Hello friends we need to talk about this twitter account:
You might know him from a thread where he was getting wowed by free appetisers in a Mexican restaurant.
Firstly: He is doing a bit pretending to be a wandering samurai. It's a joke and his posts are all made up. This is very obvious if you actually look at his account and website:
He does purport to be Japanese but based on some of the other content he posts there's reason to believe he's British.
Which brings me to my second point: his Samurai content is interspersed with posts like this:
And this:
He is not cute or funny. Stop platforming him.
The chips and salsa thread went viral in June and his website seems to have gone live in July. This confirms what I suspected which is that said website with it's explicit disclaimers was made in response to the big viral hit.
Consequently, back when he first blew up it was potentially a bit harder to figure out that his stories are fictional. That said, the New York Times worked it out so I'm comfortable accusing outlets who ran the story describing him as a Japanese world cup tourist of legitimately terrible journalism.
Regarding some comments in the notes:
Yeah this is also the guy from the truck thread going around. That's what prompted this post and in retrospect I should have said so explicitly.
He claims he just uses AI to translate his posts from Japanese. He also says the art on his website isn't AI generated. I think he is full of shit on both counts.
I only gave a couple of examples but even on a brief look through his twitter it was apparent that he posts a LOT about UK politics to the point where he's quite patently British. He is a Restore supporter which is a party that split away from mainstream far right party Reform due to feeling they weren't right wing enough.
It might not surprise you to hear he does not seem to know shit about Japan? Both the salsa story and the truck story failed the smell test for people who are familiar with Japan. There's also a story about going to a potluck where he seemingly couldn't come up with a single Japanese dish for the character to cook??
Yeah his whole bit is racist and it is troubling that so many people took a guy badly roleplaying as a medieval samurai to be a 21st century Japanese tourist.
dude i recently got a fulltime job and how the fuck do you post so much and so well while being employed. how is is this possible
i'm a horrible employee đĽ

ITâS LITERALLY HAPPENING LMAOOOOO
the other thing about Internet dogpiling is that it is just not possible to think clearly during the acute stages. itâs so easy to criticize people for responding defensively or tactlessly to mass criticism but I cannot overstate the degree to which your brain becomes a rat in a trap. I think we do have to temporarily recalibrate our expectations in these circumstances and accept that they do not necessarily represent how that person responds to criticism. the skills for self-regulating and reacting to normal interpersonal criticism are not the same skills needed to respond to viral callouts.

Post about increasingly niche stuff that nobody follows you for and barely has a tumblr presence NOW
That indie game no one else has played. That show from the 1980s that isn't big in the pop culture osmosis. Your deep dive into Tudor history. A liveblog of your experience learning C++. Your welding skills. Post all of it. This is your house
Voted most grabable waist by his coworkers
listening to CDs in the kitchen i always brace myself for the ad between songs but then it just keeps rolling. skipping around how i like without interruption feels heavenly. we're in such a commercial angst prison that books and CDs are luxury now đ

Inde Navarrette as Nikki Freeman OBSESSION (2026) Dir. Curry Barker "What she really brought [to the movie] was a personality trait to the real Nikki that I did not anticipate. I wrote Nikki as this really sweet, girl next door, kind of like the dream girl of any guy. She's so sweet, she's got a heart of armour. Nikki gives money to the homeless person and you can see she's really got empathy. But what Inde brought was this, like, bro-type of sassiness to Nikki that I didn't anticipate but ended up working really well for the movie because it kind of emphasizes that Bear is totally in the friend zone." â Curry Barker for Cinema Blend [Inde] is a surprise talent. She was very reserved in rehearsal [during production]. It was very much a mystery to me what she was capable of. As a first time filmmaker you're kind of nervous about that. You're like, oh my gosh, I hope everything works out. But I remember, I think this was the first day of shooting, and it was the scene where she was kissing Bear on the bed and she flies back. I was, like; "Here we go, okay, action!" And she did it. I looked at my producer [Haley Nicole Johnson], and said; "Okay. We've got a movie." And that's the take [that's in the movie]. We only did one take of that." â Curry Barker for Evolution of Horror [Auditioning actresses for the role of Nikki] was a really rigorous process. A lot of really talented girls came out for this. You'd either find an actress was really good at [acting out natural scenes] and just talking and all that but they couldn't get the really eerie, weird, scary stuff right. Or you'd find that they could really go weird but they weren't very naturalistic. It was [about] balance. We got very lucky in the end [finding Inde]." â Curry Barker for CBR In Studio
