ive seen enough superhero movies (both voluntarily and involuntarily) that ive come to the conclusion that the easiest way to fuck up a superhero movie is to make the villain bland
superhero solo movies love having them fight an evil version of themselves or a giant cgi monster so they can tease the better villain for a sequel
i think that half the reason spiderman and batman movies are so popular is because they never do this, even if the movie itself is bad you still get at least one freak that chews the scenery and has a silly costume

I’ve gotten sooooo spoiled by Murderbot Diaries fandom. TMBD fandom if you have a cool idea about SecUnit physiology or Preservation planetary worldbuilding or Corporation Rim political organization people are generally willing to go “oh cool! That’s a neat idea.” I s2g every time I post about Project Hail Mary and Eridian worldbuilding ideas I get someone going “um sweaty Andy Weir said that Erid has no problems and Eridians are perfect and anyway we don’t know how Erid works so your idea is wrong” yeah that’s why it’s called fanwork
Listen I love Andy Weir's writing as much as the next person but I think we can all agree that he just didn't put that much thought into building Erid at all. I'm pretty sure that he knows exactly as much about the place as he thought absolutely necessary to put on the page to make them seem sufficiently alien-like. "He didn't write about their complex social problems" no shit the story wasn't about that. I firmly believe that Andy Weir has no clue whatsoever about how Eridian resource distribution works or the details of how their clusters operate beyond 'seminar that's also sort of a hivemind and Reaches A Decision' or how social roles and social status operate or anything. Eridian problems being absent from the story doesn't mean 'Erid is a utopia', it means 'this story is not about Erid'.

Writing an email is so easy and I will tell you how it's done. This is the advice is for everyone with an email job, but you can apply it to normal human interaction.
The FIRST SENTENCE is the thing you want the recipient to do. Do not make them guess.
I want to let you know about ... (This email is to inform someone of something not to ask them to do anything)
Could you please do ... (This is a request. You want them to do something).
I'm looking into x and wondering if you can help me (this is also a request but for information instead of an action).
People do not want to read an email and even if they do read it, most people are skimming and not interested. Tell them what you want first, then provide context or other information (when you need a thing is often key). If the email is informational, you can even add "you don't need to do anything, this is just to keep you informed!" People will appreciate not having to figure out what you want from them.
If you can't articulate what you want the recipient to do with the message, you are not ready to email them. I read too many emails where I have no idea what the person wants from me.
Put the most important thing first and everyone will be impressed! AI cannot do this for you because it can't tell what's important! Only you know that, which is why you must write your own emails.
to everyone who wants help with emails: go through the notes of this post. there are ideas I've never thought of and plenty of scripts for all kinds of situations/jobs

microslop is currently feuding with some nerd and it's the funniest thing ever
basically, some guy called nightmare-eclipse has found several zero-day exploits in windows and at first contacted microsoft about it but they kept ignoring him (even though they have a bug bounty program, so technically they have to pay him a grant for finding these)
so then he started posting them publicly whenever he found any in hopes of microsoft finally fixing them that way, but of course that leaves windows users vulnerable, because now not-so-nice hackers can see exactly how they can use those exploits. He has found FOUR so far and microsoft did nothing about it.
microsoft then deleted the guy's gitlab account and sued him, after which he said they should mark july 14th in their calender because he is done playing nice and is going to "shatter their bones"

There’s an episode of Sesame Street (on Netflix! you can watch it easily!) where Elmo attends a toy-swap, where you offer up old toys you don’t play with anymore and receive someone else’s toys that are new to you. Cute!
But Elmo, after cheerfully surrendering his old toys, sees that the children who swapped toys with him are playing with his toys “wrong”! They’re imagining entirely different make believe scenarios! They’re pretending the football is a dinosaur egg instead of a rocket ship! Aaahhhhh!!!! And this is so distressing to poor Elmo that he does the unthinkable: He does swapsies-backsies and takes all his toys back!
This being Sesame Street, he learns that you can’t control how other people play pretend, but you can join in if you want to! And if you don’t want to, that’s ok, you can just play pretend your own way by yourself or with someone else who wants to play that way too. You can still be friends with people who play pretend differently than you (and aren’t being mean/harmful/etc, do not bad-faith-read this 🤨).
