A thing I'm kinda loving is how different people have a different opinion about Lestat's music, exactly like he is a real musician. Some people like more one song some people more another, some people love all of them and some dislike most based on tastes.
What I don't love is people who expected music like the movie of queen of the damned that is just not canon.
I also struggle to understand people who are like "Lestat's music is canonically bad" no is not? We are talking about someone who deeply cares about music and knows a lot, in the first episode we see in the first scene all the compositions based on a poet, him correcting the band, and him holding them for a year to perfect the sound.
I'm sorry is this another "Lestat is stupid and doesn't read" thing?
It's a testament to the generation watching this show.
The show makes a statement on Lestat's music. He references the likes of Bowie and Prince and Freddie. That is the caliber of musician Lestat is.
And they....are not popular with modern (gen z) audiences. That's why Daniel references Post Malone and Jelly Roll as a contrast. That's why Lestat calls the audience "gen snooze."
It's a biting commentary on the fact that garbage (I'm sorry, but it is compared to the likes of Bowie or Prince or Freddie) is what dominates the charts nowadays.
Lestat does not fit into those categories, because he has actual musical talent and is making music that would've dominated in the 70's, 80's, or 90's.
You know, when you had real musicians with real talent. Like Bowie or Prince or Freddie.
And hey, I like Post Malone, but I don't delude myself into thinking he can even graze the realms in which an artist like Prince exists. But Prince....would not be dominating charts in the current society either. The current society is tacky, low-brow, intellectually inferior, media illiterate, navel-gazing, shallow, and, as Lestat mockingly says, "cheugy."
That's why my old ass appreciated Lestat's little biting diatribe there. He hit every nail precisely on the head. Am I a millennial snob? Yes and proud of it. Gen snooze has Sabrina. I had the OG Madonna.
