This is definitely one of the hotly debated portions of Sylas’ story, and with good reason, as there’s a lot to wonder about from his point of view. While I am obviously not the canon source, this will be my take on it:

His sentiments toward Lux are complicated. On one hand, he feels sympathy and even pities towards her for being a mage in the position she is in which is why he offers to take her away at the end of the massacre that he caused. On the other hand, sadly, he cannot shake the thought that she was one of the privileged and has some resentments towards her ( without really meaning to ) which blinds a lot of what he could fully feel towards her.
