Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.

a custom DNS resolver that blocks access to Fox News and other right-wing propaganda outlets
a keylogger to capture the admin password for your router so you can disable parental controls
a VPN or a virtual machine running the Tor browser to bypass access restrictions and age verification checks
your own "parental controls" browser extension, set up to send you notifications if your parents visit websites that indicate they might be spying on you (e.g. Life360)
a userscript that adds a fake virus warning popup to the donation pages of fascist political parties

I haven't had any age verifs forced on me yet but I want to be prepared
companies are generally only doing age verification in countries where they have to, for the simple reason that it costs them money to do it.
if you can trick a website into thinking you're in a country without those requirements, you can usually bypass the verification process.
I generally use exit nodes in Iceland, which has some of the strongest digital privacy legislation in the world and as far as I know is unlikely to do this ID bullshit anytime soon.

it's about trans men so i'm making a completely separate post because I don't want to derail from that
but on a few of those statistics, non-binary afab was the only one who was worse off.
and I'm more aware of transgender sexism than nonbinary sexism (although it is still under the trans umbrella I am aware) but I'm curious why that is? what am I missing? why are nonbinary people with ovaries/uteruses/vaginas/that stuff even less likely to have seen a doctor in the last year and such?
is it because of a reduced likelihood of gender dysphoria? and that's a guess too. idk howany non-binary people experience dysphoria or of it I'd more or less than any other related demographic

When it comes to healthcare, trans men are among the most likely to avoid care because of mistreatment and were among the highest to have negative experiences with healthcare providers.
When it comes to hormone and transition related surgery denials, trans men are among the highest.

Lastly I wanted to illustrate the huge disparity between trans people of any gender at all and cis people wrt serious psychological distress.
Trans men and trans mascs are not just "basically cis men." What access to male privilege trans men and trans mascs have is extremely variable and extremely conditional. The oppression, bigotry, and barriers faced by transmasculine people are real.

as someone who has been involved in union organizing through my dad's union since i was literally in second grade, the way that people on tumblr think unions work drives me literally insane
unions do so much more than just strike. unions bargain. unions sit in at meetings with upper management. unions help people navigate benefits. unions coordinate aid drives for disabled members. my union ran a donations campaign for me for the interim between the end of my allotted paid leave and my disability claim
"unionize your workplace" means so much more than "talk to your coworkers about striking." you gotta actively know what a union is and what a union isn't before you can form one. calls to unionize should lead to more people learning their rights and learning how unions work, and coordinating with orgs like seiu and the teamsters and the aft (and if you don't know what those are, look them up).
My union found me a legal expert to help me check over my last redundancy settlement for free, provided private medical cover whilst I was unemployed, and negotiated a good deal on cheap insurance for their members. It is so much more than strikes.
