Whatās the Jewish and Cohen status of a child born to a Jewish nonbinary parent (gave the egg), non-Jewish transgender father (carried the pregnancy), and transgender Jewish mother (born a Cohen and gave the sperm)?*

Can Cohen status be transmitted by sperm alone, even if from a woman? What about Jewish status from an egg alone, where āmotherā may not or only partially apply? In streams that would require the child to convert to be recognized as Jewish, how would that change Cohen status? If the father/carrying parent converts while pregnant, how does that change that childās status? Is the child a convert?

I understand that some of you are concerned about the potential for further bad actions by Trump/backlash from leftists as a result of him cracking down on the mobs at Columbia, but I need you all to understand that Jews in NY are in crisis mode right now.
Like it or not, Donald Trump will be the president for the next few years. Any efforts by the executive branch to enforce laws protecting the Jewish population from terrorist threats and/or illegal discrimination will be involve Donald Trump, because he is the head of the executive branch.
We do not have the luxury of waiting around for the perfect politician with the least potentially offensive plan to implement measures to combat antisemitism.
i think my favorite part of bar & bat mitzvah shabbat services is when you have a few back to back weeks with opposite energies, like one week it's a lovely young girl in her first pair of high heels who's mom is wearing a matching dress and her hair is curled and it's a sweet service and the next it's a boy who's half her height and wearing a camp t-shirt and his brother is teasing him on the bima and everyone is acting like we don't see it for their parents sake but everyone is silent laughing with the boys anyway

They made me smile today too :) My shul has had a bunch of adult b mitzvahs these past few years, largely gerim, which is itself hopeful. Weāre growing and the outside world isnāt all hostile to us - some of them see the beauty in Judaism enough to no longer be able to bear being outside it.
it's weird the amount of joy and fear living an active jewish life brings, i know it's a known thing in the community but like in the same week i was verbally assaulted for being visibly jewish at a pride event i also got accepted into young adults initiative at my local jewish federation. these are things that feel both huge to me but also terribly mundane, and unless im around other jews that dichotomy isn't something that is easy to explain

itās honestly so exhausting that 90% of the posts in the jumblr tag and on most jumblr blogs are about antisemitism. and to be clear weāre all allowed to vent and be openly angry about the rise in antisemitism, especially when no one else listens to us.
but itās so SO exhausting to be out in an antisemitic world and come back in trying to find online community and find people talking about antisemitism and thatās mostly it. jewish joy is so rare on jumblr now. we need to protect our happiness and peace as much as we protect our right to anger and self defense. we need to CREATE happiness and peace. or weāre all going to go insane!!!!

not half an hour later I'm being treated by an Arab nurse, as I type I'm in a bus driven by an Arab driver. anyone who thinks 'arabs are the enemy' is willfully blind. they are members of our communities here and now.
Goyim need to understand that every single jew in the world is my family. Even when I don't like them. Even when I HATE them. No one else is looking out for us so we have to look out for each other and sometimes that means caring about absolute motherfuckers.

As far as I can tell, Halacha generally judges transmission of Jewishness based on the uterus (the child is immersed in the water of the uterus instead of the water of the mikveh). Itās a place where Jewish law separates womanhood from body parts and reproduction.
This Conservative teshuvah from 2022 argues that a child born of a Jewish egg should be considered Jewish by birth, so it looks like that has not been the prevailing (Conservative) opinion. Children born from a Jewish womb were considered Jewish previously. Iām not sure how widely accepted the āJewish egg = Jewish babyā argument is nowadays, but they have some relevant Talmudic examples.
A lot of rulings applicable to nonbinary/trans parenthood came about for people using assistive reproduction technologies, where not just the egg and the sperm come from different people, but the egg, the sperm, and the uterus are all from different people and maybe the parents who raise the child are different from any of those. The above Conservative teshuvah makes a few references to LGBTQ families but the focus is really not on the sperm at all, nor the woman-ness itself.
So definitely, if one of them provides both the egg and the uterus, and that is the Jewish parent, regardless of gender, the child is Jewish. Even if that parent isnāt a mother per se.
If the nonbinary Jewish parent uses āimaā and āabbaā interchangeably and is ALSO a mother, that is very cool of them,ļæ¼ but I havenāt seen anything in rabbinical literature of any stream indicating it would make a difference to the childās Jewish status if not.
If they do reciprocal IVF, it depends! It looks like Orthodox Jewish sources are pretty divided on whether Jewish status is conferred by egg, uterus, or whether it needs both.
Now we just need to make this polyamorous to get even more complicated š What about a triad where the nonbinary Jewish parent provides the egg, the transgender man non-Jewish father carries, and the non-Jewish transgender woman mother provides the sperm?
I initially started writing out an answer to this that basically said āit just depends on who carriesā but itās notā¦ quite that simple, though that seems to be the prevailing impression online. Some further discussion:
