so I see you posting about The Monkees a lot and I have to confess that I'm not very familiar with them.
if you were to recommend a song or two for someone to start with, what songs would you recommend?
Oooh oooh i am so glad you asked!!!
Ngl the song you are probably most familiar with by them is āIām a Believerā, and while if you havenāt listened to it i suggest you do (Mickyās voice is angelic imo), compared to their other songs it is kinda mid imo. In terms of their big hits, i recommend āLast Train to Clarksvilleā and āDaydream Believerā.
If you are more of a country fan I recommend āPapa Geneās Bluesā and āThe Kind of Girl I Could Loveā. If you like psychedelic music i recommend āLong Title: Do I Have To Do This All Over Again?ā. Looking for something a little harder? āIām Not Your Steppinā Stoneā or āRandy Scouse Gitā aka āAlternate Titleā (my personal fav). Like 80ās music? āGettinā Inā and āSecret Heartā are absolute bangers. The great thing about this band is that their music covers a bunch of different genres so i am sure you will find something you like!!
I also recommend checking out the TV show since it is how they got their start (they were originally just supposed to be a fictional band). Be warned, because it was the 60ās there are some SUPER racist episodes despite the show being very progressive and revolutionary for the time. If you want to avoid them, the episodes are āMonkee Chow Meinā, āEverywhere a Sheik Sheikā, āSon of a G*psyā and āItās a Nice Place To Visitā.
I hope this was helpful and i didnāt overwhelm you with too much info!! I have been a fan since i was 10 so they are very near and dear to my heart.
