In one of the versions of Commedia dell’Arte, Pierrette was in love with Pierrot. However, Pierrot was in love with Colombina, while Colombina herself had feelings for Arlecchino.
Colombina was extremely beautiful, intelligent, charming, and captivating—always the center of attention. Pierrette was the opposite: shy, quiet, overlooked, and often ignored by others, especially by Pierrot, who suffered from unrequited love for Colombina. Because of this, Pierrette felt a soft jealousy toward both Pierrot and Colombina.
She longed to be like Colombina or to take her place so that Pierrot would notice her. But no matter how hard Pierrette tried, Pierrot never saw her—his eyes were only for Colombina.
I love imagining how our present-day Pierrot would react upon seeing the alternate version of Beatrice dressed as Pierrette.
In my mind, Pierrot would be struck with astonishment, his heart overflowing with euphoria at the sight of his beloved Beatrice transformed so elegantly—her costume radiating the charm of a true circus performer. The moment would feel almost magical, as if she had stepped straight out of a dream.
Meanwhile, Pierrette herself would be caught in a swirl of emotions. Confused by Pierrot’s unusual attire and overwhelmed by the intensity of his passionate gaze, she would blush with embarrassment, unsure how to respond to such an unexpected display of affection.
You gave me the exact inspiration to capture it in this drawing, I hope to see your idea captured.
I wasn't so aware of Pierrette's story so every time you explain it to me I feel that this is the most beautiful thing that can happen to her.
