I repeated the experiment later, wearing the boots but otherwise my usual clothing and mimicking the expression I thought I’d had at that moment. People parted like I was Charlton Heston.

I now wear that style of boots whenever possible. I recently had a man do a double-take as I walked by and ask me, politely, where I had served because I “looked like a soldier.” I’m not current or former military. I was wearing a flowy purple peasant top and looked as un-soldierlike as possible.

Wheel like you’re gonna win the Indy 500 and don’t care how.

Your crutches are short swords; walk like you can see them buried in the bodies of anyone who crosses (in front of) you.

Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.

Vampire Bat, often seen as creepy, but they’re actually really cute. Also fun fact, vampire bats live in a social structure where able-bodied bats go out and feed and then share part of their meal with old/weak/sick members who cannot forage themselves. No survival of the fittest here, every bat helps every bat out <3 

A personal favorite of mine: Honduran White Fruit Bat, also known as ‘Marshmallow Bats’! These tiny cuties make tents by nibbling on the leaves until they fold down, and they snuggle close underneath it!

Bumblebee Bat! The smallest bat species and often considered the smallest mammal on Earth!

And don’t forget, this trauma can be purely environmental. Even a small cut or scratch can trigger vitiligo to start appearing.

Only 1% of the entire world’s population has vitiligo but I see so many artists making characters with it when they sometimes don’t even know what vitiligo is and pass it off as “skin pigmentation”. Like— what does that even mean??? XD

Saturday, April 10th: Hi everyone, I’m Gemma, a bi, mentally ill disaster, who’s in desperate need of help as I'm struggling to pay off court fees.

I'm really sorry to be making this post again, but my council tax bill came out earlier than expected, and my account is now overdrawn and I'm back to square one with needing help to pay off these court fees.

As most of you are already aware from my previous post, I have been struggling financially for quite some time due to my welfare benefits being under a review, which is due to my worsening mental health and the UK’s controversial changes to how benefits are assessed and assigned. And at the moment, I'm currently struggling to get by, as I don't get any help until the end of the month, and I am still awaiting the outcome of my PIP Assessment (April 2021 at the latest)

These court fees are from my court case back in 2017, in which my rent arrears were over £1000. At the time, I had lost a loved one and then my job due to stress and mental health issues and couldn't afford to pay it. I eventually managed to pay the arrears off, but now I've been billed for the court fees of £101.88, which is to be paid in 28 days, or my case will be reopened!!

If anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would literally save my life, and sharing definitely helps just as much as donations. Nobody is obligated in any way to donate if they can’t or don’t want to, I know we’re all struggling right now.

When I was a child, from the time I was about four and could understand things, my mom told me and my brother that we should have a secret word. That way, if we were ever in trouble or felt unsafe and we didn’t want the people around us to know we needed her to come get us, we could let her know. So she let us pick the word and my brother and I chose the phrase “peanut butter cups.” (I’m happy to share the phrase now since both my brother and I are adults now). 

I used the phrase twice in my life. Once, I was at a friends house when I eight years old. Her dad got really drunk and was throwing things against the wall. I was really scared and I didn’t want to draw attention to myself on the phone when I called my mom to come get me because I didn’t know if he would get more violent if I asked her to come get me. So I called her and was calm and after a couple minutes I asked “Hey mommy, did you get me those peanut butter cups from the store?” And she said “I’ll be right there.” And she came and got me within minutes. 

Second, I was a teenager spending the night at a friends house. Her brother and dad were drinking and they started talking about things that made me uncomfortable - ie: what they liked to do to women. My friend didn’t seem perturbed and said that was normal for them and that I shouldn’t worry. But I was worried because they were really drunk and I was 15 and the only ‘woman’ around that wasn’t related to them. I went in my friends room, told her I needed to call my mom and say goodnight. Before I hung up with her I asked “Next time we go to the store, can we get some peanut butters cups? I’ve been craving them.” And she came and got me, just like that. 

Last June, in the wake up of yet another uprising in hate crimes committed by white supremacists, we released the following statement:

White supremacists, Nazis, and other purveyors of hate can fully fuck off. They are not welcome here.

These words are as true today as they were then. We stand with the Asian American community. If you see hate speech on Tumblr, please report it. That shit is not tolerated here.

Tw: death, violence against women

For context: On March 3rd, Sara Everard, a 33 year old English marketing executive, was kidnapped and murdered my Metropolitan Police Constable Wayne Couzens.

The death of Everard prompted a mass concern for women’s safety as she was murdered by three system that was promised to protect her. Several hundred people, including the duchess of Cambridge, showed up to Clapham Common to pay their respect to Sarah and protest the violence against women in U.K. streets. There was a place for the police at the Sarah Everard vigil- peacefully reminding people to wear masks and socially distance, acting as marshals. People are defending the met by saying it was an unplanned protest and the protestors were breaching covid rules. But let’s loom at something.

This photo was taken last week in Glasgow, after the foot ball team Rangers had one a game. Mass celebrations in the street. No police enforcement of covid rules. Nobody arrested or forcibly removed. Not a mask in sight. Flares being set off. Sectarian phrases being yelled. Near-riot behaviour.

Police at the vigil for Sarah Everard and the subsequent peaceful protest. These people were standing, just standing with their phone torches turned on. A few had signs condemning the police for failing to protect women time and time again. The police trampled and ruined the flowers left there by mourners. Women were detained. Forcibly removed from the bandstand. These women came together to mourn a woman who was killed at the hands of the police, peacefully so. And the police saw them as a threat and enacted force on them.
