#vertigo isn't just hitchock's best movie but one of the best movies ever made. like in general #shadow of a doubt is lesser known but absolutely one of hitchcock's most brilliant and unsettling movies with fantastic performances #rear window is pure classic cinema. it's what movies were made for #north by northwest is basically a flawless film. not quite on the level of the first three imo but i'm blown away by it every time i see it #notorious is a personal favorite because i think ingrid bergman's performance is one of the finest i've ever seen #but rebecca is pretty much on the same level with notorious to me. it's flawless except for a few minor missteps before the final climax #dial m for murder is understated but remarkably well shot and well written. i don't like most of the characters but the inspector is iconic #the man who knew too much (the remake) is weird and doesn't always land for me. however there are several scenes burned into my brain #spellbound suffers because it's heavy use of psychoanalysis is outdated. lots of breathless individual moments and motifs though #the birds is amazing in terms of suspense and shock factor (and is truly scary). the human drama is stupid but does have some deeper themes #to catch a thief is very fun and colorful but does nothing for me thematically. it's like hitchcock decided to make a riviera commercial #there's things i appreciate about the paradine case but i'm not a huge fan of the writing. it just bores me idk #suspicion has some great scenes and excellent suspense but an absolutely garbage ending. i've only seen it once #anyway. would love to discuss this in depth #and i will at some point #jane talks #lists #movies #alfred hitchcock

i feel very stongly that elizabeth 100% would have sworn darcy to eternal secrecy about the fact that he had already proposed once unsuccessfully when she accepted, solely bc you just KNOW mr collins' smug ass would be like, "oh ho ho! huh! so apparently it IS the usual with young ladies to reject the addresses of the man whom they secretly mean to accept when he applies for their favor! hm! interesting!" and then she would be honor-bound to leap over lady catherine's dining table and strangle him

#this is actually a great point #good thing lady catherine would rather be boiled alive than mention darcy’s first proposal to elizabeth because otherwise she’d spill #the beans to collins in a heartbeat just to commiserate with someone who is duty bound to agree with her #though now that i think of it i’m not sure lady catherine ever actually knew about the first proposal?#she’s upset because of a possible new engagement #i’m assuming darcy would also rather die than let anyone know about the disastrous first proposal #so maybe i’m just overthinking this #anyway yeah. elizabeth DEFINITELY doesn’t need collins’ input on this one. or anything else #funny #pride and prejudice
