I donât have many rules but hereâs just some general ones:
No hate at all. This includes xenophobia, homophobia, etc. Iâm Asian, we exist and we like to be represented in some fanfics. Iâll say it right off the bat, a lot of my OCs and works will be Asian. So if you have a problem, thereâs the door
That being said Iâm not gonna shame anyone for having a preference. What I write in my fics isnât some call to action against any other writer out there. All I ask is we respect each others works
If I write something that you donât like or bugs you, then just let me know. I hate this idea of immediately crucifying people without letting the other know what they did wrong. Iâll label any triggers and or spoilers, but I mess up sometimes. Pls just let me know
I work full time and go to school, but I to update us much as I can. I do post to Ao3 first.

Does Tala have a fc? Also loooove the story so far Iâm a sour for ponot representation â€ïžđđ€âïž
Iâve been going back and forth about this, but honestly Y2K Claudine Barretto is Tala to me. Like I canât see anyone else as Tala, especially when I rewatched Got 2 Believe (2002). I know thatâs a very niche fc, but I canât picture anyone else being Tala.
A Love so Sweet, it Hurts đ„ - I Wanna be Yours â€ïžâđ„
Tala's House
It was finally the day of reckoning. Judgement day. The night of all nights, that Tala had been strategically planning in her head for the past three days. Tonight she would finally go on her date with Lalo, at least, she had hoped it would be a date. She knew this back and forth, wanting and waiting for any sign to tell her to stop their budding romance, was exhausting. Honestly, she felt exhausted any time she thought about it. But, tonight she would come to a decision. Either she would continue seeing Lalo, or leave like she didn't know him and be rid of the Salamanca family from her life. Tala was smart, not just academically, but grew up understanding how the world worked. Lalo was bad news, to what extent? She wasn't sure. However, she did know there was something more behind his kind smile and charming nature. These grand gestures definitely wooed her, but she couldn't let that blind her from the truth: Lalo was apart of the cartel. Not just apart of it, he was the cartel. Could she accept that? Only one way to find out.Â
The days leading up to their date, Lalo gave her subtle hints on where they were going, but nothing that revealed anything. Nothing too formal, but not too casual. Just bring yourself, he said during their conversation yesterday. Which didn't make it any easier on her nerves. Though, Tala realized from the moment they spoke, things would never be easy with Lalo.Â
Regardless of her lack of knowing, she gave herself a decent three hours to get ready before he picked her up at eight o'clock so there was no time to rush. However, that didn't seem to matter as Tala spent a whole hour going back and forth on what to wear. Sure, she had nice dressed, but she couldn't just look nice. Tonight was one of the first dates that she actually felt excited for, and it had been a while since she got dressed up like this. She wanted tonight to be perfect. After dealing with the whole dress debacle, she finally hoped in the shower and quickly started on her hair and make up. Though, while her hair was pinned up, she once again went back and forth on what to wear. Tala could've gone bold and wore red, or perhaps a floral? No, red was too eye-catching as were florals. Maybe white? No, no that was too similar to a wedding gown. But, black wouldn't be too bad....right?
She took one more glance at the clock. 7:32.Â
"Shit."
Okay, now was the time to rush. Tala practically tossed the dress on as she let her hair down to brush through her curls, finishing her makeup with mascara and lipstick, and quickly deciding on a pair of small gold hoops she got from her mother. She looked at herself in the mirror, hoping her nervous sweat was that noticeable. She figured another swipe of deodorant wouldn't hurt, and neither would a cloud of perfume. Tala also grabbed a sheer shawl along with her purse when she heard he doorbell. "Just a second!"
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.Â
She gave one last look in the mirror before bolting towards the door, and slipped on her heels waiting for her on the shoe rack. Tala straightened out any stray hair, before taking a deep breath and opening the door.
It seemed so silly in hindsight. Lalo never really went on dates, come to think of it, he never went on a date before. With his looks and position, women came and they went. That's why things with Tala felt so different, he actually had to try. Though, he was glad that his efforts were actually worth it. Despite her initial callousness, he could tell his charms worked on her. Not just his money or looks, but she liked him. Lalo knew he had a lot of faults-moral and illegal faults-but when he managed to make Tala smile...maybe he wasn't such a monster after all.
He heard her calling out and footsteps to the door, he could only imagine her frazzled state rushing to get on her shoes. Admittedly, it amused him to think of the hardened doctor getting ready for a date like a school girl on her first date, but surprisingly he kept his smile down for now. He waited patiently for the door to finally open, and when it did his eyes lit up as he saw her. This time Lalo couldn't hold back the grin as he looked over her. Despite already knowing this, he couldn't deny that Tala was absolutely stunning. Her usually straight hair was now done in curls that flowed down her back, with a bit of eyeshadow that complimented her nude-red lipstick. And he couldn't leave out the black dress that fit her form perfectly. "Doctora," he greeted.
"Lalo."
Tala tried not to swoon over him tonight. While, Lalo wore button downs nearly every day, he looked more handsome dressed up like this. If that was even possible. He white button up was tucked into dark slacks, with a sport coat to match. His usual big belt buckle was switched with something more plain, along with a silver watch adorning his left wrist. She could see he still had his golden necklace on, but it was under his shirt and out of sight for now. "You look breathtaking," he complimented as he held out his hand for her.Â
She could feel her cheeks become flushed as she took his hand, "You don't look so bad yourself."
He walked her to the car and unlocked the passenger door for her to get in. Afterwards, he walked around the back and watched through the rear window, Tala had reached over to unlock his door for him. A giant grin found itself on his face as he quickly got into the car himself. "Are you finally gonna tell me where we're going?" she asked as he started the ignition.Â
"And ruin the surprise?" he teased.Â
Tala just smiled and rolled her eyes and drove off to their destination.
Nacho had waited till they were at least a block away before turning on his car. He had snuck into the shop and took one of the cars that were there over night, so that Lalo wouldn't recognize his. He didn't mind stakeouts all that much, honestly he enjoyed the peace and quiet it gave him, but there was always that slight anxiety that followed him around like a shadow. It was practically sitting in the back seat. If Lalo caught him, then the whole jig would be up. The sick bastard would probably torture him till he fessed up, and Nacho hoped for her sake the doctor wouldn't have to see it. But, he had orders to follow, and he needed to know if there was something more to the good doctor than she let on. Last thing he needed was the Salamanca actually having a smart ally.Â
He stayed about five cars behind them, never speeding up or slowing down to draw attention to himself. After about twenty minutes, they arrived at the restaurant and wine bar. Nacho just parked around back and waited. He wasn't dumb enough to follow them inside with a fake wig and glasses, he bugged their table in advance.
Tala was practically jumping with joy on the inside. Getting dressed up and going to expensive restaurants to be wined and dined were things she saw in movies, not something that happened to her. Not only did Lalo pick an expensive restaurant, he specifically reserved their rooftop table. They were greeted by their server David, who both poured them a glass of wine, and excused himself to give them some time. "Don't worry, I'm not trying to get you drunk," he teased.
She felt her cheeks burn in embarrassment, "Don't remind me."
He chuckled, "Don't be embarrassed, you're...cute when your drunk."
Tala cringed but couldn't help but laugh again, "Well, let's hope I don't throw up again."
"It's alright, you can throw up on me anytime."
"Gross."
They both erupted into laughter before Lalo raised his glass to her, "To you."
"Me? Why me?"
"Because you finally said that you like me."
"Excuse you, I haven't said that yet."
"No, but you will."
Even Tala had to admit, Lalo was just too smooth with these lines. "What makes you so sure?"
"Because you said 'yet,' meaning there's still time."
"Well, you haven't said it yet either. So, maybe you'll say it before me," she raised her glass as well, as if to challenge him.Â
"Are you always this competitive?"
"Just on the weekends."Â
Lalo loved every bit of this. Despite how easy things would be if Tala let her guard down and confessed her love, he wouldn't change it for a second. "Alright then, to whoever says it first," he said as he clinked his glass against hers.
"You're on."
Nacho was unsurprised by Lalo's suave confidence, though he commended Tala for her boldness. He doubted there was anyone else that could talk to him like that, even Fring. For most of their dinner, their conversations were nothing of interest. Just the usual of him asking about her work and the occasional flirty comment. Honestly, it just made him wanna bash his head into the steering wheel. But, things started to get a little interesting when Tala finally asked more about Lalo:
"So your business," Tala started, "You just deal with the restaurant?"Â
Lalo was a little surprised by her question, but didn't let it show. "Yeah, mostly the book keeping, boring stuff."
"But you don't take care of your uncle's other business?" she pressed on, hoping she wouldn't regret asking.
He watched her for a moment, trying to gather what exactly she was trying to achieve. This was the first time Lalo didn't smile at her. Tala felt unnerved, she was so used to his charm and flirting, she didn't realize how terrifying that switch in Lalo could be. He simply chuckled and shook his head, playing it off as he forced another smile to not scare her. "What do you know about business?"
"My brother was apart of a business like your uncles, he was like Dom. I only saw his boss here and there, but he's similar to your uncle," she explained, trying to be discreet as possible.
He was shocked at what she revealed to him, as she never mentioned a brother whenever she spoke about her family. "I didn't know you had a brother.
Tala shrugged, "Not a lot of people do. I haven't spoken to him in years."
"Can I ask what happen?"
She exhaled and sat back in her chair a bit as she thought about it, "My father wanted him to quit. He knew what kind of boss my brother had, he knew he would get hurt one way or another. But, my brother's stubborn, he ran away from home and I haven't heard from him since."
Lalo observed her face as she told him, seeing the bit of sadness and regret. But, also he could tell there was a part of her that felt like her brother was still out there somewhere. As she spoke, he realized there was still a lot about Tala he didn't know, but that only wanted him to continue to put together the pieces of who Dr. Tala Velasco was. There was a long pause spent look at each other. "Do you think I'm gonna run away?"
"Or worse."
Nacho was right, Tala was smart.Â
"Doctora, I-..." Lalo reached out to hold her hand on the table, but was interrupted by their server.Â
"So, anyone up for dessert?"
They both pulled away their hands and put on their smiles. "Just the check."
Their ride back was quiet. Tala just wrapped Lalo's coat around her tighter that he had placed on her shoulders, hoping she didn't ruin the moment with her question. But, it had to be done. She had to let Lalo know that she knew what he did. She wasn't going to be a bystander in his crimes. This kind of like already took her brother from her, and if she could do anything she wasn't going to let that happen to Lalo either. They finally made it back to her house, and Lalo walked around to open the door for her. He spent the car ride trying to decipher what her next move would be. Now that it was known that Tala knew his involvement with the cartel, what would she do now? He gathered that she wouldn't go to the authorities, so if not that then what?Â
As they approached her door, she turned and removed his jacket to hand it back to him. "Thank you for tonight, I had a good time."
She was about to open her door when he reached out to hold her hand. She stopped and turned back around, hoping things wouldn't end bloody.
"Doctora, Tala, I know you probably never want to see me again, but I do. I can't lie to you, I probably am all the horrible things you think that I am, and I know my family and reputation scare you, but I would never let anything happen to you. I like you, Tala, a lot. More than anyone I've ever met. Even if after I leave, you decide you hate me and can't stand to look at me, I'll still like you. How competitive and fiery you are, how you don't let anyone intimidate you. From the moment we met, your attitude and the way you wanted to punch me in the face, it was like you shot me right through the heart. Ever since then, you are all I want and I don't plan on going anywhere. I-..."
Tala launched forward and pressed her lips into his. It took Lalo a moment, but he wrapped her arms around her waist as he hoisted her up, to make kissing her easier. In that moment, nothing else mattered. Not the cartel or police, all there was in the world were Tala and Lalo. Her lips were soft and her mouth hot. She had her arms around his shoulders as ran her fingers through his hair. Her heart thundered against her chest, she was certain Lalo could feel it too. He had a good grip to keep her up, finally feeling the curves of her body. Lalo couldn't help but let one hand trail down to her thigh, and he could feel her gasp against his lips. He smirked and guided her leg around his waist, feeling her pull him closer with it. Finally, they pulled away, Tala's face was red as she tried to chase the air that left her body. Lalo was about to speak when she cut him off, "I win."
He paused and burst into laughter, "Congratulations, Doctora, and what will your prize be?"Â
"I might have an idea or two."
He watched as they disappeared into Tala's house for the night. Nacho would have to bleach his eyes after that. He got his other phone and called Fring, it rang three times before his real boss answered. "Yeah, I followed them...the doctor has no idea. She's nothing to worry about."
"Good. Let me know if anything changes."
"I will."
Nacho hung up and sighed. He hoped he wouldn't regret this.
A Love so Sweet, it Hurts đ„ - Hello Hello đ
El Michoacano - Albuquerque, New Mexico
Circa 2004
Lalo never thought himself to be an anxious man. He never had a reason to be. Despite all the things he's done, and will continue to do, he never really had nerves in his stomach or a tightness in his chest. He always had a calmness and joie de vivre that just came naturally to him. However, the feeling of anticipation didn't leave the whole time. The excitement of knowing by the end of the week, he would finally get to see her. Though, as much as he wanted to spend the time thinking and planning out their evening, unfortunately, Lalo had some bigger fish to fry. He still knew his reasons for being here, and that his real goal was to run the business as smoothly as possible, while also trying to get to the bottom of what Fring was planning. Specifically, his business with Werner Ziegler. He knew there were no associates with that name, or any plans of expanding to Germany. At least, they (the real cartel) weren't. The more Lalo found out about Fring, the more questions seemed to turn up.
Nevertheless, there was still business to be done like today's count. Nothing was out of the ordinary, aside from Lalo's thoughts. "Werner Zeigler...Werner Zeigler. Zeeiiigler," he murmured to himself, not caring if Nacho found it annoying (which he did), "You know how many Werner Zeiglers there are in Germany? Twenty-seven. Twenty-six now, according to Mrs. Zeigler.
Nacho just shook his head as he fidgeted with a salt packet. "I told you, I never heard of the guy."
"What about 'Michael'?"
Nacho leaned back in his chair, "Like I said, I only know the names of two guys over there."
"Yeah, yeah. Victor and Tyrus," he rapped his fingertips on his thighs, before his gaze landed on the street dealer and he pointed towards him, "You."
"Y-Yeah?" he asked anxiously.
"Werner Zeigler, you ever heard of that guy? Werner. Zeigler?"
"Uhh, no."
"What about Michael? A bald gringo. He's in the game."
The dealer just shook his head, and Lalo dropped the subject for now. However, he did continue to talk out loud, before turning to his two men and trying to sniff out if there was anything else. "So there's nothing new going on, huh? Nothing...different?"
"Like what?"
"Like anything."
Nacho was silent, but Domingo shot him a worried look before turning to face forward again. Lalo immediately noticed and turned his gaze to him. Unfortunately for Nacho, Dom couldn't keep a secret with that baby face and doe-eyes. "What?" Lalo asked sternly.
Nacho could see the other start to grow nervous from the pressure, so he tried to quickly interject, "It's nothing."
Lalo gave him a look, to which he only tried to explain it away, "It's nothing, man, couple of skells on Fourth have been complaining that this stuff is stepped on."
"Stepped on?" he looked towards baby face, "You hear that too?"
Domingo finally turned to face him and shrugged, "They say it's different."
"Different how?"
"Skells complain," Nacho tried to reassure him, "It's what they do."
Lalo thought for a moment before standing. "Okay. Show me."
Nacho and Dom gave each other one last look, before Nacho stood to drive him. Just as they were about to leave the restaurant, Lalo turned back and took out his wallet, "You know where Lovelace Hospital is, right Domingo?"
"Yeah, why?"
Lovelace Hospital
Tala on the other hand was not fairing well with the anticipation. She had already misplaced two of her pens, and it wasn't even lunch yet. A million things were going through her mind, and while plans of cocaine distribution and possible rivals weren't one of those things, she still had a very full plate. The thing that was bugging her the most, were her feelings towards Lalo. She would be lying if she said there wasn't an attraction, but what Tala didn't know was how far that attraction went. Obviously, she could only speak for herself when it came to her feelings. She liked Lalo a lot, probably more than a lot if she were being honest, but there was still things she had to consider. For all she knew, she could just be a fling Lalo wanted to distract himself while here in America. Additionally, she didn't know if and when Lalo would return to Mexico, and she didn't wanted to get too ahead of herself in thinking what that would mean for them.
As much as her mind wanted to stay on the topic of her love life, Tala still had a job to do. She was doing her rounds when she noticed a familiar face standing at the nurse's station: "Dom?"
He turned and she could see in his hands were a bouquet of roses, "Hey, doc."
"You visiting someone?" she asked.
"No, these are for you," he said as he handed them over.
Tala smiled as she took the flowers in her hands, "Confessing your love already?"
He blushed and laughed, "No, they're from Lalo. I'm just delivering."
She immediately paused and looked at the card attached to them:
Two more days.
This time, Tala's cheeks went flushed as a smile formed on her face. "I-I...tell him I said thank you. Sorry that he made you deliver these all the way here, though."
"No, it's cool. I'm not the only one."
Tala's expression turned puzzled, "The only one?"
Just then, the elevator had opened and a procession of eleven of Lalo's street dealers came in with a bouquet of all different kinds of flowers. The sight was definitely something to behold as these rough-looking thugs all had a bouquet in hand, before placing it on the desk in front of her. Everyone had stopped to look at the commotion, the nurses giggling with excitement at the new material they would gossip about later. Tala stood there in utter shock, but her heart did flutter at the idea of Lalo planning this romantic gesture.
During her lunch break, Tala had stepped out to make a call.
"Hello?"
"I thought we agreed on no more causing scenes at my hospital?" she teased.
"Doctora. So you got my flowers?"
"Yes. All twelve of them."
"I didn't know which ones you likes the most."
"You know, you could've just got one of each flower for one bouquet."
"And why would I do just the bare minimum for you when I can always do more?"
Admittedly, Tala did feel the familiar fluttering in her chest again when he said that. "Well, I just wanted to thank you. They're all lovely."
"I'm glad you think so, I wanted something that could try and match your beauty."
"Are you just saying that so I'll see you sooner?"
"Depends, can you?"
Tala chuckled, "Unfortunately, I can't. I have another late night. Sorry."
"Don't be, I enjoy waiting for you."
Just as Tala was about to say something, she heard her pager go off. She sighed, "I have to go, but I'll try and call you when I can."
"I look forward to it."
Nacho's Car
Nacho had tried not to vomit while hearing Lalo speak with the doctor over the phone. Honestly, he wished he traded placed with Dom and didn't have to sit through all this lovey-dovey shit. He had spoken with Fring regarding the doctor, and Gus had advised to try and see if there was anything serious going on. And if the doctor was to get involved more than just physically, that he should report it immediately. For Tala's sake, Nacho hoped she wouldn't. He had only interacted with her in passing when she was still Hector's doctor, but she seemed like a good person. And way too smart to get involved with a Salamanca. He was relieved though when he finally hung up.
"Are you in a relationship, Nacho?"
He glanced over at his boss for a second before back on the road, "No."
"No girlfriend, wife? Nothing like that?"
"No," he repeated.
Lalo just hummed as he looked at the passing buildings, "So you wouldn't know a place to take someone on a date? Somewhere nice? Not a club, but maybe a lounge or restaurant."
Nacho was about to reiterate himself when he got a sudden idea.
"I might know a place."

A Love so Sweet, it Hurts đ„ - Valentine đ
San Diego, CAÂ
Feburary 16th, 2011
Some days Tala felt like she could never catch a break. From the day she was born, to being smuggled out of Philippines, etc. her whole life has been a struggle. But, so has every single person's on Earth, and like her father always told her: the moment you stop and think about how unfair your life is, you'll be old and dying and wallowing in your own self-pity. When she was younger, she never really understood all the life lessons her parents taught her till she faced them. Like today, she was breaking down over a relationship that she never really got over, meanwhile she had a patient in Exam Room 3 that was there to get clearance for her breast augmentation. Despite priding herself that all her patients had adequate care, frankly Tala couldn't give a shit right now.Â
"I know you probably think I'm some bimbo, but I just want to surprise my husband, you know? Figured a new, perky set would be more eye-catching than a haircut," she teased.
Perky to match the personality, Tala thought. She walked in with pep in her step, and a toothy grin that didn't seem to leave her face. Her expression was usually not one you would see in a hospital, but it would've been appreciated more, had Tala not have other things on her mind.
"Did you plan on breastfeeding?"
Her smile immediately fell and, shocked by the seemingly unrelated question. "I-I beg your pardon?"
"Breastfeeding. Your file says you're not planning to get pregnant any time soon, but if you, take my advice and wait till they deflate from lack of milk then consider getting them done. Until then, just use a push-up, guys only see what they want to see, so he'll hardly notice when it comes off. Also, you don't have to convince me that you want them done for your husband. I'm not a guy, just a doctor, you don't have to justify your wants and wishes as pleasing your husband," Tala explained as she pocketed her pen, "Head to the waiting area, they'll call you up for a copy of your referral."
"You're still giving me clearance? But you just-"
"Just gave you my opinion. Whether you take it or not is not my problem as soon as you walk through that door. Have a good day."
Without letting her get another word in, Tala swiftly stood from her chair and left the room. She had about three more hours, meaning she needed another cup of coffee. Fortunately for her, Dr. Henry Mercer was already there. He was a neurologist that drove a Lamborghini and a new date to every holiday party. Unfortunately, he was Tala's only real work friend and never let her wallow alone in her own self-pity. "You know, we have security for unwanted reporters, you don't have to make death threats every time one comes in."
"A pen in the eye is hardly a threat. We both know you've had patients who survived worse," she remarked, ordering her third cup of the day.
"Studies had show that caffeine used as a mild antidepressant for people, causing increased turnover of neuro-transmitters," he continued.
"Is this gonna be on the test?"
Henry laughed as well, but didn't let her jokes deter him from the point. "I know you don't like talking about it, but if you need to, you know I'm always here."
Her sarcasm left in that moment and she tried her hardest not to get choked up, "Nothing to talk about."
"Tala, we're way past the angsty teen denial. The more you push and press everything down, it won't feel better."
"I DON'T WANNA FEEL BETTER!"
Even the barista jumped and spilled the milk. She felt her body start to shake as tears filled her eyes, unable to hold back now that the gates were open. Yet, Henry seemed glad that she was showing some emotion over the situation. "Go home, Tala, get some rest."
She shook her head, "I can't-"
"You can and you will," he took both his and her coffee, "Don't worry about anyone else but you."
"Can't really do that anymore."
Dr. Velasco's House -Â Albuquerque, New MexicoÂ
Circa 2004
Lalo didn't think that would come out of her mouth. The doctor seemed so withdrawn, and reserved when it came to her feelings. Yet, here she was asking him to stay while she lay drunk. It was definitely out of her usual character, but it was nice seeing this side of her. As much as he loved hearing that sharp wit and seeing her furrowed brows, he preferred her smile. And Lalo just loved to think he was one of the few people who saw it.Â
He didn't answer, though she didn't seem to notice as Tala had already fallen asleep. Bold of her to allow such vulnerability, but he wouldn't do anything. After all, his first attempt at affection literally lead her to throw up. So, he would wait for now, until she specifically asked, he wouldn't act. However, Lalo would stay the night. He sat as her bedside for hours, watching and waiting as time passed. He learned three things that night:Â
Tala was a light weight.
She was a side sleeper and drooled a little in her sleep.
He had never felt like this for anyone else in his entire life.
By the time 6 AM hit, Lalo was gone. In his place was a little note on her bedside table,Â
Thank you, and until next time Doctora.
Tala smiled upon reading it, but the memories of the night before came flooding in and she immediately smacked herself in the face with the pillow. Not only did she get drunk and threw up, but she threw up RIGHT AFTER he kissed her forehead. Lalo probably thought she was some gross idiot. After a long and cold shower to sober up, Tala went on her usual routine when she had the day off: grocery shopping, car wash, calling her parents, etc. and did anything and everything to keep her mind off of things. However, that all seemed to be for naught as she received a call from a familiar number.Â
"Doctora," Lalo greeted as he looked over the shelves of travel brochures, roughly picking out the same ones Michael did from the CCTV footage.
"Lalo."
Even her voice held a certain charm that he couldn't get out of his head. "I hope you slept well. Sorry for letting myself out this morning, I had some...business to attend to."
"No, it's okay. Honestly, I'm really really sorry about last night. I should've never drank that much and threw up and..."Â she rambled out more apologies, but his chuckling seemed to quiet them.
"It's alright, I'm just glad that you're okay. Actually, I was calling to see if you were available again tonight?"
She paused and sighed disappointedly, "Unfortunately I can't tonight, I have a friend's birthday I have to go to. And I probably won't be available till Saturday."
"Making me wait so long?" Lalo teased, "Alright then, Saturday?"
"Saturday."
"I'll be waiting."
Lalo ended the call, smiling from ear to ear. Despite having to wait 3 days to see her again, Lalo would cherish every second of anticipation. Though, that smile quickly left upon hearing the small whimpering from the boy in the corner of the room. Apparently he wasn't dead just yet.

A Love so Sweet, it Hurts đ„ - Stay Ready (What a Life)
Casa Tranquila - Albuquerque, New Mexico
It pained Lalo to see his uncle in such place. A Salamanca stuck in a place for old timers abandoned by their children while their dementia, or whatever ailed them, slowly rotted their brains. He wasn't sure how or why, but he knew the Chilean was involved. Somehow, someway he caused his uncle to be like this. He approached his new wheelchair-bound uncle and felt pity for him, but didn't let it show. Paralyzed or not, this was still Don Hector, patriarch of the Salamanca family, and the right hand of the JuĂĄrez Cartel.Â
"Hola, Tio Hector. Soy Lalo (Hello, uncle Hector. It's Lalo)," He smiled a little, crouching down a little to meet his uncle's line of sight, "Te acuerdas de mĂ, Âżno? (You remember me, don't you)?"
He looked over and saw the slight movement of his uncle's index finger, as if he was pressing a button, then turned of Nacho: "Uno 'sĂ'Â (One is yes)?"Â
"Nada es 'no'Â (Nothing means 'no')."
At least there was some part of his uncle still in there. "Quien no tiene los huevos mås grandes de todo michoacån norte sureste y oeste (Who's got the biggest set of balls north, south, east or west of Michoacan)" he grinned and laughed upon seeing his uncle tap 'yes', "Seguir adentro (I knew you were still in there)."
Lalo pulled up a chair and pulled out the box that held the real reason he was here. A...keepsake one could say. He thought about that night from here and there. It was one of the first times his Tio brought him along for business, and it was a night he would never forget. The way the owner begged and pleaded for his Tio to stop, which he did, only for his Tio Hector to hand the pliers over to him. He even gave him his first cigarette that he tossed into the trail of kerosene that lead back to the hotel. It was nice, the fire was comforting, as if he was camping and roasting marshmallows. His Tio let him stay and watch while he went back to the car-and in his dumb teenage mind-he wanted, no needed, something to remember it by. So, he ran inside, feeling like he was in an oven as the first thing he saw was the bell. Stupidly, he grabbed it with his bare hands and burned his fingertips, before taking off his jacket and using it to scoop the bell up and ran back before he was trapped inside. His heart was beating so fast, he thought it was burst out of his chest. When he caught his breath, he looked down at the bell in his hands. There was a little soot and ash, but it was otherwise undamaged. When it cooled down enough and the hotel was nothing but rubble, Lalo stuffed the bell in his coat pocket before walking to the car where his uncle was waiting.Â
When he opened the box to show him, he knew his uncle recognized it immediately. It was the perfect gift for his uncle's limited movement, Lalo couldn't be more proud of himself. He was overjoyed as Hector repeatedly rang the bell, getting the attention from a few residents nearby. He finally had someway of communication aside from subtle grunts and tapping against his wheelchair. Lalo paused before looking towards Nacho, "Hey, why don't you go get some Jell-o."
He said nothing and slowly walked off, giving the two some privacy. "TĂo, hablemos del chileno (Uncle, lets talk about the Chilean)."
Nacho watched from afar at first, but he could tell this was gonna be a long conversation, so he opted to wait outside the door. Not long after, Lalo sauntered out, "Same ol' Hector, just wants to kill everybody."
It took everything in Nacho's power not to roll his eyes at him as they walked back to the car. "Back to the restaurant?" he asked as he unlocked the door.
"Not yet, I have a quick errand to run."
Nacho already had a feeling what that meant.
Lovelace Hospital - Albuquerque, New MexicoÂ
Tala didn't really know what to do after her 'not a date' with Lalo. If she was being honest with herself, it was totally and completely a date no matter how she spun it. And, as much as it pained her to say it, it was one of the best ones she went had in a while. There wasn't any bullshit of trying to fuck after, or allude to getting married and have 8 kids together. Lalo and her just had a good time together and went their separate way after. Though, deep down Tala knew that she didn't want things to end just there.Â
It was a rare day for Tala, as today wasn't that busy. She actually was planning on leaving early this afternoon, meaning she was gonna sit on her couch with a bottle of wine and binge-watch the Nip/Tuck marathon. But, first she would have to get through the day which meant: coffee.
The baristas were nice, though most were college students who were kids of doctors or nurses who were most of the time invested in a Friedrich Nietzsche book. She did get along with Julia, a freshman at UMN who was studying engineering, mostly because she got her order right from the start. "Let me guess: a large hazelnut latte with whipped cream?" Julia said as she started on grinding the beans.
"Wrong. I'll take a caramel macchiato with extra caramel."
The barista just laughed and continued with the hazelnut latte. Tala just smiled and leaned against the counter, "How's school?"
"Going," she remarked with a sigh.Â
Tala chuckled, "It gets better."
"Does it?"
"Honestly, not really."
They both smiled and laughed a bit. "How's your boyfriend?" Julia couldn't help but ask.
Tala rolled her eyes, "Who else knows about this?"
She shrugged, "About half the hospital, and growing."
"He's not my boyfriend, we're not even dating-"
"She's not, but I am."
Tala nearly jumped out of her skin as she turned to see Lalo standing there. "Doctora," he greeted as he smiled down at her.
"Lalo," a grin found itself on her lips as well, but she tried not to let it show so much. "I thought you were gonna stop stalking me at work if I had dinner with you."Â
"Actually, I agreed to not cause a scene anymore. And, I realized I never got your number the other night," he asked, leaning next to her.
"You didn't ask," she said cheekily.Â
He chuckled, "I'm asking now."
"I don't have a pen.
Which was a lie. Tala always kept three pens in her pocket; one for when she forgot it at the nurse's station, the other for when she forgot it on someone else's clipboard, and the last one that actually stayed in her pocket. "I do!" Julia said cheerfully and reached over the counter, pen and blank receipt paper in hand.Â
Tala sighed, of course she was listening. "Thanks," Lalo smiled at her before taking the pen and paper, scribbling down his number, "Here. You can call me. Speaking of which, you should call me later to night around 7."
"And if I don't?"Â
Lalo just looked her in the eyes as he placed the paper in the pocket of her lab coat, right next to her pens.Â
"I'll wait."
Somehow, someway Lalo always seemed to know the right words to leave her speechless. He took Tala's hand just like their date before and pressed kiss to her knuckles, lingering just a second too long before pulling away. "I hope you do call tonight. Till next time, Doctora."
He left, leaving Julia and Tala watching in awe of his presence that lingered before following him out the door. Julia was the first to break the silence, "You're gonna call him, right? Like, you have to."
"Julia. The milk."Â
The barista looked over at the milk scalding over, "SHIT!"
Dr. Velasco's House
Later that day
Tala got home at 6:00 pm and, after a long bath, she contemplated on actually calling Lalo. She poured herself a glass of wine and stared at the number she left on her coffee table. It was taunting her. It knew she really wanted to call him and invite him over, but she wouldn't do it. She shouldn't. This was stupid. Why should she even bother calling him? He didn't deserve her time or effort, he was a Salamanca. The cartel. Insert bad guy adjective here.Â
Then again, Tala thought about their date and how sweet and charming Lalo was. No one's made her smile or laugh like that in a while. Tala sighed and shook her head. Fuck it. She snatched the paper and boldly marched over to her landline, quickly dialing the number: One ring. Two rings. Three rings. Dread began to bubble up in her stomach. What if he didn't answer? Then she'd look like an idiot who fell for-
"Hello?"
Tala froze, words unable to leave her mouth. "Helloooo?"
Just as he was about to hang up, she found herself again. "Lalo."
There was a pause and she could just hear him smirk through the phone, "Doctora. I didn't think you would call."Â
"Neither did I," she murmured, tracing her fingertip around the rim of her wineglass, "But I figured I shouldn't leave you waiting too long."
"For you? I don't mind. Any plans tonight?"
"Currently: sitting on my couch all night and watching Nip/tuck, while drinking wine and ordering Chinese food."
"Sounds exciting. I thought after dealing with patients and doctors all day, you'd stay away from hospital shows."
"I guess I like to imagine my life was as exciting and dramatic."
He chuckled a bit, "Would you like some company?"
This time Tala was grinning. She should just say no, it would be dangerous for Lalo to know where she lived. Then again, he already knew where she worked. Would it be that bad for him to know a little more about her? Probably. But, Tala really wanted to see him. "If you can pick up the to-go order on your way."
"Which restaurant?"
Tala never could imagine herself befriending a Salamanca, let alone watching one of her favorite shows with one. Yet here they were, bellies full off of beef chow fun and wine as they watched the doctors slice into their patients. Lalo sat at one edge of the couch while she had her legs outstretched, leaning into his side with his arm around her. Admittedly, the alcohol had taken the edge and initial awkwardness off, and she was actually able to relax. "I'm starting to get why you like this show," he said, unphased by the gory scenes.Â
"It had blood and sex, what's not to like?" she teased.Â
He chuckled, "So do all doctors sleep with their patients?"
"All the time. A locked exam room door is the equivalent to a 'do not disturb' sign."
She felt comfortable around Lalo in her inebriated state. She didn't think about possibilities out of her control, or how dangerous he could be. They were in their own little world again, the problems and issues of their every day life were unable to get through their little bubble. Tala actually felt like herself with him.Â
Lalo gently ran his fingers through her hair, mindlessly tucking a lock behind her ear, when he felt the warmth from her cheeks. He glanced down and just laughed a little, seeing how red her cheeks had gotten. "Never thought you'd be a lightweight."
"I'm not," she defended, looking up at him, "Just a little....toasty."
They laughed, Lalo looked down and traced his fingertips against her cheek down to her jaw. He still couldn't get over how beautiful she was, even like this with her hair amess and wearing sweats after a long day of work. He liked seeing her this way. Tala searched his face for any indication as to what he was thinking and couldn't come up with anything. Just as she was about to speak, he leaned down a pressed a kiss to her forehead. Her already rosy cheeks burned scarlet red as she felt her heart start to stutter. Her stomach did flips and a thin sheen of sweat began to seep from her pores.Â
Oh no.
Tala broke away and ran to the bathroom, barely falling to her knees in time to throw up their dinner in the toilet. Lalo hurried after and knelt down next to her, gently rubbing her back. "Sorry, I didn't think my kisses were that toxic," he teased, attempting to make her feel better.
But, she felt even more embarrassed. She reached for a hand towel and wiped her watering eyes and corners of her mouth. "I'm sorry...I shouldn't have invited you over."
"Hey, it's alright," he said in a comforting tone, pulling her close against him, "Let's get you to bed, okay?"
Tala just nodded as he helped her up. She brushed her teeth, and Lalo lead her over to her bedroom. She climbed under the covers as he pulled them up to her chin. "I'm sorry things turned out like this," she murmured.
Lalo gave a half-hearted smile, "I wouldn't have it any other way, doctora."
Her heart fluttered a bit as he tucked her in. Just as he was about to leave, Tala reached out and caught his hand. She was unsure at first, but boldly asked:
"Will you stay the night?"

A Love so Sweet, it Hurts đ„ - Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene
Lovelace Hospital - Albuquerque, New Mexico
It had been a few days since her encounter with this so-called 'Lalo,' and Tala was definitely not thinking about him. Not in the slightest...Except maybe on her drive back to work, and the rest of her lunch break. Or the other time when she was at home watching How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and her mind started to drift off to when their fingertips barely brushed against one another's when he handed over her food order. And yesterday while cooking she started daydreaming about his playful cadence. Or even today, Tala was at work and standing at the nurses station, she was looking over some files when she just couldn't help but think about Lalo. There was something oddly familiar, yet he had this vivacious air to him. Most of the men she encountered that came into El Michoacano were brooding or stoic, with a snarl or scowl to match. But, as stereotypical and overplayed as it sounded, Lalo felt different. Tala nearly cringed, even in her head she knew she sounded like a love struck puppy.
Tala knew whoever she got with wouldn't be some big, romantic, larger-than-life tale where she would be swept off her feet and live happily ever after. That was for the movies. Honestly, she didn't even try to actively date. Sure, she's gone on dates before, and had a few trysts here and there, but nothing ever stuck. They wanted more, but Tala was never ready.
Her daydreams were interrupted by a pen tapping the EKG scans in her hands. Tala nearly jumped as she looked up and saw three of her nurses grinning from ear to ear. "What?"
They giggled like teen girls at a sleepover and nodded past her. She turned and was met with the same smile from her memories. "Doctora," he greeted, "It's good to see you again."
"Hi..."
Tala mentally kicked herself for standing there like a gaping idiot, "W-What are you doing here? How did you find me?"
He shrugged, "Not that many Dr. Tala's in Albuquerque. Really, I think you're the only in New Mexico."
"Right, umm...What can I do for you?" she pushed the file away and tried to gain whatever composure she had left.
"I was wondering if I could chat with you about a personal matter," he glanced over at the nurses and shot them a wink before looking back to her.
The nurses swooned and tried to hold back a fit of giggles and grins. Tala just nodded, trying to be the professional she knew she was. "Of course, let's talk somewhere a little more private," she said and ushered him to follow her.
Lalo gave the nurses one last grin before following after the doctor. "They're a lively bunch," he teased.
She chuckled a bit, "You have no idea."
Tala liked her nursing staff, though they lived for gossip. Then again, the whole hospital did, so she couldn't blame them. Especially they were also some of the few that pushed her to go on a date. "So, what did you need?" she asked, occasionally glancing at the patients in the rooms they passed.
She tried to make it seem she was still doing her job, but honestly she was just trying not to stare at him so much. "You were my uncle's doctor, right?"
Tala paused for a moment, "Uncle."
That's when everything clicked. She stopped in her tracks and finally looked over at Lalo, when she saw the resemblance now. She nearly scoffed but just shook her head and chuckled a bit, starting up her walking again. "Of course," she murmured to herself, "You're a Salamanca."
Of course it was all to good to be true. He couldn't have been some street dealer, he had to be right from source. Lalo picked up on her hostility quickly, but it didn't deter him anymore than it did intrigue him. "So you do know my family."
"All too well," she murmured, "But, I'm not your uncle's doctor anymore, so if you want I can give you the number of his-"
"I'm not here to talk about my tio, I'm here for you."
"Me?"
Tala tried not to look at Lalo out of spite now, but could just tell her was smiling at the side of her head. "What about me?"
"Well, for starters," he began and walked faster to face he head on, "You're just as beautiful as my uncle said you were."
Tala stopped but he continued his pace, causing her to trail after him, "Yeah, yeah, I'm sure he said I was a radiant beauty in those exact words, what are you doing?"
"Well, I was waiting for the next time you'd come by the restaurant, but when you didn't, I figured I'd come to you," he replied as casual as ever.
Lalo kept his eyes exactly on hers, feet not missing a beat as he walked backwards. Thankfully, the hallways wasn't that busy, and most saw them coming and were quick to move to the other side of the hall. Tala, however, kept trying to glance over his shoulders, just in case a stray patient or cart was in their way. "Why? What do you want?" she asked, slightly annoyed that this was about her fourth time asking him that question.
"Isn't it obvious? I'd like to get to know you more. I find you...interesting."
"Well as flattered as I am, I'm afraid I'm busy," she remarked, seeing as they moved towards a more active area.
"When?"
"Everyday."
He chuckled, Lalo was enjoying this and he had no problem showing that he was. That just struck a chord with Tala, in more ways than one. "You need to watch out," she advised, seeing a CNA quickly dodge Lalo.
"Let's have dinner," he pressed on, not a care in the surrounding world to them, "It doesn't have to be anything too special, if you want, you still have to try my cooking."
"Seriously, watch out."
Tala could feel her anxiety bubble as she watched patients and nurses go in and out of rooms up ahead. "Just one night, and I swear you'll fall in love. With my cooking, I mean."
"Lalo watch out!"
In a split second, Tala watched as a nurse walked out of an upcoming room with her medcart, and she quickly reached out, yanking him to her. Lalo stumbled a bit, but balanced himself as held onto the doctor. Tala felt her heart lunge out of her chest a bit as she let out a breath of relief. "Oh my god, Dr. Velasco, are you okay?! I'm so sorry!"
"Yeah, Myra it's fine we're okay, really."
Tala felt her heart start to calm down a bit, but realized just how close she was to Lalo. She looked up and he was smirking down at her, "So, tonight sounds good?"
She just sighed and moved back from him, "If I say yes, will you not cause a scene at my hospital anymore?"
His smile grew, "I'll see you tonight then."
Tala just watched as he sauntered off, throwing her one last look before turning the corner and disappearing into the elevator.
Susmaryosep.
El Michoacano
Later that day
Tala wasn't entirely sure why she even went. Everything in her gut told her not to. She knew the Salamanca's, and she knew that it was best to stay more than 10 feet away from any family member. But, she had a feeling if she didn't, he would be at the hospital everyday till she did. So, here she was, parked in front of El Michoacano and mentally preparing for what was to come. Maybe this was all a trick, an elaborate scheme to take her out. Maybe Lalo and the other Salamanca's were worried she'd squawk to the feds if anyone asked her. Or, as crazy as it sounded, this could just be a regular dinner. Whatever this would end up being, Tala finally exited her car and went inside.
She was just a few steps away from the door when she heard music spilling out. The 'OPEN' sign had already been switched to 'CLOSE,' and there didn't seem to be anyone else around like Domingo or Nacho. A quick peak through the window, and she saw that Lalo had set up one of the tables with a candle and flower in a vase. She could also see that Lalo was zipping around the kitchen, probably finishing up whatever he was cooking. It was kind of cute, all things considered. But, Tala didn't let that deter her from the truth:
Lalo was a Salamanca after all and-like his uncle and cousins-was probably apart of the cartel. She had no idea what his true intentions were, and for all she knew, this could've been a ploy just to tie up loose ends.
Never the less, Tala just took a deep breath and walked inside.
Lalo didn't think Tala would actually agree to join him. Don't get him wrong, he had all the confidence in himself, but the doctor didn't seem to be one who was easily swayed. Regardless, he was more than happy when he heard the small chime of the door as she entered. He lowered the heat of the grill top, before walking out to greet her, "Doctora."
Her usual neat bun was now down, her dark hair had a slight wave to it, but he could tell it was naturally straight. Her scrub top was switched for a light gray long-sleeve, and instead of her work shoes she wore some flat slip-ons. He figured she came straight from work, and the look on her face said it had been a long day. "Please, sit," he said as he walked out and pulled out a chair for her.
She was hesitant, but moved to take a seat, "Thanks."
"Dinner's almost finished, can I get you something to drink?" he asked, racing back to the kitchen to not burn anything.
"Just water," she called after him.
Tala glanced around, just to make sure there was no one hiding before they pounced on her. Was she being paranoid? A little. But, she could never be too paranoid when it came to the Salamanca's. A little bit later, he had brought out two plates along with a small pitcher of water with lemon and mint. He set it all down before taking his place next to her. "Please, after you," he said, unfolding his napkin and placing it on his thigh.
"So, how did you find out where I work?" she asked.
"Nachito told me," he explained, "You remember him, don't you?"
She paused for a moment, before remembering Dom call his friend 'Nacho' here and there, "Vaguely."
Her tension didn't ease as they eat, and Lalo could tell. "If you're worried about me, Doctora, you have nothing to worry about," he mused.
"It's nothing," she said dismissively.
He looked at her and chuckled, "You're not a very good liar, are you?"
"I assure you, I can be a very convincing liar when need be," she teased.
"Really? Go on then: tell me a lie."
Tala sat back and thought about it for a moment, her expression becoming serious. "You're not that good of a cook."
Lalo watched before erupting into laughter, as did she. "You had me there for a second."
"No, I'm serious. It's disgusting," she continued with a small grin.
"Who would've thought? You have a mischievous side to you, Doctora."
"I have a lot of sides to me," she said in a teasing manner.
"I'm sure you do," Lalo could only smirk behind his glass as he took a sip.
"What about you?" Tala asked curiously, "You seemed to pop out of thin air. Your uncle and cousins never mention you before. It's like you didn't exist up until recently."
"I liked to keep a low profile," he said casually, unphased by her pressing questions, "I take care of our business in Mexico, I'm just here to help out a little, you know? Make sure things don't get shaken up with my uncle in his state."
"So, are you planning on leaving soon?"
Lalo looked at Tala and grinned before answering, "I'm not sure yet. I wasn't planning on staying long, but something might cause me to stay."
She tried not to think too much into his words, but kept that in mind.
"So what about you? You seem to know way more about me than I know about you."
Tala looked up at him, this time her own smile forming on her face. "What about me?"
He laughed, "Well, let's start simple: where you from? Chef said you moved here three years ago."
"San Diego. But, before that Tijuana, and before that Philippines."
Lalo was a little surprised, but it made sense considering her proficiency in Spanish, "Tijuana?"
"I know, it sounds weird, but my family fled Philippines when I was just a kid. The smugglers brought us over and guess they got lost and we lived in Mexico for a few years before crossing the border," she explained.
"Fled?"
Tala just nodded, for a split-second, her mind seemed to drift before quickly coming back to reality. "When President Marcos declared martial law, a lot of people got hurt. My parents didn't want me or my brother to go through it, so we left."
"Wow, you have quite the story," he said, hanging on to every word that left her mouth.
She just shook her head to lighten the mood, "Not really, I'm sure there's a billion other stories just like mine."
"Perhaps, but I've met a lot of people, and I have say: there's not one person as interesting as you," Lalo complimented.
She couldn't help but smile a bit, "You think I'm interesting?"
"Very. And smart, and beautiful, and strong," he continued, and Tala would be lying if she said she didn't blush a little.
"Is that how you charms all the girls you ask to dinner?" she remarked.
"Only the ones I like," he said with a wink.
Tala felt her heart flutter a bit and she couldn't hold back the smile on her face. Lalo liked seeing her smile, it made him feel all warm and fuzzy inside. If that was even possible.
Dinner went on and Tala actually had a good time. They talked just about everything-except for the cartel and drugs of course-it genuinely was a good time. It's been so long since Lalo was able to just talk and get to know someone without having to worry about if they were going to kill him, or when he should kill them. Tala made him feel like he was just a person, not the scary Salamanca that everyone saw him as. And while he liked his title and commanding power wherever he went, it was refreshing to chat with someone who just saw him as Lalo. He ended up walking to her car when the night started to come to an end. "So, tell me: how'd you like my cooking?"
She chuckled and pretended to think about it for a second, "7.53 out of 10."
"Ouch, tough critic," he teased as he opened her door for her, "Anyway I could change your mind?"
Tala paused as they looked at one another, and she swore her heart skipped a beat when Lalo's eyes glanced down at her lips. Her heart was racing at this point and their closeness didn't help, especially with the scent of Lalo's cologne wafting in her direction. "It's getting late, maybe next time," she said.
Lalo just smiled and gently reached out for Tala's hand, pressing a soft kiss to her knuckles. Her breath hitched as he gave her hand a small squeeze: "I'll be waiting.
It took Tala a moment before getting in her car. She looked out the window and waved goodbye before driving off.
Fuck.

Itâs a Salamanca!
Summary: Lalo has a daughter no one knows about, and wants to keep it that way. But when she demands to live with him, he really doesnât have a choice.
Pairing(s): Lalo Salamanca & Teen!Daughter OC, Lalo Salamanca X OFC (Past)
Warnings: Teen angst, Lowkey Daddy Issues
Lalo wasnât known to be the most domestic type. But, he liked the idea of being a father some day. If he were being honest, heâd had a whole litter of kids if it were up to him. His uncle instilled him with the values of family, and he took that very seriously. So, a fling of his mentioned she was pregnant, Lalo was overjoyed. He was ready to drop everything and get married; however, she didnât exactly feel the same.
They tried to make it work for the first few years. She moved out to his compound in Chihuahua and at first it was nice. Lalo was very attentive to her during her pregnancy, practically waiting on her hand and foot. But things took a turn for the worse, as it started to be too much. Lalo never let her leave his sight, and when he had to leave for business, he had Miguel glued to her side. Not to mention she couldnât even leave if she wanted to. âItâs dangerous for you to leave in your state,â he would tell her, âIf you need something, Iâll have Yolanda or Miguel get it for you.â She felt trapped, a prisoner in her own home. Things only got worse after the baby was born.
Still, they were more than happy. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl they named Evelina, or Eva for short. She had big brown eyes and tufts of dark hair. When Lalo first laid eyes on her, he felt a love he had never felt before and knew that he would do anything for his daughter.
Evaâs mother, however, felt like she was going insane. Her postpartum hit hard and Lalo knew deep down he couldnât keep her here anymore. Her mood swings were becoming too much for him to handle, but Yolanda had said something about it. The older woman knew that Lalo couldnât keep his baby mama here without someone getting hurt. So, he packed up all her stuff and let her go back to her family. However, he had Eva stay with him. For a time, that is.
As happy as his TiĂł Hector was for Lalo to have a kid, he advised him that she should be with her mother. Honestly, Hector saw Eva as a distraction from the business and until Lalo had a son, he shouldnât be too involved. Of course, Lalo didnât even wanna think about the idea of letting his baby girl go, but Hecotrâs word was law. Plus, his baby mama was able to heal from their time together and wanted Eva to live with her. His hands were pretty much tied at this point. Lalo felt like his heart was being carved from his chest. Eva was only 2 years old when her mother took her, ever since then, things werenât the same.
He still tried to have a good relationship with his daughter. He sent her letters and gifts, calling when she was old enough to use the phone. When she was 5, Eva visited him one summer and Lalo felt complete again. She definitely had grown since the last time he saw her. Her hair had grown into brown, wavy locks that were usually tied up into pigtails. But, she still has those big brown eyes that would make anyoneâs heart melt. She was sweet and had a little bit of a mischievous side to her, but it was mostly to sneak pieces of candy before dinner. Lalo didnât want her to leave, but knew things would only be worse if he didnât.
It had been 9 years later since she visited her father. Lalo still called and sent gifts, but it didnât fill the void she felt in her heart. Even Evaâs stepfather couldnât make up for the man she new to be her real dad. It hurt even more that her mother seemed to act like he didnât even exist. She hated when her mom did that. From what Eva saw, her mom was the reason she couldnât see her dad. Why he lived so far away. Her mother didnât blame her, she never told Eva the truth about her dad and the Salamanca family. She didnât want to taint her life. But, like Lalo always said, the Salamanca blood runs hot.
Eva had gotten into another fight at school, her third one this year. She was nearly expelled, but her mother pleaded that she needed another chance. So, the principal settled on suspension.
The ride home was tense. Eva was slumped in the backseat as she crossed her arms and started at the window, refusing to speak to her mother. Who was sitting in the passenger seat as her stepfather drove. âThree week suspension. Three weeks! This isnât just a vacation for you, do you even realize this means?â her mother exclaimed.
âAre you even gonna ask me my sideââ
âNo! That doesnât matter. What matters is that your suspended and that girl has a broken nose!â
âShe deserve it sheâs a cunt!â Eva remarked.
âLanguage!â
âShe is!â she sat up to finally look at her mother, âHow come you never have my side? Dad said to always defend myself no matter who it is.â
âYeah, Iâm sure your father did,â her mother grumbled.
âWhy do you do that? Dadâs the one protecting meââ
âProtecting?â her mother scoffed, âYou think your fatherâs always right, donât you? And Iâm just mean olâ mom trying to ruin your relationship.â
âYes I do! Youâre horrible and I hate you! I wanna live with dad!â Eva exclaimed.
Her mother rolled her eyes, âYeah, sure you do.â
âI do! Iâm gonna call dad tonight and Iâm going to live with him.â
âYou know what, fine. Be my guest.â
When they got home, Eva immediately stormed to her room and slammed her door shut, like every angsty teen. She felt tears form in her eyes as she pulled out her phone and dialed her dad. âPlease pick up, pleaseâŠâ she whispered to herself as she heard the other line ring.
âHello?â
âPapa?â Eva said with a small sob.
âMijĂĄ? QuĂ© pasĂł? What happened? Are you okay?â his voice was filled with concern.
âI canât do it anymore, I canât live here. Please, I hate it here!â
âMijĂĄâŠâ he sighed solemnly.
Lalo knew he couldnât really. He lived a dangerous life, and Hector would never approve. But, Hector couldnât really make that decision anymore. Still, he doubted his ex would agree to this.
âPlease!â Eva continued, âI donât wanna be here anymore, I donât wanna be around her. She said I could live you, please Papa!â
When he heard how distraught Eva sounded, his heart twisted in his chest. Needless to say, Lalo to booked the first flight for Eva to fly to Albuquerque. Which, she was confused at first, but he simply explained he would be in the States for some business. Eva said nothing to her mom when they dropped her off at the airport. She didnât care. All the mattered what that sheâd finally be with her dad. A small apart of her was nervous though. 9 years was a long time of not seeing each other, but she just knew things would be okay.
Lalo didnât tell Nacho much, other than to drive him to Albuquerque International Sunport. Then again, he never told Nacho much about anything. The younger of the two did eventually ask, âWho are we picking up?â
âAnâŠassociate of mine.â
Nacho was suspicious but said nothing more of the matter. While they waited, Lalo anxiously looked over the crowd. Would Eva still love him despite his absence? Maybe she resented him all these years? He wasnât sure. Through their calls, he assumed her mother didnât turn her against him. Hell, Lalo was pretty sure his ex didnât even tell Eva what his actual job was. He intended to keep it that way. Eva deserved a good life, and Lalo would give her one if it was the last thing he did.
He quickly spotted those familiar doe-eyes and saw Eva sprinted through the crowd, âPapa!â
His arms flew up as she practically jumped into them. Eva clung onto him and Lalo held her right, as if sheâd disappear if he let go. âMijĂĄ,â he said, peppering kisses to her temple, âI missed you so much.â
âI miss you too,â she murmured, pressing her face into the crook of his neck.
She had grown significantly, but was still shorter than him. She was maybe 5â2, and her brown hair had grown long to reach her lower back. But, it was tied into a loose ponytail. In Laloâs opinion, she looked more like her mother than himself, but Evaâs mom always said how she looked like her father. Especially her smile.
Nacho just watched with wide eyes. Never did he think Lalo would have a daughter. Hector or Tuco never mentioned her, and neither did Lalo himself. Which was surprising considering the man never shut up. Then again, he understood why. His daughter had a huge target on her back. Especially since he knew he would have to tell Fring about this.
When Lalo set Eva down, Nacho regained his composure and his usual stoic expression. âNachito, this my daughter Eva. MijĂĄ, this is Nacho myâŠcoworker,â he introduced.
Eva couldnât help but chuckle a little, âNacho?â
âItâs a nickname,â he muttered.
Just from the look of her grin he knew:
She was a Salamanca.
