We live in strange times, indeed, and I wish it weren’t so. Â
In October when I released my book had anyone told me that events I described would have a modern-day parallel, I would have been shocked. For those confused by this statement, my book’s beginning comes from an actual historical event . . . when Queen Elizabeth I relocated her Royal Court to Windsor Castle to avoid the plague . . . of 1563.
Praying that the lessons we can all find from history will help reduce the number afflicted by Covid-19 in coming days. Stay home. Stay safe. Thank you so very much to all the healthcare workers at war.

Revenant
Merriam-Webster defines revenant as "one that returns after death or a long absence." In medieval folklore, the term has an association to draining one's life force. You may remember an excellent movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio that momentarily popularized the term. DiCaprio, in the movie, is left to die by members of his fur trading expedition after he is attacked by a bear. He returns from the brink of death to exact revenge, hence he becomes the revenant. Since the term vampire did not come into common use until the mid 1700's, but the term revenant had been in use hundreds of years prior to this, this is the synonym I chose for the antagonists of my story. As you can imagine, writing about revenants gave me an appreciation for the actual word, itself, which I find is not used nearly enough in everyday conversation. Imagine other entities that are truly deserving of the name regarding its meaning as a blood-sucker. Some may say the IRS. Others would say payday lenders with predatory lending rates. Still others would say certain pharmaceutical companies practicing unscrupulous business practices, Facebook and other social media companies that feed off our information, and the list goes on and on.. Seems as I sit here thinking about what entities and people this term could apply to today, I'm far more disturbed by that thought than anything. Parting thought . . . ask yourself, who or what in your life is a revenant?
