GUYS IT HAPPENED. I HAVE A DATE NEXT SUNDAY

#literally screaming laughing sobbing singing to the heavens #oh how i've been praying for this guy and for the Lord's will to be done between us #and what an incredible gift for him to answer my prayers this way!!!#i'm just so blown away by his goodness and this gift #i was so prepared for disappointment because this guy has really been taking his time and i thought maybe he wasn't actually interested #and i just had to make peace with it and be okay with it #AND THEN #he showed up at church today and sat with me and was so attentive and kind and engaged #and he came to lunch with me and my family after lunch and just. fits so well with us all it's unreal #and then we were leaving and he sort of pulled my dad to the side and talked to him for a minute in the parking lot #TURNS OUT he was asking my dad for his permission to ask me for a date!!!#never in my life have i known a guy who was enough of a humble gentleman to ask my dad for permission before asking me for a date #so yeah he asked for my number and texted me as soon as he got home to ask if we could do dinner next sunday #and that's after a church event that he's also coming to #AND I JUST #want to scream from the rooftops #just a few months ago it was the end of the world and (i thought) the beginning of having to accept being single indefinitely #and God has been so good and so near to me through it all #and he did NOT have to give me this special gift. he just did it and i JHSDUAKBDQWHDIEWYIFLGLHABD #so anyway. thank you guys for praying and being so kind with my nonsensical posts #i love you all so much #jane talks

4. What sections of a bookstore do you browse?

I am a bargain bookhunter first and foremost, so I gravitate towards the clearance / discount sections! in terms of genre, I usually look at classics, children's, and general fiction for authors and genres I like.

8. What is the first book you remember reading yourself?

I had a 1970s book called The Magic of Words that was published by Childcraft Annual. I remember paging through that on my own from the time I was old enough to remember anything. I also had a book of fairytales and a book of virtues / fables that I was obsessed with!

the problem with movie remakes is that they always remake something that was already good, meaning at worst you ruin it and at best your remake is largely redundant. to make a truly good remake you need to start with source material that is absolute dogwater. ignore the pull of nostalgia. redeem the sins of moviemaking past.

been thinking a lot about Harry Truman and the fact that he’s depicted as a good man despite all the awful stuff that happens on his watch. and I’ve concluded that he IS in fact a good man because I think what constitutes a good person (in very shallow non-theological terms) is that they’re genuinely doing their best to do what’s right based on the information they have. and even though the town literally falls apart under Harry’s watch, there are very few moments where I think he makes a conscious choice that isn’t the right one. that doesn’t make him a good sheriff or a dependable leader, but I do think he tried his best to keep order in Twin Peaks as he thought it was

and I think it’s this exact thing that makes Harry’s character serve the show so well! he represents the kind of sheriff we’d expect a small town like Twin Peaks to have: laid-back, friends with everyone, mostly deals with small crimes and peacekeeping. but the fact that Harry is thrown out of his element SO quickly and that the town requires a lawman like Cooper speaks volumes about how quickly the town changes after the murder of Laura Palmer. the dam bursts, evil floods in, and Harry, who has inadvertently allowed things to build momentum and strength under his watch, doesn’t have a chance against it. he thought he was keeping things under control by putting out little campfires, but he missed the bonfire roaring behind his back. and is that his fault? not completely. he's just one man

#i see some discourse about him sometimes and i definitely get it. a lot of what happens can be pinned on him because he is in authority #and there are certainly some choices he makes that make me go “harry WHAT”#and the fact that he's such a loyal friend and lover and big brother type figure to the town doesn't erase the poor decisions he makes #which sometimes do end in people being struck by tragedy #but again! he's not a bad character for that. he's a sometimes uninformed but always well intentioned character #who is blinded by his weaknesses exactly like every other person in the town #but anyway. i love harry a lot and wrote a teeny tiny manifesto on him for that reason #there's something so earnest and good and sincere and open-hearted about him #he's like the donna to cooper's laura in some ways. at least the donna laura thought she knew #anyway #jane talks #twin peaks #harry truman
