they’ve really nailed the whole “childhood friends who’ve grown apart and now are antagonistic toward each other but who deep down have empathy for one another and feel oddly possessive of each other” with Emma and Zane
Would she lend him a pencil? No. Would she risk her life to save him? Yes.
the thing about me is i can see a character in any show in my peripheral vision and headcanons just start blooming like flowers in the spring. how do i explain to the h2o side of the destiel website that my brain is telling me dr. harrison bennett is devoutly catholic and zane has deeply rooted religious trauma and sometimes when zane feels particularly bad about himself he'll go to mass halfway through and sit quietly in the back. he will wear jeans and the cheapest t-shirt he owns because at 19 his money feels like shame. jesus flipped tables in the temple over greed. he'll brush his fingers in the little fountain of holy water and wonder if mermaids can cross themselves. did god make mermaids. is there a god at all. did anyone see him weeping under the fig tree. why did jesus get a mother and he didn't. zane will walk around with ashes smeared on his forehead and a hollowness in his chest because harrison turned his face away from him just like god turned his face away from jesus while he asphyxiated to death on the cross. anyway.
an excerpt from a story I'm not writing
does anybody else find it kind of contradictory that Lewis gets into a prestigious marine biology program in season 3? in season 2, Charlotte is confused by Lewis studying biology textbooks, noting that he takes physics and chemistry, not biology. and this definitely tracks with the type of science we see him do, even when it comes to the girls. he studies planetary alignments, he studies the magnetism of the moon pool. if the experiment with water and magnets that their teacher thought was his term project was real, that would be a physics project. his fishing lure sucks, probably because fish behavior (biology!) isn't his strength. he studies their biology in season 1, yes, but that culminates in him creating a chemical compound to protect their skin from water. Which causes an allergic reaction, which is a biological response someone well versed in physiology probably could have predicted. But Lewis didn't. idk maybe the American marine institute or whatever he called it has some kind of biochem track? is there such a thing as marine physics?
okay so the answer is yes marine physics exists, and it's called physical oceanography. so this is what I am going to assume Lewis studies.

Cleo's celebrity crush is Robert Irwin and everyone gives her so much shit for it because that's just Lewis in a different font, which is obvious to everyone except Lewis
#oh definitely#she has a type#the type being lewis really#i feel like lewis would get a little jealous (he is stupid) and he’d try to show he’s ‘super good with animals too btw 😠’#and then he’d end up like getting peed on by a koala with chlamydia#cleo would take him to get treated ofc
yes yes yes!!!! this is exactly what I was picturing lmao Rikki hears about the koala thing later and laughs and laughs and laughs while Lewis just stands there frowning
No one asked for this but I want to do an H20 Rewrite, but like switch up the couples (Cleo and Lewis can stay honestly)
But liked it'd be Emma/Zane and Will/Rikki. Walk with me. Emma would actually whip Zane into fucking shape. Rikki didn't care or try enough to. But like with Emma, would be no dumb arguments no treasure hunting, no hassling Mrs.Chantham, more emphasis on them being childhood friends to enemies kinda to lovers. Like it would eat down. She'd def make him stand up to his dad way fucking earlier. and call out his dad herself respectfully.
Will/Rikki I mean lowkey already canon. But Will would either show up first season, or show up second season instead of Ash, and they'd get together. Or Will replaces Byron. Will would be the one with the treasure hunting, obsessed with mermaids, (him and zane can bond over that bth losers) Will is so chill, Rikki would chill out more.
Uggh Clewis aint' changing they endgame tbh. But yeah. Idk why I got hit by this inspo but here we are.
What would be the ship names? Wikki ew, Rill? omg Zemma. Lol.
Anyway Emma would kiss Zane during that party on the full moon and it changes everything.
Will would have to be in town earlier and I guess kiss Riki during hers, he would be on Mako doing god knows what just like he was in season 3.
Passion project fanfiction I'd do after my other ones but yeah.

For a long time I headcanoned that clewis would get married on the beach at Mako but then Don and Sam got married there and I can't imagine Cleo getting married in the same place as her dad lmao

Hi I made a quiz based off of my favorite childhood tv show (h2o) that I put wayyyy too much effort into. Please lmk what you think if you take it!
Thinking about what h2o teaches boys.
Nate is probably the show's biggest example of toxic masculinity. (Zane has his moments, too, but he's allowed growth in a way Nate isn't because Nate isn't as important.) Nate tells Cleo to wear something "short and tight", hits on pretty much every girl in the show, and is constantly violating boundaries and being disrespectful in general. All that on top of him just kind of sucking. He's a jerk and he never changes. And you know what? He never ends up getting a girlfriend. The girls are pretty consistently annoyed or disgusted by him. Narratively, he is the butt of the joke.
On the other hand...
Lewis is by all measures a very decent guy. He's kind, respectful, trustworthy, understands basic boundaries, and treats women like human beings, and not just objects of desire. I mean his three best friends are girls. And even when he pines over Cleo both in season 1 before they get together and again post breakup, it's clear how much he values her friendship. He's in love with her, obviously, but he's also just happy to have her as his best friend. He's not perfect but by god if he doesn't respect the women in his life. And you know what? He has at least three girls interested in him. Hell, the second season is largely about two girls fighting over him.
I know the show's main audience was young girls, and I think showing girls an example of how they should be treated is very important. Knowing what respect and healthy relationships looks like from a young age makes it easier to spot when you're being mistreated! But I also think for any young boys watching, it's a good lesson in how to treat the girls and women in their lives.
#let's not talk about what season 3 does to all this lol#but even in zane's earlier iterations. yes he is undeniably a little shit circa early s1#then rikki begins to fall for him when he shows a softer side AND only agrees to go out with him when he calls off the mermaid hunt#throughout s2 he proves time and again that she can trust him to keep the mermaid secret#ambergris episode notwithstanding. s1 + s2 of h2o mostly have decent takes around boundaries and consent
yes! yes! I also love how Zane in season 2 is totally happy to let Rikki set the pace of their relationship and accepts all her conditions. It's all on her terms. but I also appreciate the show is careful to show that he very very willing. I think something important season two does is show that coercion can happen in any direction in a relationship. Charlotte manipulates and coerces Lewis, as an obvious example. And while that arc isn't handled perfectly for many reasons, I think one thing it does well is show us what an unhealthy, toxic relationship looks like, from both sides, and not only that, how it can happen accidentally. Neither Lewis nor Charlotte have bad intentions towards the other, and I think that's important. Being toxic, even being full on abusive, is not usually a conscious choice but the result of many complicated factors. We're all capable of it.
I also really love the episode where Cleo and Lewis are babysitting Kim and Elliot at the marine park. It shows how easy it is for someone sweet and a little naive like Elliot to be taken advantage of. It uses the simple example of one person paying for everything for someone who clearly doesn't care about them, to highlight what an unequal relationship can look like. And I especially love when Cleo and Lewis tell Elliot a relationship should be an equal partnership.
To go back to the zikki of it all, I think it's important that though Zane agrees to all of Rikki's terms, including not being seen in public with her, which imo would be a reasonable deal breaker, he does it with a smile on his face. She's calling the shots, but it's not remotely coercive, which given everything else going on in season 2 feels intentional. There's nuance to everything and what could on paper seem uneven actually isn't in practice for various reasons.
Idk what happened in season 3, but between Zane not treating Rikki like an equal partner in the business even though they're supposed to be, and Will stomping all over Bella's boundaries, they really threw this messaging in the trash.
Surprisingly this is a hot/controversial take, my FAVORITE Lewis haircut is in the first season
And whether it's canonical or not that's the only haircut I'll be drawing him with, it's cute, flowy and fun to draw!
