As much as I find the "fan wars disguised as activism" discourse mind-numbingly annoying, I think the whole "is sports person woke is mastercard feminist does the stripper love me" maxim has become a thought terminating cliche of equally infuriating proportions. Like don't get me wrong the disingenuous "my guy/team is more woke than your guy/team" thing is laughable but a lot of you just use that phrase to shut down tough discussions. Would it kill you to have an uncomfortable conversation with yourself and your peers about the political implications of the things you enjoy, and have a critical look at what your personal political boundaries are and why certain things are permissible to you and others aren't?

in general we need to hold f1 academy more accountable but as women when are fed crumbs and scraps about women in motorsport we celebrate and police each other from being critical; still it is a flawed series (posting the man who groomed a teenager driver on their instagram feed, all the flaws highlighted in this video) with several unserious elements that could easily be addressed by the people in power. something can be both amazing and the right idea but flawed in the execution and f1 academy is no different. it can almost feel too late, what with the worldwide swing conservative, the celebration of women as wags and trad-wives over the celebration of women as drivers and engineers, the mockery and dog-piling of women across all social media platforms. these things should have been fixed when progressive momentum was there. yet it is more important than ever as women to rage, rage against the dying of the light. so don't let anyone tell you it's wrong to be critical of f1 academy. it's good and just.

i do think we should normalise being like. platonically enamoured with someone. perhaps i love and admire you dearly and there's nothing romantic about it
