saints just swimming in our sins again

feel the air that whispers on my skin getting cooler

see the world changing and crumpling in on itself and expanding in the span of a weekend

and i wonder again

why it is that autumn calls to me

autumn is when the leaves fall and the world comes crashing down and everything feels so much more alive just before it fades away

everything is competing to die the fastest and the prettiest

(sound familiar?)

and i don't know where i am when i am who i am but somehow i dont think it matters because in the fall, nobody does  (some people are just a bit better at pretending than others)

(ive been pretending my whole life, through winter and spring and summer, shouldn't i be better at this by now?)

it's kind of almost funny, how just before everything dies i feel so much more alive, like life itself is inside the spark in my fingers when i touch metal

the fall takes eighty-seven days but it feels like the blink of an eye

(sometimes when the stars surround me i think about how maybe eighty-seven days is a blink of an eye, less than that for an immortal, like maybe since time slows as you fall, autumn makes us all immortal, just for a few months)

close your eyes for just a second and you'll miss it

summer stretches out, lazy and slow

winter drags its feet in the snow
