on brahman that is actually limitless.
So, specific question is, how to reconcile the classical advaitic interpretations with the rig vedic description (which are adjacent or overlapping only) to understand the “why” dimension of the reason behind creation of samsara. Specifically, what the nasadiya suktam says and what mandukya karika says in verse 1.9, how to reconcile these verses specifically?
🙏🏼🕉️ Samsara is the metaphysical chakra of chitra maya. It is an illusory, cyclic dream state governed by the Purusha. The origins of this is in the mayabheda sukta (RV 10.177), which is recited during the Pravargya ritual. You can read about mayabheda sukta here. Samsara itself as a soteriological concept establishes over the centuries in the Brahmana (ritual manual) and the Upanishad (philosophy) portions of the Vedas.
Your question was, how to reconcile Nasadiya sukta and mandukiya karika. The origin of reality is a mystery that transcends the human mind and even divine intellect. Creation is not a goal-oriented act. It is simply the intrinsic nature of Brahman, rendering the question of "why" meaningless. So, the way I see it, there's nothing to reconcile.
