I may be a few days late with our whiskey of the week, but don't imagine I haven't been drinking this regularly. The pictures in the background were taken at what I guess is Oak Street Beach, although we were pretty close to the underground walkway at the end of Division. There were several cyclists going by, and since I'm proposing to @morganstell , one of them yelled, "say yes!" That was nice of her and Morgan listened to the cyclist. Since that time we have been married for over four years and added a new love of our lives in addition to each other! @fiverberry loves to pose for pictures and is a great smiler! I let the girls hold up our favorite whiskey for the week. Honestly, this is the best whiskey I have had this year, and maybe in a few years. It is nice to try something that simply stands out. @kovaldistillery Four Grain is smooth and delicious. I have to think what grain is sticking out the most and I feel that is is so well rounded that I don't have the pallet to address it. I just know what is unique and tastes perfected. This is it. A Chicago distillery...and when I was trying to decide between the two bottles in my favourite liquor store I shot out an email to Koval to ask their recommendation based on the stated barrel number. The distiller and VP emailed me back within the day to give his recommendation. Props to you Mark and the Koval family. I was really impressed by the promptness and willingness to respond...but most impressed by this delightful whiskey you all made! Did I mention they use organic grains and have many sustainable practices!? This is rare, almost unheard of, concerning distilleries, so that is a big win in my family's book. #ourgingerlife Whiskey of the Week #5 comes with a couple friends since it's good to have friends on Christmas. My friends tonight can be found in the Polaroids. My daughter is standing herself on the Christmas tree in the Polaroid out front....in addition she is standing herself up on everything. She should be driving a vehicle in a few weeks at the rate she is going. My wife is all over the place up top. And we're all friends with the Wellers. From left to right the take a hike concerning price, ABV, and rarity. I'll probably never find another bottle of William Larue Weller, but I will milk this one for all it is worth. Weller is the "original wheated bourbon" which doesn't mean it is mostly made with wheat. A bourbon has to have at least 51% of the mash bill made from corn...but the secondary isn't rye or barley, but wheat. Get it? Even if you don't, there they are! The bunny in the background is because we love them and our kid is named after one! Fiver from Watership Down...which is better than any these whiskeys put together! Read it! Oh and the red and green bottles of Weller are perfect for this holiday. This year's Christmas tree is by far our favorite. We saw the ladder idea somewhere and we have held onto this death trap of a ladder since we began our little journey together on Church Street. I have had many terror filled moments on this wobbly ladder just because it was our only option. Who knew it would make such a sweet tree! And what fun to have a sunny little bunny crawling around everywhere and ripping off the ornaments. What a brilliant 2017 it has been. I love my girls @morganstell and @fiverberry . Bourbon...what a wonderful thing. This bottle of Blanton's has become somewhat rare even though it isn't one of those crazy expensive bourbons that people will kill for. A guy in one of the local liquor stores I frequent was inquiring about a bottle and the staff membered answered, "we don't have it. We can't keep it on the shelf." Disappointed, the fella started looking elsewhere in the store. I went up to him and told him where I knew he could find a bottle. His smile made my day. I hope he went and bought the bottle. This stuff is good. $60 or $70 bucks. The smell is out of this world. Blanton's gets created in Kentucky, where my favorite author is from...Wendell Berry. This Polaroid made me think of Kentucky, hay all wrapped up for the cows. Farm country. Grain country. Corn mash at 51% at least is what makes a whiskey a bourbon. Whiskey is what makes my wife and I smile....but nothing like this little photo bomber.
