scintillating ✨ would love a book rec! :)
what an awesome word ✨✨ I'm going to recommend either The Little Prince (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) or Burn (Ted Dekker). The Little Prince is a novella designed to be read by adults or children, and it's just SO full of beautiful moments, sparkling wit, and themes about asteroids and stars and the heavens. Burn is a Christian suspense thriller that sort of revolves around the theme of fire and sparks, and the big plot twist is weird but explosive :D
top things the Lord has been teaching me recently:
I do not need to pray God’s will into existence; I just need to pray that I would be aligned with it.
genuine self-examination requires humility, honesty, and an understanding of both God’s grace and His standard of perfection.
my job day to day is to demonstrate the character of Christ, which involves studying it in His Word and imitating it.
I will never be perfect or close to it, but I need to be very watchful and willing to change the flaws God makes me aware of.
with all the things God has forgiven me for, I have absolutely no excuse for holding grudges against anyone else.
there’s nothing I or anyone else can do to stop God’s perfect plan from happening, but I still need to seek His will in doing what’s right.
anything I’m not willing to trustingly place in God’s hands is an idol that I’m trying to maintain control over.
God is not waiting for an opportunity to punish me for the things I do wrong; He’s waiting for the chance to reconcile with me when I repent.
I don’t need to punish myself or wait a certain amount of time before I repent and reconcile with God after I make mistakes; He’s ready and waiting for me whenever I come to Him.
there’s nothing I need to do to re-earn God’s love and grace after I sin because I didn’t do anything to earn it in the first place.
the good things I do for God are not requirements for His love, but extensions and expressions of it.
everything I do for God’s glory on earth will have an eternal significance.
every good thing that I long for right now will one day be fulfilled when I’m in His eternal presence.
living in a close relationship with God and in accordance with His will is so much sweeter and more fulfilling than anything I might seek instead.
send me a word or an emoji and I'll give you a book rec :D
Oh, right. The poison-- The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen specially to kill Kuzco, Kuzco's poison. That poison?

the writers of Bringing Up Baby were really like "so there's this *flips coin* absent-minded paleontologist who is *draws a straw* obsessed with a specific dinosaur bone and who *spins a wheel* meets a crazy heiress who *rolls dice* is trying to transport a leopard to New England but then he ends up *throws dart* posing as a Brazilian hunter who's having a nervous breakdown and *picks a card from a hat* gets thrown in jail for tampering with a circus truck"
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (2011)
You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
Kill the censor in your head.
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi dir. Richard Marquand | 1983
me: to really understand the tragedy Maximus bears throughout Gladiator, we have to take into account the fact that his entire worldview is based on the idea that Marcus Aurelius was a good man and that everything Maximus had done up until that point was in the service of an empire whose values he could trust and support. I would even argue that, excluding the loss of his wife and son, the greatest loss Maximus has to grapple with is the loss of his unswerving belief in the goodness of Rome. once he sees its corruption and becomes its victim, he has to reevaluate everything he's ever done and believed in, which affects not only his desire to free Rome from tyranny but also—
the burglar who broke into my house: his guilt about his role in the fate of Rome and his service to a man who was indirectly the cause of all this corruption?
me: exactly. now,

adulthood notes:
The Rodeo Rule: you only have to do it for the first time once.
The Rohan Rule: if you are at a social function full of new people and you want to be liked, find someone doing important work like setup or food prep and offer to help.
The Tutorial Mode Rule: to navigate an unfamiliar situation where you fear you will mess up an interaction, preface the interaction by mentioning that you've never done this before, and let them know if you have a specific concern or question.
The Rocket Science Rule: most new things you want to try seem very complicated but are simple when taken step by step.
The [X] Will Remember That Rule: if you need to make small talk with the same person on a regular basis, try to save one fact or current event in their life from a given conversation and bring it up next time you talk.
The Cool Binder Rule: by wearing clothes and accessories that are to your taste instead of trying to blend in, people will be more likely to compliment you and show interest in you as a person.
