Billy Bones. I think most of us can agree that as idealistic as he was at the start, he made some questionable and shit choices as time went on and while I was personally routing for Flint and against him, were I Billy, I probably wouldn’t have done much differently. I mean, look at this poor kid’s life; being forced to leave his home and and family only to find a new one with your crew, but your Captain is a tyrant who is using you for his own ends and gets people killed and the man you look at like a father defends him to no end, even when you swear he is pure evil. You confront your Captain and end up falling off your ship. You will never know for sure whether he let you fall, but deep down you can’t believe anything else. Then you are kidnapped and tortured and you realize that everything your tyrannical madman of a Captain warned you was coming was true. You still hate him, but you know you need him so you go back to your crew, only to find that your father figure finally stood against the Captain, because he was so heartbroken by your supposed loss and was murdered by said Captain for it, but still you stay the course and route out other traitors, even if they used to be your friends and stand by the Captain. And as time goes by you grow close to your new Quartermaster and watch as the might and myth of your Captain begins to consume him as it did Gates and you try to warn him and others against the dangers of following him into the abyss, but Long John Silver does not heed your warnings, even as you make him into a King and your Captain continues to break every promise he ever made. Despite this, Silver’s loyalty to Flint never wavers and suddenly you are the odd man out on your own crew, you are the villain, and the man you made into a legend betrays you and you realize that Flint has to die and should have died, long ago, but every time you try to rid the world of the Devil, you fail and fail and fail and along the way you end up becoming someone a lot less than the idealistic young man you used to be and as Hal Gates, the man who died for you, looks down from Heaven, does he even recognize the boy he once called a son?
